Spurgeon
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Leafboy101</b></div><div>As a Leafs fan I would love Jared Spurgeon, he’s underrated and can move the puck decently as well….although that contract will age horribly and we are over cap in this scenario, kampf wont be on LTIR so this would be a move only if say Marner or Tavares got moved and I just don’t see it happening unfortunately</div></div>
I just placed Kampf in LTIR because I think his cap is easy to dump, and he's a pretty obvious candidate to be replaced with Minten coming in. I just don't want a bunch of Ducks fans yelling at me in the comments about why they wouldn't give up a 26' 7th for him or something like that. If the cap is what you're worried about in this scenario, I think it's easily solved by trading Lilly and/or signing a cheaper D-man than Tanev. Either way, very doable.
I also don't think the contract will age horribly. Obviously, we'd have to see how the injury would affect his play, but I'm definitely not too worried about his age. Many elite D-men have shown it's possible to stay at that level. It's also only 3 years. Even if he gives us 2 years of elite play, that's a win.

The most likely scenario
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Leafboy101</b></div><div>I wish such was true, I do like him as a shut down guy he hits well and block a ton of shots. Yes there are bad giveaways and he’s not quick or amazing at moving the puck, but look what Justin Holl got last year, team were offering $3M + a year and he ended up getting $3.4M for 3 years. He is far far much better than Holl who can’t do any of the things Edmundson does. So I see him getting a deal like this</div></div>
The concern with Edmundson is his ability to stay healthy. I doubt a team will commit such money on a 3 years term. I would be shock if he gets more than 3 millions a season.

Edmundson won’t be that expensive, probably 2,5 millions would be more than enough especially with a 3 years term

Edmundson contract is way too much, he's awful at moving the puck and ices it like crazy. He's quite slow as well, not sure any money at 3 years makes much sense but some GM will probably throw it at him.

I may be wrong but I don't think Pelley's responsibilities are on the hockey side of things. At any rate, he's probably acutely aware that theyve exhausted all the tinkering options they could. Granted they were, like in half of their other series losses, exactly one shot away from advancing, but it's much harder to sell fans on that now. New HC will likely get a different make up to the team to ensure they hit the ground running.

CBJ say get f***ed.
Seatlle likely says no.
I don't know why Calgary would do that, given it's a win-now move while also shipping out win-now pieces; it only shifts the window later by like 3 years.
Basically same for Philly.
I just can't get over how asinine it is to think full-NMC Marner lands you both 4OA and the 5OA pick from just 3 years ago. Just one of the most utterly stupid things I've seen in a long while.
...I'm going to have to stay off this site for the next week, aren't I? This is all it's going to be.

The Blue Jackets have been being used as clickbait fodder by Canadian sports writers for years now. Boone to Toronto for whatever, 3 OA(Fantilli) to Calgary for Lindholm, KJ+ to Vancouver for Miller, stuff to Montreal for Anderson, 4OA and KJ to Toronto for Marner. Those are just the ones that immediately come to mind. Will Canadian sports fans ever catch on that they're just being pandered to for clicks?

1 and 2 are great value, 3 is making the best of the situation but giving up pieces that you don't need to for Markstrom, and 4 and 5 are fireable offences.
I don't think SEA would be interested, better chance that CBJ does that depending on the new GM's view on KJ and if he's not too excited about whoever is available at #4. The CBJ package is more valuable but the SEA one would probably be better suited for the Leafs in the short-term at the least. Although, they could probably just go out and flip the 4th OV for Andersson, that being said I think Wright would allow them to secure their future 2C, KJ is probably going to be a winger.

What if we kept the core for some reason
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Leafboy101</b></div><div>Maybe, maybe not. It’s hard to say. Matt Roy tends to hit and is a solid puck mover. He’s a good 2nd pair option from the right side. His issues are he tends to give the puck away quite a bit and miss reads forwards attacking the net hard and he can get beat as he’s not a very fast skater and he’s average going backwards. He’s also 29 which I know isn’t old by hockey standards but aside from his last 2 years he’s been injury prone quite a bit. So to me u could very much be right and I’d be interested to see what he gets and how much a team values him. RHD are a premium after all and<strong> I wouldn’t be surprised to see guys get way more than we all think.</strong></div></div>
I know both Orlov and Gavrikov signed short deal terms but I think those deals are a sign that price of UFA defenders is going to go up drastically. Although, even if it doesn't for everyone any top 4 D should be getting above 5M considering the cap is going up and that's what they were already getting. It's been 4 years since Brodie got 5Mx4.

No reason for VG to trade Hill or consider that offer either. Matt Roy will cost more (5M+ easily), there's no way Edmundson would make more than him on the same team. Goaltending isn't a major issue, signing a cheap guy (~2.5M), and then looking to potentially rent Saros or someone else during the season is probably a better idea. The Main FA target should be 1) Montour 2) Pesce 3/4) Lindholm or Roy. Maybe get someone else instead of DeMelo that they don't have to commit term to if they have money left. Re-signing Domi might not be a bad idea either.
The Leafs are probably just better off letting Tavares go after this season or re-signing him to a 1-year deal if they still need a 2C.

Raddysh makes the lineup over Perbix. Can't see the Cirelli trade happening for obvious reasons.

The past seven years have completely warped the expectations of the Leafs players and their fans. It all started by signing Tavares when it was completely unnecessary. We set completely absurd "win-now" expectations and traded first-round picks EVERY season. Imagine we just kept Kadri as our second centre and stopped trading our first-round pick every single season. We would've been in a much better spot by now. What I'm saying is that, unfortunately, that's what we have to do NOW. The past 7 years that we have endured are a result of what happens when a team is IMPATIENT.

Serious conversation time
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MediocrityAccetableInToronto</b></div><div>I disagree about Treliving. It isn't his fault Klignberg was out for the season, he was supposed to be a major asset on the power play. Treliving has only been here one season, deserves some time. Also Cowan as a late 1st rounder looks like a steal as of now. But yes Dubas emptied the draft board for pure rentals and some really atricious trades, although he did have some good ones (Muzzin, Campbell). The Tavares contract was abysmal and sooo unnecessary, that has handcuffed the team financially for years and the contracts of Matthews, Marner and Nylander are a joke, should have been tougher in negotiations. There are stars around the league that have signed for less on their teams for the sake of building team that is capable of getting out of the first round. If I was GM I'd trade Marner and Rielly for draft picks and prospects and go out and try to sign a Skjei, Demelo and Stamkos this offseason. Letting a 50 goal guy and penalty killer in Hyman for 5.5 million go is unforgivable. RIP Amirov but I was hoping they would've drafted Schneider ahead of him defence first right hand shot.</div></div>
So your hoping Marner and Rielly ask for a trade?
