Seattle's not moving Bjorkstrand as long as he's on the current contract.

Seattle
Seattle's real compete window is about 2 years away so trading for a slightly older injury prone prospect doesn't do them much.

Can't see SEA moving on from Evans. He is by far the best defensive prospect on the team. I think he has too much upside for SEA to move on from him, especially when he is likely to make the team full-time next year.

Saw this trade on a ACGM
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>shucket</b></div><div>This is equivalent to the 1st round pick they’ll get when they trade him at the deadline next year. Liljegren takes his spot and is younger which Seattle needs and adds a potential top 6 guy in Robertson with 30 goal potential. Think this is more than fair
I think they take it and run tbh</div></div>
No not really. This is a really optimistic evaluation of both of these players and assumes that everything goes perfectly for them. If this was their reality, then it would make no sense for TOR to trade either of them unless you consider them cap casualties, which at this point in their careers they really aren't.
To add onto what <a href="/users/KrakenTheCode" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">@KrakenTheCode</a> has already said, SEA is in no means struggling with forwards with a wealth of forward prospects coming up in the next 1-2 years (e.g. Firkus, Nyman, Sale, and Goyette all are projected top 6). Where SEA is weak right now is on RD and while Liljeren would have a role, it isn't a top pair role. In order for SEA to consider giving up Larsson not only would SEA need a centerpiece assest coming back (e.g. TOR 2024 1st), but SEA would have to go out and spend the cap to land someone like Pesce or Montour before SEA even considers the deal

Run it Back
For SEA it would have to at a minimum be Liljeren and the 2025 1st. SEA doesn't really have a huge need for Robertson with so many forward prospects being 1-2 years away, and would rather just wait for them to come up.
Additionally without Larsson, SEA has to sign 1 other RD's which needs to be good enough for the top pair, as Liljeren hasn't proved that he can and SEA doesn't have any RD's they can call up either consider the RD pool is that limited. Because of that I wouldn't really consider this deal unless SEA could land someone like Pesce or Montour. If SEA lands one of them, then I'd be open to the deal (hence the 2025 pick instead)

Marner to Washington State
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>KrakenTheCode</b></div><div>I see you have done your homework. Kudos on that and on making a trade idea that value wise I think is pretty even and not horribly lopsided in either direction (like so many on here are). Ultimately whether such a deal goes through would depend on Marner and his NMC, and whether Seattle would be comfortable making a move like this for a player that initially at least wouldn't be guaranteed to stay past a year. The Kraken's prospect pool could also use that top-pairing-ceiling defenseman, and your evaluation of Nyman is spot on; he's probably their best prospect behind Wright at this point. So on the Kraken's end it comes down to a question of how they want to build their roster; keep their prospect pool intact and growing and pursue avenues to add scoring that don't involve depleting their roster and farm too significantly, or aggressively pursue a blockbuster deal for a higher-wattage star like Marner. Time will tell which path they choose.</div></div>
🎯
At this point I'm not even sure if a Marner trade will actually materialize. Wanted to explore a different avenue instead of the same old ACGM crap. If / when Seattle walks away with one of this drafts top defenseman, they are going to be a genuine contender for so many years. Curious to see what the Kraken do this offseason, I'm a very big fan of Bylsma and his systems. Coachella was such a great team under his leadership. Plus, Seattle's roster construction just makes them a super fun team to watch regardless.
Big fan of your analysis on the situation, thanks for discussing!

Seattle isn't trading their 1.2M starter for depth players and Zadorov already turned that contract down from Vancouver. You are no where close on signing Lindholm lol

i think you're massively overrating the value of your depth players. No one is going to give up a 2nd for the kind of roster filler pieces they can sign for free (at a smaller cap hit, in most cases) after Jul 1st.

No one has explained why Marner waives to go to Seattle in his contract year. No reason for Seattle to trade for one year of Marner either.
Another post where the author can't think of a team on M NTC trade list that wants his cap.

That's of little incentive for Seattle to trade you Larsson. If he's available at any point, the return will be higher, especially at the deadline.

Middle of the Pack
If that's all the return is for Burakovsky, I think Seattle keeps him and sees if he bounces back this year. I get the premise is to have cap room for Reinhart (and Manson??) and there are only so many top-6/9 wingers spots available, but I also don't think Reinhart is too likely. See him taking less for a stay in Florida. Manson for a 2nd may be possible, but don't see it for Seattle. He's more of what they already have on the back end and unless they decide (or have an idea) that Larsson won't be back after this season, not sure he's what Seattle should pursue at the cost of a 2nd.

re-vamping the roster
SEA declines. SEA isn't going to bail TOR out of bad contracts. I'd be open to taking Robertson as I think he has some offensive upside, which SEA could really use, but SEA has no reason to take on the rest of those contracts as is, when they can just resign some of their UFA's or bring up some of their prospects for cheaper.

What marner to Seattle looks like
Leafs trade their superstar winger just to get a temporary RHD solution and I guess a long-term 2C solution (although Tavares is still fine at C). The only positive is that they are retaining a top 6 F while getting a top 4 RD.
Seattle gets an amazing playmaker but they trade away their best goal-scorer (and top RD). What's the point of them getting Marner?
Sub-optimal trade for both sides.

Marner to Kraken
SEA declines. This is far too much to give up for one person, even someone at the quality of Marner. SEA is asked to give up 8OA, a top-pairing defensive RD, and SEA's top scorer for one winger who comes at a higher cap hit than both of those players and SEA would be on the hook for paying his bonus.
For SEA it doesn't matter about value, to give up this much for one player is poor asset management on SEA's end. Not even to mention there is no guarantee that Marner signs in SEA.
