Marner
Why do so many Toronto guys keep trying to shoehorn Mitch Marner and his $10.9 million cap hit into cap-stressed rosters like Minnesota ($14.75 million dead cap next season) or Los Angeles ($20.9 million to re-sign Quinton Byfield and fill both goalie positions and eight other roster slots)? This ACGM is the perfect demonstration of why such a move is utterly impractical: an unworkable 20-man roster, a weakened defense, and a hopeless inability to re-sign both Marner and Brock Faber in 2025. Please go play pretend-Marner-is-going-somewhere with teams like Utah and Chicago and Nashville and Columbus.

Leafs - Ducks
I don't think that we have the slightest interest in any of those players or draft picks. (Robertson isn't a second-liner playing on his off-side.) Liljegren might be the closest, but I think Pat Verbeek is seeking a bigger fish. And speaking of Pat Verbeek, having signed Ryan Strome only two summers ago to his current contract, I don't see him retaining 50% on Strome going out unless it's for the hoped-for #1RD.

A truly excellent, well-reasoned, well-expressed and well-explained reply to my response; for brevity, I've omitted the stuff that's 100% sound and thus doesn't require further comment.
By my statement that "Konecny isn't 'a top-20 RW in the league in his 20's,' he's a rental," I meant that the principal characterization of him should recognize his contract status instead of his quality, just as when discussing Mitch Marner, his rental status and AAV dwarf the importance of his on-ice performance. You are absolutely correct in factually noting that Konecny is one of the top-20 RWs in the league and I don't dispute his talent at all.

We've been through this. Los Angeles fans have declined that exact offer, more than once.

I would accept that offer as the Los Angeles GM. I'd be willing to discuss alternative prospects, too.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>DH28Hockey</b></div><div><strong>I mean, the package is a top-20 RW in the league in his 20's</strong>, a top-10 drafted RHD prospect in the league and a (as of today) 25 year old 40-50 point Center with solid defensive results. I can understand if Anaheim just flatly won't trade him, but this is a better package than even Eichel got</div></div>
Once again, an utter failure to appreciate the value of term. Konecny isn't "a top-20 RW in the league in his 20's," he's a rental. Two Junes from now, we could offer him a reasonable deal and Konecny could decide to take the very same compensation somewhere else because he'd prefer to play for that team, and we'd have nothing but one season of him. Bonk is indeed a nice prospect and I've accepted him in other Flyer offers for Zegras, but Frost seems an odd inclusion if you're trying to "solve [Philly's] issues down the middle." (By the way, Anaheim's plan is to use Zegras at LW from now on, deploying him in the center only when required by injury.)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>DumbHockeyTrades</b></div><div>thats an overpay lmao, Zegras isnt god</div></div>
Our ask is Foerster and the Philly first, not Foerster in place of Frost in the offer presented here.

Kings - Preds
I would accept that offer as the Los Angeles GM, and it's the first offer I've seen where Blake can legitimately say the trade is to better the team instead of correct a mistake.
All five of your largest free-agent signings need a little massage. Byfield's bridge will be twice that, Grundstrom won't get much more than his Qualifying Offer, Lizotte will get a tad less, Arvidsson will get much less and Roy will get $5.5 to $6 million. It all evens out in the end. But thanks for the most satisfying-while-realistic ACGM I'll see today!

I am all for chaos this offseason plus draft picks
You have the strangest misconception about the value of dumping modest amounts of cap (here, $2.75 million for one season). Ottawa can achieve the same objective by giving away Forsberg for a fifth-round draft pick (or lower), instead of dropping 20 places in the draft and out of the first round. The odds of getting an NHL player at #46 are about half what they are at #25 or #26 (depending upon whether Edmonton wins their series).
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>sensonfire</b></div><div>Spending a 1st just to dump Forsberg doesn't make any sense.
Ottawa declines.
Try again.</div></div>
This isn't the first time he's overvalued a cap dump. This transaction would put the value of divesting Forsberg at pick #40.

Using Dobber Hockey Salary Projections What were they thinking
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>hockeynutter</b></div><div>Agreed. I could not believe the projections when I saw it that I had to post lol.</div></div>
Thanks for posting the link!
Another one that stood out for me is RFA Jordan Spence at $3.67 million. Yes, he'll be a regular next year along with Drew Doughty and Brandt Clarke and Yes, he had a good year, but he doesn't have arbitration rights and the Kings are cap-stressed. I expect Blake to give him around $2 million -- $2.5 million tops.
The idea that he's worth twice what Pesce is worth is just insane, and I'm a Jordan Spence fan.

There's obviously something wrong with their RD model because there's no way Montour gets more than three times as much as Roy and almost four times as much as Pesce, as the esteemed <a href="/users/SharkTank" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">@SharkTank</a> implies.

No interest whatsoever in moving Phillip Danault, and the Los Angeles GM sure wouldn't want to -- he's who Rob Blake points to whenever Pierre-Luc DuBois' name comes up.

No, thanks. We'll struggle with DuBois, inasmuch as Fiala is worth more than Tavares and Moore is worth Robertson and a first-round draft pick, and you won't be exchanging Reilly for DuBois.

Hilariously counter-intelligent trades for both other teams. Chicago isn't trading the second overall pick and the one person Los Angeles won't be trading in order to draft Artyom Levshunov is Brandt Clarke.
