<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>tstrauss16</b></div><div>If i were to think about where we want to be in the future, I think we need to build a roster that is cup competitive in 2027-28. This team is lacking a top line LW, future 3C, top pairing LD, most likely 2 Top 4D RD, and a 1B goalie. I’d sign Buchy to a 5-year deal if possible (willing to pay $7.75M AAV) and use him as a stop gap until the 2027-28 season in the 1LW role. I’d take a stab at acquiring Tkachuk or Keller via trades or even wait for the following summer as a free agent (trade would most likely be Bolduc, 2028 1st, 2029 2nd, and maybe a B/C prospect). Go all out this draft for your top pairing LD. We need to trade with Seattle or someone else to move up. I’m thinking our 1st, Dean, TOR 2nd, and our 3rd. We can draft one of Buium, Silayev, or Dickinson with that pick. Within the 2025 and 2026 drafts take a right defenseman and center. Now we are cooking with a future team that should be competitive and open a window.
Tkachuk/Keller - Thomas - Snuggerud
Neighbours - Dvorsky - Kyrou
Buchnevich - 2025/26 1st Rd - Stenberg
Toropchenko - Schenn - Peterson
2024 1st Rd - Parayko
Lindstein - Stop Gap Free Agent*
Buchinger/Perunovich - Kessel/Other Prospect
Hofer
* Doubt 2025/26 1st Rd is ready by then.</div></div>
We don't need a 1B, we have Zherenko coming along.

lol all good. i think your logic sound but even if yakemchuk is gone, the Sabres dont really care about left vs right for the blue line. Also get the impression they just dont like drafting d-men in the first round.

Buffalo could consider that, but I think using the value of trading back to get a ready now asset makes more sense. Buchnevich, Schenn, or Parayko come to mind if the Blues wanna do a little youth reset here.

Their biggest need is by far a 1C. Even if all the good center prospects are gone they will probably just go BPA since there will still be a good prospects available at that pick.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>tstrauss16</b></div><div>Who is Freij? What’s the situation with him?</div></div>
Average size swedish LD who is a really solid skater and transition guy. I view him as a really good sleeper pick if we can grab him with one of our second rounders. Not unrealistic that he could be top 4 D, but in my eyes he is a high end 3LD

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>mokumboi</b></div><div>I'd imagine Dickinson is #1, but also likely the hardest one to trade up for. I'm sure Buium is right up there. Obviously, Silayev is kinda like a lefty Parayko, so he'd be great even if it takes him a couple years to get out of Russia (which it might not considering current events).
Judging from past trade ups, our 2nd can probably squeak us into the top 10. Of course, we also have the NYR 2nd and two 3rds in our pocket, plus all our picks moving forward.
I think there's a solid chance 8-10 could score us Buium. For Dickinson, we probably need at least 6th. Then theres Silayev and even Yakemchuk who could be exceplent snares. I'm not so high on Parekh because he’s fairly awful defensively.
We've been killing drafts recently, so I'm confident we'll end up happy. In fact, our draft crew is probably the part of the organization I have the most confidence in by a good margin.</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>tstrauss16</b></div><div>I think you are right here. Our scouting and draft crew has been killing it since the Jake Neighbours pick in recent years. I think trading up is the best approach as like you said I’m not high on Parekh or Jiricek from my end. Silayev would be awesome to draft and it seems like he has been falling as of late. I anticipate him to continue to fall since Russia won’t be competing in the WJC in a month.</div></div>
I would assume that the Blues try to explore many avenues to trade up, but my from my point of view Jiricek feels like a safety net of sorts. I am pretty confident that if no team is willing to do a trade like last year that we will have Jiricek at the very least to pick up with the 16th pick. Despite injuries he still has good 2nd pair potential.
My bigger hope is that we can pick up someone like Alfons Freij in the second round.

Trade up. Several teams above us are already loaded with young Dmen, and we have some good trade up ammo. The primary goal should be to land Dickinson or Buium or Silayev.

I think it's not out of the realm of possibility Dvorsky will make the team (although I'd rather him start the season in Springfield), especially now Snuggerud opted for another year with te Gophers. However, don't expect too much from Dvorsky if he does make i, as It will probably be in a similar role as Thomas played in his first season with limited icetime.
BTW, I'd rather keep Hayes if the return is only going to be a 6th after retaining on him. We're not going to be contenders next season and we need warm bodies anyway.
That Binner trade is brutal for the Blues BTW... After how he played this season Binner at full value is probably already a 1st round pick, not even mentioning us retaining on him. I also don't see why we're adding a 2nd?
<a href="/users/Ryan" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">@Ryan</a> Chesley: we need a much better prospect if we're getting WSH 1st as a return.

Agreed. Saves about a million for the two remaining years then only coats less and 700k for 2 more when cap goes up drastically. Philly takes the hit as well

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Nhl_oilers</b></div><div>I believe both squads would pass. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I don’t imagine that St Louis would want a 26 year old Lindgren, instead would want a younger player, or prospect (preferably defence).
New York gets a good top 6 forward, sure, however, they are filling a hole to gain another one here. Lindgren is a huge part of their defence. Loosing him would make that defence core horrible!</div></div>
For stl, Armstrong has specifically said he wants players close in age to Thomas and kyrou. They are both like 24 or 25 so a 26 year old is right in line with what they want.

Definitely not sure that buch would go there but that seems like good value for a guy on the last year of his contract. A young #2/3 defenseman plus a first is pretty good. I do think they would want the 24 first though

Lindgren is to value to the rangers defense so it'll be an addition by subtraction

Yakemchuk will be gone by the time the blues draft. The line up next season should not include both Krug and Perunovich. One needs to go and probably easier to move Scotty P.
