He was signed on April Fools day. I only remember that because I had been talking about Quillan at length leading up to the signing and I thought my buddy was punking me when he told me we got him. It's a shame the Marlies got eliminated so early in the playoffs, I wanted to see how Quilly would play as he got more acclimated to the teams systems and the pace of the league

Not sure about everyone else, but I was so pumped about that signing. Quillan is such a dawg, really like the player he is. Has good bottom 6 upside, I think he's a great candidate for a long term 3C. So tenacious

Stankoven normally tends to squeeze by defenders whereas Stiga doesn't.</div></div>
I agree about him being a top 10 talent. People don't understand how good Stiga is. The Stankoven comp is more to do with his excellent motor and tenacity despite his misleading smaller frame. Doesn't really have a shot like Stankoven does.
Regardless, the team that walks away with Stiga is going to be VERY happy. It's a little scary that his draft team will likely be an already competitive team

Not going to lie, I'm curious to see what it will be like in New Jersey if Keefe gets hired. He's a solid coach, but he leans a lot on low-maintainance 2 way guy. Really likes his defensive specialists. Has a harder time incorporating younger guys into the lineup and struggles hard with less than average skaters. There aren't a lot of David Kampfs or Alex Kerfoots on NJs roster.
I've got a feeling that Haula and Palat are in for good seasons if Keefe gets in. Holtz will not get the playing time he deserves, Clarke will be a scratch, Meier will suffer, and Siegenthaler - Marino is going to get a lot of ice time.
Really curious how his structure will apply to a team that can afford to have a deeper forward group. I think he is going to love that blue line

I think you nailed it with the Sharks pick at #14, I'm a little bit lower on Greentree and would personally take MBN instead but you're right on the money in regards to him being a Grier type of player.
However, if Buium or Yakemchuck is still on the board by pick #11 I see the Sharks pressing HARD to move up. Do you think either Buffalo or Philly would take something like #14 + Guschin or pick #14 + #42?</div></div>
I would imagine Buffalo would like to trade back in this draft. Their defensive group is already loaded, so picking up some extra value to select a forward makes a lot of sense to me.
Buium to San Jose would be such a great fit

Could definitely see Eiserman winding up in Buffalo, that's actually something I heavily debated while writing this up. Yakemchuk just seems like a perfect compliment to their core of guys right now though

One dark horse selection I'd absolutely love to see the Leafs make is Teddy Stiga. He is so tenacious, so relentless, and such a DAWG. He would be Zach Hyman 2.0. He is going to be this drafts Stankoven.

I have no clue what a Marner trade is going to look like. Not really sure what teams are fits. I like the idea of adding another 1st rounder this year, it would be lovely to walk away from this draft having solved our center and defense issues in the long term.
I really like the idea of adding guys like Josh Doan and Jack McBain (among other pieces of course), and it does seem like Utah will want to compete immediately. I don't hate the idea of Doan and pick #6, granted I don't think Arizona would love that. Doan and Dicky for Mitch would be a fine deal. Plus, it would be neat to see Josh join his Dad in Toronto now that his chance to play in AZ is gone

Since we have known that the Leafs will pick at 23, I have come to the conclusion that we <em>need</em> to draft Charlie Elick. Really wanted Hage, but I doubt he'll be available. Elick is a guy who would be a complete game changer for us. Long term, physical 2RD. Clears the net super well and has a good point shot (granted you won't be relying on him for significant offensive output).
Elick is him

I'm glad the Leafs are getting a new voice behind the bench, but I'll miss seeing that livid greyhaired man screaming from the bench. That little video he put together was super well said by him.
How much money you guys want to bet that he'll be the Pens assistant coach next season?

Marner to CBJ
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>LuckyMoneyPuck</b></div><div>this fills all the check boxes of a typical leafs trade.
"Get marner out of here he sucks"... but other teams should pay us an arm and a leg for him. Check.
Here is our garbage players that we don't want, they really aren't NHL caliber, have basically failed from where they were drafted, but you other teams should give us great value for them, because they are leafs and clearly better than anything on your own team because of that.... Check.
The typical leafs "toughness" or "culture" requirement. ... all get signed for their Grit....plays a style that we dearly need..... Check.
bravo, you made a capfriendly approved leafs post.</div></div>
You know why so many Leafs ACGMs are like that? It's because that is Trelivings track record, and he has stated multiple times that he has a similar goal with the Leafs. Nowhere did I say "Marner sucks", in fact he is my favourite player on the Leafs. There is literally zero urgency to move him. We aren't moving Marner for the sake of making a move, if he's getting traded it's because another team is offering something enticing for us. Tavares' deal expires in 1 season, so again, there is NO urgency to move Mitch. I'd be more than happy to keep him.
Also you went on this whole thing about Abruzzese being included (or atleast I assume that what you're on about), but that part of the deal is so minor. He's a fine young winger making league min. Don't like him? Just waive him. Or, better yet, forget he's in the trade because it literally makes no difference.
Keep s***ing on the Leafs, im sure it makes you feel so much better about yourself when you get to tear others down. Trying engaging in a healthy conversation for once in your life instead of being a dickhead.

