Dreaming Big
The only way this works is if Matheson goes the other way so that Guhle can go back to the left side. Guhle and Hronek would be nice. Although I don’t know if the Canucks would do this as it weakens their first pair…

Habs trade up to take Lindstrom
I don’t see a scenario where three forwards go in the top 4 picks. The Habs will be able to pick a great forward prospect at 5 without making a move.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>aedoran</b></div><div>Not really just a Habs fan that wants Demidov.</div></div>
I am a Habs, but I’m also a bit fan of hockey and this is simply how I think it will go down. I think Buium is a transcendant talent who is the second best player in the draft. I don’t think Korchinski is a true number 1. Buium is a high ceiling high floor and I think he’s going top 4. I’m not even sure the habs would take Demidov over Catton…
So it’s not me wanting something.
It’s not our first interaction on this platform and it’s not the first time you don’t bring anything interesting to the table. All the best and have great weekend!

only realistic Zegras trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GiggywithGibby</b></div><div>There's two trade comparables from this season that show the above offer is crap, since all firsts are late (Calgary's pick is protected and will become Florida's 1st) which is not where you get impact players, it's where you reliably get bottom 6 players, which we have plenty of, and there a small chance you get something better, but there's a bigger chance of a bust.
Gauthier and Mittlestadt trades are the comparables. Reinbacher and the 25 2nd is the equivalent trade.</div></div>
For the record, the Habs (and this is well publicized) turned down Gauthier for Reinbacher straight up at last year’s draft. So I don’t know if that works. Maybe Hughes is over evaluating Reinbacher, but I wouldn’t trade a potential 1st pair right D for Zegras.

Only concern is the off ice stuff with Mailloux, and that's not just a minor point.</div></div>
He’s apparently cleaned all of that up, had several meetings with Bettman. According to the Habs brass, he’s been an example for younger players coming into Dev camp. Sometimes a person needs to hit rock bottom.

Mailloux is a full time Dman in Anaheim + PP2 in the upcoming season. The CGY pick is most likely top 12 (I would add protection), they are going for Hagens next year. This is a more than fair trade.

Habs Off-season 2425
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>wojme</b></div><div>Who said Byram gets 8 mil? Who is the fourth dman? Sabres don't need another lefty. They already have Ryan Johnson to step up if one of the dmen from last season aren't on the team anymore. Your trade makes no sense for buffalo. Delaying the first round pick makes it worse since you have the protection on it. Just because we can trade 11oa doesn't mean we're going to give it away for players we don't need and futures.</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>sabres89</b></div><div>I love the logic. Here's a crappy left shot d, that we don't need, but he'd be super valuable to you, despite the fact that the Sabres already have too many left shot d as it is. And apparently the Sabres need to give the pick away so that adams doesn't draft another undersized forward. There's no other alternatives. Like drafting something that isn't an undersized forward or a smooth skating defenseman. Nobody is buying whatever you are selling.</div></div>
I love the passion, but nobody is asking you to give it away.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>wojme</b></div><div>At minimum, 2 rfas on defense. 11oa this year is better than a future 9oa.</div></div>
You will need to re-sign Bowen Byram at some point. That’s 4 d-man in the 8m range. Harris, is a controllable asset who plays very good hockey for a 3rd pair D. But by all means draft another forward to add to the collection while the rest of the league waits to reap what you sow. All of the these guys are going to go to the market at the same time. Mittlestadt is just the beginning.
The other thing is this isn’t the strongest of drafts so if we’re merely swapping 1sts, it’s still beneficial for Buffalo.

On the Harris point, you have a few expiring contracts on defence. On the pick, the Sabres pick is 11th.

I don’t think the Flames do this. But if they do, I think the Habs would be smart to pick Silayev/Buium/Dickinson with their first pick if Demidov is already gone and Iginla with the second. I don’t know if Guhle will be the a true 1 dman.

Struble is now. He’s a very mobile and physical D-man built for the playoffs. Plus, his contact situation would be manageable for the next 5-7 years.

You’re going to pay much more next March for a 3rd pair Dman. The point is that you don’t have any picks this year or next, we’d be sending you picks for this year so that you can make other moves. The 3rd in 2026 you get get back in the meantime via another move.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Billy316</b></div><div>You dont need any D but thats another conversation
What i wanted to point out is Matheson-Guhle is our top pair most of the year
Savard went out Months blocking 3 shots in a row and gave Guhle basically the first half of the year there
Matheson doesnt get to 60 points IMO if any other Dman in our system players Mathesons RD.
We've seen it the last 2 years that Matheson doesnt play well with others a lot of the time.
He needs a guy capable of handling a lot of 2v1 and 3v1 when he turns over the puck or blows entries.
Guhle for that reason will be here long after Mathesons Traded
Guhle is everything we need him to be at such an early age where he's just Reacting .
Give him space to lead with Matheson and Savard gone , it'll be like with Suter and Weber left NSH leading to the rise of Josi, Ellis and Ekholm</div></div>
I don’t disagree, I see him as chip to get a very good top 6 forward (which we may not have in the system). I like your point even and appreciate how well he performed on the right side.
If we draft someone like Sam Dickinson this year, we may have a true number 1 LHD.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Billy316</b></div><div>O thank god someone to make people realize MTL and OTT arent trade partners on something like this
We picked over Chychrun in the draft after BUF chose Alex Nylander outta no where over Sergachev , he fell into MTL's laps but he wasnt our guy
Chychrun speaks some French , had 3 interviews and both sides were acting like this was basically a done deal.
After MTL skipped him triggering a free fall outside the top 10 for him he came up in tears acting like a jaded ex
TBH i get he wanted to play for MTL but crying because MTL picked Sergachev over you is a bit telling of his Character and just look at the difference in their careers despite being marketed as equals
MTL trade for a DMAN is like OTT trading for a top line Center, it undermines your entire systems set up</div></div>
I completely disagree with that last part. We have depth and a few redundant pieces, but the Canadiens don’t have a top pairing prospect outside of Reinbacher. And if the Senators are spoiled with top line centres than how are they not in the playoffs?!?!?
