Offersheet Necas and sign Brett Pesce
Pettersson is an interesting option— I can get on board.
Pretty steep price/term for Pesce, but NSH desperately needs top 4 RHD.
And they should combine to make a solid shutdown d pair.
I’d go with:
Josi - Fabbro
Pettersson - Pesce
Stastney - Lauzon
Schenn

8 years for two 30 year olds is a tough pill to swallow, even if they’re good.

Too high a price for a player with a lot of skill but a lot of holes in his game. And I can’t see Trotz trading his first ever draft pick within a year of making it

I’d do Lindholm and DeMelo at those prices, but they’re both probably under market value— so unlikely. I wouldn’t bother with the rest.

I don’t love have another 30+ year old center on a long-term, big money contract after Johansen and Duchene— but at the same time this could be a solid top 6:
Forsberg - O’Reilly - Evangelista
Novak - Zibanajed - Nyquist
But I ultimately wouldn’t want that contract on the books.

He’d get more than a 7th.
He had a great season last year after a lot of meh years. He’s big, hits, fights, plays center, good at faceoffs, great forecheck, plays PK, and was surprisingly good offensively last year with 12 goals. And he’s making under $900k for the next two seasons. That kind of player is worth more than a 7th. He’s not groundbreaking, but a mid pick isn’t a steep price.
Maybe LAK isn’t that team though. But I saw this deal more than a few times from LAK posts during the deadline. That’s why I went with this deal.

Why would VGk trade Karlsson and only get about $1m in cap space out of it? This is a downgrade at center for a marginal cap savings— not the kind of deal they’d be looking for if he were to be made available.

However, I do find the NSH trade interesting. I think RHP is a guy who fits very well in NSH's bottom 6, and I could see that trade happening</div></div>
RHP does not have the value needed to move up any amount of spots in the 1st round. He’s probably has the equivalent trade value of a 4th rounder. Not to mention NSH is stacked on wing with 25 and under talent who are better than he is. This is an easy pass.

Nashville offseason
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MitchJr</b></div><div>Your anti Leaf bias is showing bud 😂; you’d rather contradict yourself than admit Marner might a top player. His back to back first team nhl all stars in 21 & 22, & selke nominee while scoring at a 100 point pace last year might be considered as objective proof that he’s a game changer 🤷🏻.
Also are McKinnon’s numbers inflated because he plays with Rantanen, Kucherov with Point, etc. again - easily one of the laziest, most ill informed statements I’ve ever read on this site.
Let’s take away your clear anti Leaf bias and get to the heart of the matter - as an Oilers fan , should Drai and team not be able to agree to an extension and they both agree to a trade in July - what would be a fair return?</div></div>
Why would I have an anti-Leafs bias? Simply because I have a different opinion than you on a Leafs player. But then I also said Matthews is the leagues best goal scorer. If I really had bias, I’d find a way to not admit that lol
We just have a difference of opinion, and clearly two different ways of communicating that.
But to answer your question, Draisaitl would get a better return than Marner. Oh no, my Leafs bias is showing… smh
All I’m saying is that I would be apprehensive to give a large return and even larger contract for Marner. There you go. That’s it. This is getting tiresome, so that’s gonna be it for me.

Nashville offseason
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MitchJr</b></div><div>What a truly and marvellously preposterous take.
McDavid plays with Draisaitl so his prod’n (& value league wise) drops if moved; same for McKinnon (Rantanen) or Kucherov (Point); truly horrible take 🤦🏻 - all great players currently play with other great players.
Second - logic dictates if moved, Marner only waives to somewhere he would negotiate an extension. Doubtful he’ll want to play for 3 teams in less than 2 years. Agreed that list of teams that could afford him next year limits the pool, but if he waives - he’ll work with Toronto go to a preferred location. Those teams will offer full or close to full value to gain a player of Marner’s ability; if not (assuming he doesn’t extend in T.O.), he becomes a full FA in 26-27 when vast majority of teams will have lots of cap space. Leafs are under no pressure to move him for scraps</div></div>
Marner isn’t close to any of McDavid, MacKinnon, or Kucherov. Marner isn’t one of the best players in the league or a game changer like those players are. And yeah, when EDM needs goals they stack the top line and play McDrai together because it makes it more likely that they’ll score— which furthers my point that playing with elite offensive talent is a boost for offense.
But yeah, teams that have cap space for am $11m Marner likely won’t have as good of linemates for him to play with. If you don’t think that playing with the best goal scorer in the NHL in Matthews helps with his point totals, then I don’t know what to tell you. He won’t have that on another team.
That’s why I used Gaudreau, a much better comparable in terms of production and type of player. Gaudreau lost Tkachuk and Lindholm, and he’s not the same player anymore with CBJ. And Lindholm also lost the magic too (not comparing him to Marner, just showing that who you play with does matter). It didn’t happen to Tkachuk because, as you’re suggesting with Marner, it’s not a guarantee. Some players are good no matter what and can still produce playing with non-elite talent.
But to invest significant assets in a trade and then sign him to one of the highest value contracts in the game (considering he was already the 11th highest cap hit in the league this season) is a big risk, and I don’t want to be the team to take that risk.

Nashville offseason
I find it highly unlikely that any team will offer a full-value deal for a guy that carries a nearly $11m cap hit— very few teams could even consider it and then Marner would have to agree to it due to his NMC as well.
And then you’d have to re-sign him to a potentially even higher cap hit even though he’s never reached 100 points (though come very close) while playing with Matthews, Nylander, and Tavares his whole career. He’s not going to be a better player on another team playing with lesser talent. He won’t have nearly as big a drop off as Gaudreau when he moved to CBJ, but he won’t be the same player on another team. Buyer beware.

It’s very unlikely for a first time GM to trade one of his first signings after only a year. Nyquist will be a Pred to start the season, although he could be moved at the deadline depending on where NSH is in the standings.

Signing a bunch of 30+ and near 30 year old UFAs doesn’t really mesh with what he’s trying to do.
He wants to open space for the younger players to play larger roles. This isn’t to say he won’t sign someone over 30, I just don’t see him signing so many to the point that Evangelista gets stuck on the 4th line.

Danault who has a NMC is the last place LA would look to move for cap space.</div></div>
They have 4 centers that can play in the top 6 — Kopitar, Byfield, Danault, and Dubois. I don’t see Byfield staying at LW long-term, so this is just an option for clearing out that logjam at center. They can then utilize that cap space to target improvements for either defense or goaltending.
Also, never said anything about Dubois’s abilities as a player, just his contract length/commitment. If anything, this opens up more opportunities for Dubois to bounce back.
You can disagree with the value, but I’m just looking at something different. I agree that it would likely take an overpay to get Danault, but I also feel like CAR is a place he would waive for if it comes down to it.
