Just Thinking it Easy
Ana doesn’t want either of those players. Lilj doesn’t fit their need for a big defensive RD at all, and Robo doesn’t meet the height requirement. We’ll keep Pastujov and the 3rd for sure

There’s a lot wrong here tbh
1. Ducks don’t do the Vatrano trade. They could probably beat that at the deadline retained
2. No to Duclair
3. Missing a
4 Missing top 4 RD and top 6 RW additions
5. Missing a number of RFA resignings
6. Helleson isn’t NHL ready. Luneau should start in the AHL but Verbeek does love him so maybe he won’t
7. I expect Gauthier at LW not C

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>The_Rocket</b></div><div>129 forwards scored 30 or more 5v5 points last season, or about 4 per team. that means that, one average, ily mikheyev would have been about 4th or 5th on a team in 5v5 scoring in the nhl. doesnt seem like "outright poor" 2nd line production for a player not on PP1.
as for special teams, i will concede mikheyev is not a great power play option. but on the pk, he was one of vancouvers best shot suppressors and goal suppressors amongst all their forwards who averaged at least 45 seconds a game short handed. yeah, hes probably a 2nd unit pk guy, but still he offers a lot of utility there. pk is an asset, not a detriment for him
lack of power play production is a fair point, and no doubt the reason why i think the canucks should trade him. however, i think teams who are willing to take on a cap dump (anaheim, chicago, san jose, etc.) arent vewry concerned about playoff production.
finally, why is mikheyev a 1st round pick to dump, but no player with a similar contract to his as ever cost a 1st rounder to dump before? expecially when considering, once again, that mikheyev is actually a good thrid line player and probable top 6 on anaheim</div></div>
We’re really going in circles here. We can agree to disagree. Nobody in ANA wants Mik, no matter how hard you try to talk him up, just like nobody in VAN wants him.
You offered a 2nd to dump him, and not a single ANA fan is interested. Thats just the reality, no matter how many niche stats you share. We’ve seen him play, we can read stats for ourselves. We don’t want him, and a late 2nd in ‘25 hasn’t changed anyone’s mind. I wish you guys well, and recommend SJ or CHI instead 🤷♂️

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>The_Rocket</b></div><div>only mctavish (12) and vtrano (17) had more 5v5 goals than mikheyev (11) this season. mikheyev would actually be a boost to anaheims 5v5 play considering he is a high end defensive player who scores and shoots better than most of the ducks at even strength.
that calculator on puckpedia assumes the goal of the receiving team is simply to gain the pick and the player coming back as 0 value to them. infact, it actually assumes that the cap hit being acquired is retain salary as a 3rd party vroker, not taking on a useful player. again, based on mikheyevs play, its hard to argue he would be anything other than a top 6 calibre player on the ducks this coming season
i agree canucks will need to pay to unload him, but the idea it would cost a 1st seems kind of ridiculous. recently, we have seen multi year cap dumps of players like taylor hall for no cost (2x6 million) nikita Zaitsev for a 2nd and a 4th (2 x 4.5m), matt murray for a 3rd and a 7th (4.6875 x 2), shayne ghostibere for a 2nd and a 7th (2x4.5 million), and peter mrazak which as a 1st and 2nd round swap - 13 spots down in the draft (3.8 x 2 million).
why would mikheyev cost more than any of these</div></div>
I’m not sure you read my reply. I stated literally everything you said in the 2nd paragraph outside of your last sentence, which frankly is pretty ridiculous.
Our top 6 for next season is likely: Leo, McT, Zegras, Gauthier, Terry, and a Vatrano ($3.6M). I don’t think anyone who watches hockey needs to look at a stat sheet to pretend that Mikheyev doesn’t come close to any of those players in value, skill, etc.
A 30 pt season (5v5 or not) is ‘meh’ production for a 3rd liner, and outright poor production for a 2nd liner. Thats just a fact. Making that worse is is complete lack of contribution to special teams (ineffective on the PK, can’t earn power play time) and worst of all doesn’t show up to big games (0 points in 11 playoff games this year, 11 in 82 in his career). He’s being dumped in literally every single VAN ACGM for a reason.
Again, we can’t pretend his value is a complete dump. But he’s worth half his current contract. Even half his contract retained for 2 seasons is worth pick #26 overall. If you disagree, that’s awesome. You guys just don’t have a buyer in ANA 🤷♂️

Agree with Landro. I think Canes and Ducks fans agree that while Necas is a totally good player, he’s likely not going to live up to the contract he’s about to get

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>The_Rocket</b></div><div>maybe, if the player being dumped is literally unplayable. mikheyev is still a serviceable middle 6 forward</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GiggywithGibby</b></div><div>He's barely putting up 3rd line production but is being paid like a 2nd line player, I wouldn't call 30 points serviceable. If he was on the last year of his deal then a 2nd would do, but he's not.</div></div>
Puckpedia suggests $4.75Mx2 of salary retention is worth pick #21. I’d agree Mik brings <em>some</em> inherent value. But I think we can all agree it’s nowhere near enough to go from pick 21 to ~55 a year from now. Have to agree this isn’t close to enough.
That said, if ANA drafts Demidov and/or doesn’t land a big RW UFA, I could see Mik being worth consideration if the value is improved. Maybe like the ‘25 1st offset by a ~3rd round pick from ANA

These trades really make it clear you’re not an ANA fan (no offense, if anything you’re lucky in that regard 😅).
1. There’s no way we’re taking the Campbell contract
2. We have no use for Broberg with an already too-deep LD pipeline
3. Gibby vetos any trade to CAN
4. We don’t want Mikheyev
5. We’re happy to keep Clang
6. There’s no top line RW addition like Verbeek noted we need
7. Walker is not the RD ANA will target. We need a Gudas type to pair with one of Mintyukov or Zellweger who’s big and d-minded. Not an undersized mobile type that won’t complement their game at all
8. This one’s somewhat debatable, but Lindstrom played great 3rd pair D for us. We should be bringing him back

No to Necas for Zegras
No to Gibby at $3.2M retained period, let alone for that return, and he vetoes a trade to Toronto anyways

McT for Marner ain’t it, that’s a pipe dream. No single member of our core is worth moving for Marner simply because of the $12M contract he wants. McT is the second highest name on that list behind only Leo
But none of that matters because Marner isnt going to waive his NMC for ANA (and likely not for anywhere at all). Odds are incredibly high you guys either buck up to extend him, or he walks in free agency like his agent is pushing for
