I'm gonna preface the comment about "Ceci is a top-4 RD and thus will return value" and just say that his struggles in the postseason alongside EDM's bargaining position will adversely impact the likelihood of that. As such, I'm running a worst case scenario.

Sabres pass, not wasting money and a retention spot for 2 years for a 3rd round pick. Best bet is Utah, if they say no, gonna have to up that compensation. The Sabres aren't gonna do it anyway, they don't weaponize cap space, and I wouldn't want them to for a 3rd.

I think the Pegula have a internal cap and would not retain unless it's no their cap another team might do it.
