Brady moved and huge 3 team trade
1. That is at minimum the kind of return needed to trade Brady - I'm not sure it's enough. And honestly -
2. just keep Trouba to be RD and play rough, don't trade him with retention. Play either JBD or Brannstrom in the other RD slot. I'm not convinced on Chatfield, and really don't like Carrier at that cap number.
3. The goalie thing is wishful thinking. I think they're painted into a corner by Dorion here - they can't trade Korpisalo after that season. Forsberg doesn't have any positive value at that contract number, and I haven't heard any reports that he's not going to be able to play. I don't think you can LTIR him. I think if you trade Trouba it's to keep Ullmark - though having 7th and 10th picks in this draft would be nice. I'm guessing you're doing the 3-way assuming that Ullmark has Ottawa on his no-trade list and won't waive?

guerin offseason take II
Totally separate from the previous Chychrun trade and any comparable trades:
1. Chychrun has value because of low cap hit. Sens could make it lower. Retention could make it really valuable.
2. Healy has no value. NCAA prospects are valueless if they've played 2 seasons and not signed. The chance of them not signing to manipulate where they go is too high, unless you know that you're the team they want to play for. (See Fox, Adam)

Genuinely think there aren’t pieces in place to prop the offence up without Brady. They’d have to have a major fa addition lined up to make it work but if they figured something out then I’d be 100% behind it. Hard to imagine a better player being returned on a swap.</div></div>
McAvoy is it. No way the Bruins do it. The Sens should jump at it though. Any Sens fan that doesn't hasn't watched Boston enough.

Yea, the reporter who posted that is not a great source now, his "in" was with the old owner.
Although even then he might have posted something like this in order to lower the expectations of Ottawa fans so they'd be happier with how Dorion got ripped off later.

I believe Matthew only had 1 year and forced a trade but this value is really close here for the trade.
NOT EVEN CLOSE
Jonathan Huberdeau · $5,900,000
MacKenzie Weegar · $3,250,000
Cole Schwindt · $0 (AHL/JR)
2025 1st round pick (FLA) [Conditional]*</div></div>
But everyone says that trade was a loss for Calgary, not what Ottawa should aspire to.
Matthew was a pending UFA. Brady is signed for 4 more years. No way Calgary makes that trade other than Matthew was not willing to sign an extension.

Given how well Pinto played and how well Grieg did playing C this past season, I don't see giving up the 25th pick to move from 7 to 5.
The whole reason you want your team to do that is that there isn't a big difference in players and any of a bunch of players could go in that range.

No reason for the Sens to do that even assuming you've gotten the NJD pick. And I doubt you get those picks for taking on those players.

I think Batherson could be had, and that Ullmark and a 2nd isn't that far off. And Batherson's a similar sort of player to DeBrusk.

I would target a top-of-the league penalty killing D. You can't replace Carlo for that money, I think he's worth more than they would be able to get.
DeMelo is at best 85% of Carlo in both play and size, AND 4 years older, and you're signing him for more money to fill that spot. And I love Dylan DeMelo - but he's a poor man's Brandon Carlo that's going to cost more than the real deal.

Oooh.... that would be really tempting for the Sens. They have Pinto and Greig who have both filled in at 2C decently, and Hayton is interesting.
I get why Utah would want Norris too - he was penciled in at 1C for that whole contract until he got hurt, Stuzle moved to C and thrived.

Rosen and 11OA isn’t enough for Carlo in your mind? Interesting</div></div>
Nope. A draft pick and an undersized winger who hasn't scored an NHL goal for the best penalty killing D around locked into a killer contract? I wouldn't make that move.
I can see that the "value" is there in that - but why would you ever move on from Carlo at $4.1M? It's less than 30% that a player picked at 11 will ever be as good as Carlo, and I don't think Rosen's ceiling is as valuable as Carlo is, let alone his current value as an undersized 20 goal AHL player.

Yea, I don't mind this. I'm not sure Bolduc is really a target for them, probably ends up being something else, but not a bad package.
Pageau probably isn't worth his contract right now - but between nostalgia and him actually being the veteran who knows how to win when you don't on paper and is an experienced center, maybe more value to the Sens than anyone else.

Marner ON THAT CONTRACT isn't worth anywhere close to that. If they were able to negotiate an extension at $8M and get Toronto to retain $5M, and take out the 2025 1st, maybe. at$10.9M and needing a new contract? Remember that the Sens fired Pierre Dorion.
Batherson is the opposite. Signed for 3more years at $4.9M - AAV <strong>under</strong> his production.
Reilly ON THAT CONTRACT doesn't have that kind of positive value. He's a 30yo player signed for <strong>6 MORE YEARS</strong>. Even if the Sens wanted to move on from Chabot, I don't think they're giving up multiple firsts to bring back older players signed longer. Few offensive D are as productive at 36 as at 30.

Playoffs
That's interesting for Ullmark. On one hand it's a lot for one year of Ullmark. On the other hand, while I like Jarventie, it's not THAT much for Ullmark to solve the goalie problem since Craig Anderson left... It really depends on whether they're able to re-sign him for a similar number. Which will be hard when you're paying Korpisalo $4M.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Windjammer</b></div><div>The Jets don't have the cap space or an extra roster spot to waste on Hamonic.</div></div>
Yea, I think they either have to buy him out or ride out the year with him on the roster. As long as they aren't up against the cap this year having him on the roster is tempting - get it over with this year, and there's the potential that he could be needed with some injuries.

Singing the Blues
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>AC14</b></div><div>Good luck. There aren’t 5 RD in free agency who can successfully handle 20 minutes a night. I also don’t see any big ticket free agents at a premium position opting to go to Ottawa at the moment either given how poor Ottawa has been for a long while now.
I’m not saying you guys should move your 1st. But I also don’t see things turning around in the near future without moving it. There is no defensive structure in place anywhere on the roster, and it would take a miracle for an 18 year old defenseman to change that in the next 3-5 years.</div></div>
I'm not defending the "5 better RD in free agency" comment - but trading that pick like that is goofy.
Trading a top 10 pick for the ages 31-36 seasons of a pretty-good-but-not-great D is not the way to be long-term successful either. If you were trading for prime Chara, yea, you can make the case.
