Note: Reports prior to Sept 2023 were originally graded out of ten, and also included additional categories that have been merged into the current categories.
This likely results in the overall ratings prior to 2023 being decreased in comparison to reports since Sept 2023.

For an `Apples to Apples` comparison between players, we recommend only comparing reports before, or after, Sept 2023.
Results will average out accordingly as more data is accumulated.

Cutter GauthierLogo of the Anaheim DucksC206 of 6
A-
L1
Gauthier ends his college career at Boston College by producing 38G-27A in 41GP He was the leading goal scorer in the NCAA Gauthier has tasted success at every stop in his development. He was the leading scorer at the World Juniors in Sweden, at Christmas, and named to the tournament All-Star team - leading Team USA to Gold. Gauthier can push the pace in open ice. He's very difficult to defend coming off the edge when entering the offensive zone at top speed - especially when considering his nearly 6'2 1/2 200lbs frame. Gauthier is an elite shooter. He has a quick release. Pucks are on and off his stick in a hurry and he shoots it hard and accurately. He's a massive threat working the weak side flank on the power-play or cycling off the boards and taking the play to the middle of the ice. Like and young goal scorer, there are times in games Gauthier needs to be more engaged defensively. It's not a hockey sense issue. He clearly understands where to go in all three zones - but he does tend to stop moving his feet at times on the back check and in small areas defending his zone. Gauthier can play both the wing and the middle. He projects as a top line shooter / scoring forward at the NHL level. The bulk of his ice time will come at even strength and the PP.Apr. 11, 2024Apr. 14, 2024
Tomas SuchanekLogo of the Anaheim DucksG201 of 1
80
#3
Anaheim signed Suchanek to an NHL contract extension on March 24th / 2024 Suchanek isn't the prettiest goalie to watch in the crease. He can sometimes be a bit unorthodox with this style of play. Crease composure, overall, ranges. Tends to scramble more than most goalies. Rebound control is extremely important. When pucks bound off him he is forced to make stops that can expose his smaller net stature. Overall solid year, in 23/24, at the AHL level with San Diego - 2.56 GAA / .919 save % Athletic. Competitive. Works. Never quits on a puck.Mar. 22, 2024Mar. 23, 2024
Frank VatranoLogo of the Anaheim DucksLW292 of 2
82
L3
Vatrano is the leading scorer in Anaheim. He's a shooter / goal scorer more than a play maker. Dangerous on the power-play. He's contributed 11G - 6A with the man advantage Plays quick and fast. Tracks up ice with enthusiasm. Involved extending plays along the wall. Through 61GP he averaged 18:17 TOI - deployed in all situations - credited with 119 hits - 64 shot blocks - 191 shots on goal - 69 PIMS - (-18) defensively Brings energy, compete, goal scoring. Defensive detail ranges. Can be a bit hectic in his zone. Signed through 24/25 $3.65M AAVFeb. 25, 2024Mar. 5, 2024
John GibsonLogo of the Anaheim DucksG304 of 4

1B
Gibson's game mirrors that of the rebuilding team he plays for. There are nights he looks like a true #1A - but there are nights he also looks like less Through 37GP he's posted a 3.16 GAA and a .896 save percentage Big in the net. Has the quickness, and range moving side to side, to come up with the kind of saves others struggle to make. At times moody looking. No doubt he competes and cares - just in his own way. A change of scenery might benefit Gibson … but his $6.0M cap hit through 26/27 and 10 team no trade clause might stand in the way. Feb. 19, 2024Feb. 23, 2024
Trevor ZegrasLogo of the Anaheim DucksC223 of 3

L1
Remains out of the Ducks lineup, recovering from surgery for a broken ankle. Limited to 20GP so far this season. Averaged 17:00 TOI - ES and PP#1 Dynamic offensive talent who has holes in his game defensively and, at times, lacks a full 200ft effort. (-5) defensively at time of his injury. Took a step back offensively as well (4G-3A) with all of his assists coming on the PP. Room for significant improvement in the face-off circle (40%) Plays with pace. No doubt top line offensive skill. Needs to be only average defensively to have his element stand out as the primary positive in his game. Signed through 25/26. $5.75 million AAV. At the time of the All-Star break, Zegras was out of the Ducks lineup recovering after surgery for a broken left ankle. In 20GP he produced 4G-3A - Averaged 17:19 TOI - 14:28 ES - 2:50 PP - Does not PK Pure offence. Dynamic skill. Plays with very little physicality. Aggressive directing pucks on net. Gibson can be difficult to evaluate The Ducks are a rebuilding outfit who give up more high danger chances against than the majority of NHL teams. Their goalies are generally under consistent duress and have to be the teams best player on a nightly basis. Some nights Gibson is up to the task. Other nights he looks defeated. The positives include - good size - good quickness - generally sound crease composure - The negatives include - rebound control and tracking side to side can range based on how fast opponents make plays in front of him - mental make up looks shaky at times Signed through 26/27 $6.4M AAV - 10 team No trade List - Change of scenery could bring out his bestJan. 5, 2024Jan. 7, 2024