Marner to CBJ
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dk325</b></div><div>I wish I could say I was surprised by how little Leafs fans are considering the Blue Jackets needs so far this off-season, but I'm really not anymore. This proposal is awful for the Jackets and they would not consider it.</div></div>
I wish I could say I was surprised by how little non-Leafs fans are considering Marners value to a team, but I'm really not anymore.
As someone who enjoys following the Blue Jackets, here is what I assume:
- Defense Group is set for the foreseeable future. Lots of young talented defensemen to go with Veterans that are locked in long term. Seems to be a lot of tension between CBJ and Jiricek, potentially making him a valuable trade asset.
- Goaltending isn't an issue by any means.
- Forward Group is fine, just need to wait for the young guys to come into their own.
How does adding a genuine superstar do anything other than help the Jackets? I feel like I'm not asking a ton considering the level of player you'd be getting in return. The Jackets with Marner are a playoff team and a serious threat. To say that the Jackets wouldn't so much as consider this offer is laughable, ESPECIALLY considering that the BPA at your draft pick will be a defenseman. Thus roster would be infinitely better than anything you could manage to put together without adding Marner:
Laine - Fantilli - Marner
Johnson - Jenner - Gaudreau
Voronkov - Sillinger - Marchenko
4th Liner - Kuraly - Olivier
Werenski - Severson
Provorov - Boqvist
Mateychuk - Gudbranson
Merzlikins
Tarasov
I'm assuming Texier gets dealt, doesn't seem like there's a definitive role for him. Not sure what to think of A. Nylander.
Regardless, Marner and a coach who isn't completely braindead transforms CBJ into a playoff team 🤷♂️

NSH makes sense due to what they have and what we want but man I cant see him wanting to go there either.
The team I honestly see him waiving for is FLA. To join his old Knight line mate Tkachuck but TOR trading with a divisional rival would be dumb even if an Ekblad was coming</div></div>
I didnt hate the idea proposed by Random earlier that suggested an Ekblad and Knight swap for Mitch. Don't love the idea of trading Marner to a divisional rival, but it's not as bit of a deal as most people think.
I personally don't think Marner is going anywhere. They are just going to wait out the JT deal. Book it. I'll believe it when I see it, this team will never trade Mitch Marner (and that is completely fine by me)

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Rajvinder</b></div><div>Just throwing it out there that a few "insiders" I've spoken to have mentioned that they believe Mark Hunter is the leading GM candidate for both Edmonton (Holland is retiring) and Columbus.
Apparently he has recently been telling both teams that Marner would be a part of his strategy and given Marner's NMC that he feels he could get him cheap.
Pretty well known that Hunter put his job on the line to draft Mitch in Toronto and remains really close to Mitch and his family.
One person went as far as to say that the best case for Toronto might be if he goes to Columbus and they draft Sam Dickinson (London Knight) in which case Jirick and/or Mateychuck could become available in a Marner trade.
Also has someone say that they wouldn't be surprised if Hunter and Mitch worked together to hardball the Leafs including forcing Cowan into any Marner deal.</div></div>
I wouldn't be surprised in the slightest to see a Marner for a Jiricek trade materialize. Columbus seems like a hard sell, but if Hunter is there then I could definitely see it. Plus it's a smaller market which is something I'd definitely want if I were put in Mitchs position. Jiricek and Columbus' relationship seems tumultuous, and Jiricek would literally be a perfect addition to the Leafs blueline. CBJ is one of the few teams I think makes genuine sense as a landing spot for Marner. Replacing Jiricek with a more familiar and similarly skilled Sam Dickinson would be very solid for the Jackets. I don't hate the idea whatsoever, just feels like a lot of pieces need to fall into place for it to happen
