Mike Matheson is a terrible roster fit in NJ. He won’t sniff 60 points without time on the power play, which he won’t get in New Jersey. Not a chance that trade happens.

Matheson and Luke Hughes do the same things. They play the same role. What they need is a defensive LD

He was literally playing against the top players every night, he had the 3rd highest TOI and the NHL last season only behind john Carlsson who has a cap hit of 8M and drew doughty who has a cap hit of 11m

Life must be tough in MTL if your best dman for every situation is michael matheson

Being your best defenseman doesn't mean he's a top pair defenseman on every team, or even most teams. He's an average 2nd pair guy on a playoff team, you guys just don't have anything better so he plays the most minutes for you.
