Off the radar

Agreed. You can argue he would be a short-term upgrade, but not someone I would want to see be the return on a Rossi trade. If that's what you're getting back, just keep Rossi and if you really hate having someone his size as your 2c, try him on the wing.

MAF's full NMC says no.
Aside from that, probably would be difficult for the Wild to make that cap work next year since they'd need to sign Necas long-term.

Keeping the rebuild going
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CTC55</b></div><div>Dude just trying to make some trades ment no disrespect would have rather had a discussion on what the Wild could have countered with than this. I mentioned cap space this year not next I emmited the mistake that I thought the pick was later than it actually was and that is my bad I thought it was closer to 16th.</div></div>
Assuming by this year you mean 2024/25, they have 19 players signed with $5.9m in caps space which could be more if they move Gus for futures and go with Wallstedt's ELC in his place. Habs don't need a goalie and don't have a player that would match the rumored ask for Rossi which is who the Wild are open to moving. The Wild need a depth dman (probably either Chisholm or a rookie that wins the spot in camp) and a veteran winger (rumor is they want to sign Perron for 1 year) along with some league minimum healthy scratches. None of their needs are things you address with pick 13 (or even pick 16 or 27). There isn't a counter to make.
Again, the Wild's cap situation isn't a problem for the roster they've constructed next year and after that, it gets a little better with the buyouts dropping significantly.

2024 Offseason
As has already been stated if the Wild ship Gus out, it's only to make room for Wallstedt to backup Fleury. They won't bring in a more expensive goalie, maybe they take on someone like the Leafs did with Martin Jones last year where they can stash him in Iowa in case Wallstedt struggles.

Keeping the rebuild going
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MNBassman</b></div><div>The Wild have zero cap issues going forward!</div></div>
That's the other issue that keeps being overstated by people who can't be bothered to spend 30 seconds to look at their page on this site. Good, bad, or indifferent, Guerin extending all those players at the start of last season largely gave them a predictable cap situation this year and they actually have some money to spend if they want.
It's frustrating how willfully ignorant people choose to be on a site that has all the info they need if they just take some time and look. I know reading is hard, but man, it's always f'n Habs and Leafs fans.

Keeping the rebuild going
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CTC55</b></div><div>Honestly looking at it again it is lop sided for Habs I thought Wild were closer to 16th pick. Still the logic remains that Wild have little cap spcae and not many D signed and would want a cheaper young option to stop gap the heavy buyout costs they have.
Gives Rangers cap space and a young solid D and a 2nd rounder that they can use to trade for more help next deadline. What would the Rangers want in a Kakko trade?</div></div>
Not many D signed? lol
Brodin/Faber
Middleton/Spurgeon
Merrill or Chisholm/Bogo
For where they are as a team (not a Cup contender), that’s good enough for next year. They have several D prospects that will need playing time soon, absolutely no reason to trade back to bring in some random dman when you could literally just sign a veteran in free agency for a year or two if you wanted.
There is literally no one on the Habs that the Wild would consider moving pick 13 for outside of Suzuki, Caufield, or Slafkovsky (which obviously are all not available).

Definitely. The 2nd alone gets it done, but adding in a young goalie who just hasn't played behind a decent defense yet is just a bonus. Maybe he can be a solid backup behind Wallstedt. I'd guess maybe the Wild would need to add something small going back if they're getting pick 34 in the draft for Gus.

The same idiots saying Minnesota had no leverage in trading Fiala because they couldn't afford to keep him, I'd guess.

Can't see the Wild giving up pick 13 for a dman they really don't need. Would he be an upgrade on their left side? Sure, but they have higher priority areas of their roster that moving that pick would better address and honestly they should just use it instead of trading back to near the end of the round.

Apparently from the same place that Habs fans keep thinking Minnesota a) wants Matheson and b) would actually part with pick #13 for him.
Whatever they have in the water in Montreal, I want some.

Honestly? The absolute only way Kaprizov gets traded is if he won't extend in summer of 2025 when his full NMC has already kicked in and at that point, he controls if and where he goes so the return is going to probably be a disappointment for Wild fans. If they cared about ensuring they get a haul, the time to trade him is in the next 30 days before that NMC kicks in but they 100000000% will not do that.

He's flirting with Charlie Coyle status here, though he's at least more consistent in his scoring so it's not as bad.

The biggest problem is the pick is 2 years from now. I know Guerin is looking for a unicorn in trading Rossi, but if the pick was a 2024 pick there's a bit more to at least consider. I'd still likely say no, but at least there's something to consider on draft day if someone you really like is available when Detroit's pick is coming up.

I'm not entirely sure what your point is supposed to be. That's still not "0 leverage" and while it certainly might limit how many teams are willing to take the chance, there's a lot of NHL GMs that make dumb moves every summer and all it takes is 2 or 3 of them to bring the asking price up.

The leverage is they can trade him anywhere, so teams that want him are bidding against each other. Every year someone makes the same stupid argument and every year teams trade players they have to trade for a fair return because the acquiring team was simply not the only team offering something. Not sure why this is ever hard to understand, but yet here we are.

If I'm not confusing him with someone else, he was asked at his end of season interview by the media why the decline in his play the 2nd half of the year and responded something along the lines of "well I'm not injured". Sounds like a guy that needs to rebound and I'd honestly rather have Hartman despite his tendency to take stupid penalties. Plus he's a RHD and unless Spurgeon retires, the Wild have enough committed to that position especially once whatever Faber's extension ends up being kicks in after next year.

I thought I had read LW, but I may be remembering that wrong. I know they were hoping for a veteran with some size, someone they can bring in for a year or two at most I think. They've pretty well painted themselves into that corner by extending Foligno, Hartman, and Zucc past next year with guys like Yurov, Heidt, and Ohgren all needing roster spots soon.

The irony of you mentioning the Habs possibly packaging the 13th overall pick (that they're absolutely not getting for Matheson) to upgrade their top 6 when that's exactly what the Wild would do if they actually trade the pick isn't lost on me.
Easy no for Minnesota.