The Philadelphia Flyers first round pick (5th overall in 2022) led the WJC in scoring with 2G-10A playing for Team USA Big body - power frame - solid skater - rips pucks from the weak side flank on the PP - extends plays in the trenches / along the boards Easily defined. Trending towards NHL sooner than later. Jan. 5, 2024Jan. 7, 2024
Noah WarrenLogo of the Anaheim DucksRD192 of 2
A-
P3
Warren was selected by the Anaheim Ducks in the second round (42nd) in 2022 He's a hulking 2-way / Leaning Defensive Defenceman who's long and rangy. He can kill plays using his long reach to deflect pucks and interrupt opponents driving in his lane. Warren plays a physical style. He gaps up and battles to box opponents out around his crease. Good skater for his stature. Edges are clean. Adequate distributing pucks from his zone. If things break down he keeps it simple and chips pucks off the glass and into space for his forward to skate into.Dec. 19, 2023Dec. 22, 2023
Leo CarlssonLogo of the Anaheim DucksC183 of 3
85
L1
The Ducks have a development plan in place for Carlsson. He isn't going to play every game this season. He's dressed in 10 games so far, although he did miss some time early on battling a minor injury. So far so good overall. Carlsson is a big, strong, skilled, smart, finesse / power combination forward. He has excellent puck touch. He extends plays along the boards and absorbs contact to extend zone time. He sets up on the weak side goal line area on the PP and gravitates to the crease area setting screens. He's already had a hat trick (vs Philly) and he's showing he can be trusted away from the puck defensively. Like most young players, at the NHL level, he is struggling in the face-off dot (25%) ... but it takes time to learn how to win draws versus the best players in the world. Through 10GP he has averaged 18:21 TOI - 14:40 ES - 3:35 PP - and scored 6G - 2ANov. 12, 2023Nov. 14, 2023
Frank VatranoLogo of the Anaheim DucksLW291 of 2
85
L2
Vatrano looks like a man on a mission to start the 23/24 season. He's always provided goal scoring. He's a shooter more than a distributor. He can play quick and fast ... and become a transition threat when skating between the blue lines with the puck on his stick. He's also not shy about chipping pucks deep and pressing the play as F1 on the forecheck. What's most impressive, so far this year, is his commitment to detail defensively. He finished last season (-29). He' already (+5) this season and being used in a variety of roles. Vatrano has a lethal one-timer from the weak side flank on the PP. He beats goalies clean from range. Through his first 14GP he's averaging 18:19 TOI - 13:31 ES - 2:16 PP - 2:31 SH He's scored 11G - 4A and been credited with 22 hits and 17 shot blocks He's competing in all three zones and always involved.Nov. 12, 2023Nov. 14, 2023
Jackson LaCombeLogo of the Anaheim DucksLD222 of 2
85
P2
LaCombe is evolving at the NHL level. He's being asked to play hard minutes defensively. The bulk of his ice time is coming at ES and PK He's a fantastic skater who's quick to space and can lead the rush when space is available. His agility allows him to jump to areas ahead of most of his opponents. His physical battle, and overall commitment on the defensive side has been mostly sound for a young player at this level. He projects as a '2-way D' who should provide some secondary offense in time. He was a proven point producer at the college level. To start the season he is averaging 20:20 TOI - 16:52 ES - 3:08 PK He's been credited with 12 hits and 23 shot blocks. Huge upside. Part of the Ducks 'core' future on the back end.Nov. 12, 2023Nov. 14, 2023
Pavel MintyukovLogo of the Anaheim DucksLD193 of 3
89
P1
Since coming to North America (at the start of the 21/22 season) his entire game has gone to another level. Mintyukov has always displayed an offensive element. He's a play maker who has the ability to walk the blue line to open up shooting lanes / or move pucks through seams to create scoring chances. He can also be a threat off the rush / transition the play on his own. He's creative. What has impressed most, however, is how much more aware he is defensively. His routes defending his zone are much more accurate and better timed. His long reach is an asset. He's more physically engaged. He's more than a transitional / PP QB. He's already trending as a reliable 'all situations' defenceman as a rookie at the NHL level. Through 14GP he's averaging 19:00 TOI - 15:09 ES - 3:17 PP - 0:33 PK Directed 24 SOG and scored 1G - 9A He's been credited with 24 hits and 18 shot blocks Terrific start to his NHL career.Nov. 12, 2023Nov. 14, 2023

