Is Kaliyevs value really that low? I feel like that would be very worth it for the pens low risk high reward. How was he this season?

Leaf fans if LA offers you Clarke for Marner you say yes. That would be a massive W for the organization.

LA fans is this Kaliyev trade something you would accept as a return?

He was better the year before this one. Did'nt play that much towards the end of the year and in general wasn't able to play as expected. He is a very talented player and I see him getting there in another team. If I was LA, I wouldn't let him go for this type of package

Defense just got a whole lot worse though..unless Drai is not with the Oilers, this team (specifically defense) won't beat them. Gavrikov-Roy is the most successful shutdown pair against McDavid or Drai. Replacing Roy with Lyubushkin is just such a major downgrade.

You are right about that, but I hope Rob Blake will not have the stupid idea to have any thought that is close to that. Clarke is the future after Doughty on the Kings right side and should play his first full year with the Kings no matter what

I fixed my horrible sentences but I agree. Clarke is the future after Drew who is still playing at a high level.

The Kings aren't trading Clarke, Fiala or Moore to get one season of Marner and one season of Saros. Leave the short-sighted thinking to someone else.

Elliotte Friedman reported at the deadline that they considered trading him for a 4th line upgrade (he mentioned Dewar as a possibility), Dewar was traded to Toronto for a 4th. So I can't image Kaliyev being worth much more than a 3rd.

Lybushkin's defensive metrics (ignoring his time on Buffalo/Anaheim) are among the top 10 in the league. He was on for one 5v5 goal against in the entire Toronto/Boston series while playing on the Leafs' top pair logging big minutes. He is by far a better defensive D than Roy, he just brings absolutely no offense, a complete black hole of offense. The most you'll get from him is a breakout pass, even then he prefers to dump/chip.

Fundamental problem with this idealistic view Kings fans have is that for anyone criticizing how LA's D looked this year, imagine a right side of Doughty/Spence/Clarke. You have 3 offensive D who are all vulnerable in their own zone. I can't see Blake thinking its remotely feasible to enter the season with those three guys. One of them has to move. Its not Doughty and Spence is a sure thing.

It's also just really bad asset management to keep all 3 given that their best skill is being a PP QB, all of their scouting reports have that as their most valuable asset and 1 of them will need to do it on the second unit, and one won't do it at all. Like if you play Clarke and keep Doughty/Spence on the PP then by the end of next year his trade value will plummet, the whole league will see his defensive deficiencies and none of his offensive upside. It's a large reason he wasn't in the NHL full time this year.

LA won’t be offering Clarke. TOR would ask and LA would laugh.

No this is a complete lowball offer

Why are the Leafs acting as though they have leverage in any Marner trade. He has the NMC, he picks his destination. LAs cap situation is too muddy without Byfield signed, and once he is, do they really need Marner. Kempe, Fiala, Moore, Byfield as your top-6 wingers seems solid enough.
