playoff push
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Haymaker26</b></div><div>Rakell didn't play at the WC after the Pens were eliminated because he wasn't healthy enough. He missed some time in November/December and I don't think he's been 100% healthy since. I think he was better than Smith was this season even despite the injury. If you don't want him it's fine by me, I think that trade would immediately come back to bite the Pens.</div></div>
oh yes imo it is a very big overpay for the pens, but on here seems like he has negative value which I disagree with. still believe that Marchessault would be an improvement for the pens

Hockey Trades
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Beauterham</b></div><div>Not true what? That Smith has a bad contract or that Saad's contract isn't?
I feel like in every Penguins-proposal the last couple of months, fans are trying to unload Smiths' contract for anything they can get, even if it's just a bag of pucks.
Saad is younger, scores a guaranteed 25-ish goals every year and is on a slightly cheaper caphit (not actual money). We need bodies during the retool and Saad gives us some highly needed depth scoring.
I'm not against moving Saad though, but I want something like a 2nd round pick (or prospect) back. No interest in Smith if we have to give up assets with positive value.</div></div>
I'm also sending him away for whatever in my AGM but that doesn't mean that he has negative value.
1. I'm doing it cuz the comments would all be about that trade and not the actual post
2. he is not working in Pitt but he is still a good player (overpaid by 1 mil)

10th Pick
honestly don't see what the pens are gaining other than the 10th overall which shouldn't be our priority.
the other two guys aren't good, O'Connor 10x better than bastian and pickering has 10x the sealing bahl has.
trading jarry + 2nd for 10OA sure, but doubt the devils accept.
we'll have plenty of great picks once sid and geno are gone. whoever you draft at 10thOA won't be helpful next year, maybe the year after if you get the steal of the draft..

Rebuild bye Crosby not realistic
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>draft_em_sign_em_trade_em</b></div><div>LOL
No one will offer two or more 1st Rd picks plus roster players to get Crosby.
You don't know what you're talking about, Crosby NMC means if he says I'll only accept a trade to Florida, you really think the Panthers say "here's our three 1st Rd picks, a roster player and our best prospect".
No, the Pens will accept whatever they get offered, a case of beer and a bag of pucks.</div></div>
1st of all, this isn't going to happen period.
2nd even if he asks a trade to florida or any other team the last word is on the pens to agree.
3rd crosby is still a top 10 player in the league (top 5 imo) and you will have to pay him as such.
4th crosby is more interested in the pens future (even if he won't be part of it) than he would be in the panthers (in your example), he actually might ask florida to pay extra picks just so the pens gain more and it wouldn't affect his chances at a cup.
and last but not least... it won't happen.

well if the market is restricted only to the sharks I agree, but I believe more teams in the same situation would be interested.
plus i do believe he stays and has a bounce back season, nothing huge, but just going back to the level he usually plays at

Then I could see pit unloading him with a mid round pick attached but at that point they should hopefully finally start their long needed rebuild.</div></div>
there is no need for a rebuild until sid, geno and tanger are on the ice. the future will have to wait.
see I find this interresting, if I were the sharks GM lets say, you have a very bad team at the moment, which is at the very least 4 to 5 years away from contending (if the rebuild is done correctly) I would definitely take an extra 3rd round pick only to take on rakell's deal and here is why:
1. he turns it around plays well and could be traded for more assets.
2. he continues to play ok you can trade him 50% retained and still get good assets for rakell at 2.5
3. if he sucks like last year (which is still better than whatever they have) he is still a good veteran presence in the locker room and a good experienced player to play with if you are one of the young kids drafted by the org.
and the contract has 'only' 4 more years which is still in the sharks will suck window.

depends on how team value the player (who is still good) and with the cap going up a team without cap problems may take a chance on him.
surely a little sweetener might be needed but definitely not a 1st round pick.

no reason for pit to do the pettersson deal. he is much more valuable than this. higher pick and better prospect. and bahl is a bigger poj nothing great (different players but same value)

well a late first seems like way to much for Middleton that's where we probably don't agree. poj was just a plus in that trade to increase value but he is not worth a 1st I know that. he is worth a 3rd at best.
something like a 3rd + 4th seemed enough to get him.

Lord Stanley
Obviously pit would decline. being a later 1st rounder both in year and positioning value is way off. it would need to be a pick in 2024 and somewhere between 7th - 15th imo for pit to accept. depends also on the depth of the draft which seems not great this year.
also Robertson isn't a good enough prospect. add a better one or knies

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Penz87</b></div><div>- Pavelski probably stays in Dallas
- I don't think Lindholm would sign somewhere just to play 3C
- Why would the canes trade Orlov and bring in Graves? I get the Smith part because he could be good for them. It would likely be only Smith for Orlov.
- I really hope Yager shows out in training camp and earns a spot in the NHL lineup. He's been so good in the WHL playoffs, but I bet they let him stay in the WHL for one more year.
- I can definitely see Teravainen signing that</div></div>
you are probably right on pavelski
lindholm can also play on genos wing once pavelski stays in Dallas and we can use that cap for a 3C or just use eller there and give ponomarev a shot at 4C with gurden on the wing.
Orlov comes at a stupid cap hit so my thought was to give them a replacement for the same position plus smith retained. can add some picks if necessary.
hopefully yager comes and play in the NHL. I think playing with sid would make him grow much more than another year in junior.