L3
Average / Average plus in most skill categories. His offensive production has trended down for the last three seasons. Depth minutes at ES. Has a role on the PP and PK Heavy along the wall and out front opponents crease. Not a transition threat / burner in open ice. At this stage of his career he's a support player who can be thrust into a variety of roles but doesn't carry a heavy load minute wise. Through his first 14GP he averaged 12:38 TOI - 9:29 ES - 1:58 PP - 1:11 PK and scored 1G-3ANov. 12, 2023Nov. 14, 2023

A relentless competitor who never goes away. Heavy in the trenches. Difficult to move off the puck along the wall. Battles for space around the crease. Not a punishing body checker ... more of a heavy / power forward approach. Moves well. Great mitts. Equal parts shooter / distributor. Has directed 43 SOG in the first 14GP Excellent in the face-off circle (57%) Averages 17:39 TOI - 14:37 ES - 2:58 PP Only 20 years young. On the rise.Nov. 12, 2023Nov. 14, 2023
Brett LeasonLogo of the Anaheim DucksRW241 of 1
75
L4
Leason is working hard to define his overall game. Coming out of junior hockey his primary element was goal scoring. His pace was not at the NHL level when he started his career. He has clearly worked hard on his skating. He's never going to be a burner, but his agility and quickness has definitely improved. Trusted more on the defensive side of the ledger. Has a depth role at ES and a primary role on the PK. Long reach / size is an asset on the PK. Provides some physical push back. Averages 11:51 TOI - 9:00 ES - 2:43 PKNov. 12, 2023Nov. 14, 2023

Has developed into a threatening offensive talent at the NHL level. Bulk of his ice time comes at ES and PP#1 Works the weak side flank / middle bumper position on the PP. Creative. Excellent release. Plays the game with sound pace. Makes plays. Not a ton of bump to his game. Defensive detail ranges. Rarely used on the PK. Through his first 14GP he has averaged 19:04 TOI - 15:28 ES - 3:28 PP Play driver who gets the puck to the net (42 SOG). Has scored 5G - 6A in the 14GP.Nov. 12, 2023Nov. 14, 2023

L2
Dealt with injury to start the season. Has only played four games. His impact is immense however. He plays with a presence. Especially proficient at winning puck battles in the hard areas of the ice. Extends plays along the wall. When he doesn't have the puck he works extremely hard to win it back. Not physically punishing ... but hard to play against. He doesn't run people over but he never goes away. Provides a second layer of offense. Has the ability, and hockey sense, to be used in a variety of roles. Veteran leader for a young, developing team.Nov. 12, 2023Nov. 14, 2023
Ryan StromeLogo of the Anaheim DucksC302 of 2
81
L3
Strome is a much more engaged player to start the 23/24 season. He's coming off a year that he would like to forget defensively (-30) So far, through the first 13GP he's a (+5) and completely turned things around. Strome has never been the kind of player who can be counted on in key defensive scenarios. His element is offense. He plays the game at above average speed and handles the puck well in transition and off the flank on the PP. When he's producing the way he is (2G-12A) in the 13GP ... and not a liability defensively ... his value to the overall team increases exponentially. Averages 17:06 TOI - 13:44 ES - 3:06 PP - 0:16 PK Nov. 12, 2023Nov. 14, 2023
Trevor ZegrasLogo of the Anaheim DucksC221 of 3

L1
There is no question Zegras brings an offensive element. His hockey sense, in the offensive zone is elite. His off the puck detail, and commitment to defense when required is a work in progress and the new coaching staff in Anaheim is holding him accountable. His offense is down, to start the season. Through his first 12GP, Zegras slots 10th in forward scoring for the Ducks. He's only produced 1G-1A. His primary ice time comes at ES and PP. Zegras averages 17:51 TOI - 14:53 ES - 2:58 PP Zegras is a (-4) defensively and only winning 42% of his draws.Nov. 12, 2023Nov. 14, 2023

Picks up where he left off in playoffs, last season, when he was with the Florida Panthers. A physically intimidating defenceman. Plays the game heavy. Gaps up with authority. Never gives up any easy ice to opponents. Average plus skater and distributor. When he gets a chance to direct pucks on net he can surprise with a heavy shot from range. A match-up 'D' whose job is to make life miserable on his opponents and he takes pride in the role. Through his first 14GP he's averaging 18:47 TOI - 15:20 ES - 0:06 PP - 3:21 PK Scored 2G -1A and been credited with an incredible 35 hits and 34 shot blocks ... putting him on pace for over 200 hits and 200 shot blocks.Nov. 12, 2023Nov. 14, 2023

Ranges between a #1B - #1A. Some nights elite. Some nights average plus. His last couple years have seen share of ups and downs, including battling injury. Splitting the games, so far, to start the 23/24 season. More structure in front of him agrees with his game. Butterfly. Good athlete. Tracking very well. Reacting to make timely saves at key moments. Battling. Has a more engaged look to his game. Looks closer to the goalie he was between 2016-2019 compared to the last couple seasons. His GAA is down dramatically (3.99 last year compared to 2.21 so far this season) His save percentage is also much improved (.899 last season compared to .926 to start this yearNov. 12, 2023Nov. 14, 2023
William LagessonLogo of the Anaheim DucksLD271 of 1
72
ML
Lagesson is being asked to take on more responsibility with the injuries piling up on the Leafs blue line early in the season. Historically he has provided some secondary / depth offense. He's capable with the puck and has the agility to find lanes in the offensive zone to direct pucks on net. He had a breakout year at the AHL level last season playing for the Chicago Wolves. Monitor how he adjusts to the speed of the NHL game. He's competing to take away time and space defensively but there are times he's losing his 'angle / positioning' on opponents. Lagesson has good size but he isn't punishing physically. He uses his reach / length to interrupt plays. It's not likely he will bring much offense at the NHL level. Monitor his ability to keep things simple and execute defensively.Oct. 28, 2023Nov. 4, 2023

In his last ten game segment playing at the SHL level in 2023 he averaged nearly 15 minutes per game ice time and was deployed at even strength and the power-play. Impressive year all around. Power-forward. Moves very well. A threat to make plays off the rush. Excellent puck touch. Hard to handle along the wall and out front the net. The kind of player who absorbs contact to extend plays. Ability to play the middle and the wing is a bonus. There are times he appears to be a distributor more than a shooter - but he has a great release and the skill set to tip pucks around the crease. When healthy he can be one of the top end goalies in the league. Has struggled with injury which has held him back for stretches Moves well. Good gloves. Plays the puck. Battles for his crease. He can steal games. When watching him play you wonder how his numbers aren't better than they are. Playing behind a more veteran group would likely improve the optics of his stats. A right shot forward with size and skill. More of a goal scorer than distributor. Quick release. Shoots the puck accurately. Enthusiastic going on offense. Good skater. Quickness and open ice speed are sound. Not a burner between the blue lines transporting the puck but certainly not slow. His combination of power and skill are attractive elements.Feb. 2, 2022Jul. 2, 2022

Tristan competes. He gives all he has. He has the sense and vision to join the rush as an extra attacker. He's also capable of distributing the puck on both his forehand and backhand. Used in all situations in Gatineau. Projects to be a 2-way 'D' more than an offensive 'D' as a pro. His defending detail has room for improvement. In small areas and out front his net he struggles at times to position himself appropriately and contain opponents.Feb. 2, 2022Jul. 2, 2022

A competitive player who is being used in all situations at the OHL level. Produces offense at even strength and the PP. Outlets well. Passes the puck hard and accurately. In the offensive zone he has the ability to walk the blue line and make plays. He will pinch down to keep pucks alive. He has pace to lead the rush or come late as an added layer. Shoots the puck hard and accurately. His detail on the defensive side has a long way to go. He's a busy defender who needs to identify and contain better in his zone.Apr. 3, 2022Jul. 2, 2022

A big body who moves well and can play both the middle and the wing. He's more of a shooter than a distributor. He has, arguably, the quickest release in the draft. He directs pucks on net accurately from range and has the kind of shot that can beat goalies from long distance. Generally responsible in all three zones. Hard to push off the play in the trenches. Creates space for line mates. Projects to be at top 6 forward, with size, who will produce offense.Mar. 27, 2022Jul. 2, 2022

Pure offense. There is no doubting what his element is what he can be at the pro level. High end production on the (PP). He scores nearly 30% of his goals with the man advantage. Not the kind of player who will do any heavy lifting Skating needs to improve. Needs to get more explosive. Overall three zone detail has a long way to go.Apr. 3, 2022Apr. 8, 2022

A 2-way / big body defender with long reach who has been used in all situations in college On the PP he rotates from the left flank to the top middle of the ice for one timers Heavy shot. Mostly accurate from distance. Long reach in the offensive zone works against him at times when he is trying to handle around an opponent. On the other hand his reach is a plus when pinching down to extend a play. Gaps up but not punishing physically. On the PK he gets in the lane but will have to adjust to the pace of the NHL game Outlets well. Smart. Won't try to make something out of nothing. Ready to turn pro.Mar. 5, 2022Mar. 14, 2022

Can strike quickly when he gets time and space in the offensive zone. A light player when contained. He will need to add strength and lbs. to his frame. Good skater.
