CapFriendly to Shutdown Permanently
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>brady_t12</b></div><div>Because to build something like CapFriendly would take a long time. Friedman reported that teams felt like their options were to wait upwards of two years to have something just as good in place, or you buy the site and hire on the guys behind it - the caps were either the first to jump on it or had the highest bid. Expecting any other response out of the caps would be setting yourself up for disappointment. They saw a deficiency in their hockey ops and they did what they could to fix it.</div></div>
Thanks. It makes sense. I’m not a computer guy or tech savvy etc so to me to build something for 2 years is mind boggling. 🤷🏻♂️

I still have NO CLUE why they couldn't just build their own website. It's not hard and they already have a web team in place. Nothing on this site is private info or new info that you can't get anywhere else on the internet. So why take it away from the public? That's the question I want answered by Washington and the media.

Whaaaat? Arvid Soderblom is so good though. And Macker will provide you with a solid 1 point per 8 games!

back to the playoffs
I disagree with the assessment that they "need to make the playoffs". What they "need" is to keep their draft picks/prospects and grow and develop from within. Getting to the playoffs doesn't do anything for them. They aren't in financial distress where they need to sell tickets.
If you truly want to make the playoffs then you can try to sell players like Gourde and Grubauer at low costs like 3rd or 4th round picks and go shopping in free agency with you cap space. You could also weaponize your capspace and take advantage of a team like Philadelphia who is up against the cap and have key players to sign.
Build smart, not fast. Vegas is an anomaly because the other GMs handed them 1st round picks to not pick certain players.

Tough choices
No from Chicago. First, If that is asking price then they skip Necas and try for Guentzel in FA. Second I think they want to use that pick for themselves and load up on prospects. Third, they need Murphy. He is an assistant captain and a rock on D. He is only 1 of 2 NHL ready RDs on the team. Trading Murphy would be a huge hole.

Nucks 202425 Some Old With Some New
I'm sure Mikheyev would be a nice addition but there are reports GM Davidson is going fishing for Necas or Guentzel. I think if he lands one of them he may not need to pursue this. But if no one wants to come to Chicago and can't make some trades work, then sure. He wants to make the team better and more competitive this year so they'll need actual NHLers.

Not sure why I even bother looking at any Canucks ACGM that says trade to Chicago.

That’s ironically an overpay to Chicago. But I’d say no. Rather draft at 72 than drop down to 99

I’m not sure Seattle wants to sacrifice their D depth both in NHL and prospect pool. It’s pretty weak in both. They never drafted a D in 1st round and this is the year to do it with 8OA, whether that’s Silayev Parekh Buium Yakemchuk. Marner makes them top heavy.

I guess what I don’t understand is why did any NHL team need or want to buy this site? There’s zero NEW information on here and if they wanted the platform why didn’t they just create one internally?

Offseason
There’s just no way Seattle moves down 10 spots. They don’t have much D depth as their top draft picks have all been forwards. This is a D heavy draft in the top 10. They’re gonna stay put or move down 1-2 spots only if there are several D available they like.

I didn't say he was going to solve a problem. I said with him on the roster it allows Nazar to spend time in AHL and develop. Having Johanson at $6.9M for 1 season is fine. The team isn't expecting to be good and it helps them get to cap floor. I don't think Hawks are actively looking for this but if it happens it happens.

Marner signs 8-year extension in Chicago
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>exo2769</b></div><div>I'd still rather have Vlasic/Jones for the next 6 years and allow Levshunov proper development time too. I get he would be a #2 OA pick and all, but he's still a kid. He and Rinzel will be fighting for a roster spot in a year from now and that's a healthy competition. One will win and the other to Rockford. Then when Murphy's contract is up...you're hoping they're both ready. If each of them is not ready...then you sign a vet RD to a 1 year deal.</div></div>
Completely agree with your assessment. I'm just playing devils advocate. But it sounds more and more they're going to draft Levshunov. Some folks say he's NHL ready now but I bet/am hoping he goes back to MSU for 2nd year. Then he can be ready for 25-26, Rinzel in AHL for a year and in 26-27 you'll have Levshunov-Jones-Rinzel on the right.

Jones put up some pretty good offensive numbers his first season with Hawks. I wonder if/when the Hawks start to become a playoff team if his stats and analytics improve. Right now they're treating him like a Duncan Keith asking him to carry the D corps but if he ends up in a RD2/PP2 role I think that'll suit him and he'll be an above average RD2.

Just as a leafs fan I see Jones contract as a worse contract. hes at 9.5 til hes36 years old...Hes already going to be 30. Right now he may be OK at 9.5 on the right team but in a couple years we got anotherTavares contract going. If im giving up Marner whos only 27 , an all star, consistent 100 point average player im dropping some of that extrafrom chicago and having them retain a little bit of salary.
hes not that stay at home good defensive guy the leafs need imo. Id much rather Tanev at 5M</div></div>
For reference, there are no scouting reports on CapFriendly for him. He was a bit of a reach draft choice by Stan Bowman. Drafted 1st round 32nd overall in 2021. He's 6'2 almost 200lb LHD who is a stay at home type player. Comps at the time were Brent Seabrook but without the Seabrook ceiling. I imagine he could make his way up to LD2 but more likely a really good LD3. He is doing well in AHL but hasn't made it to NHL yet as Hawks have a logjam at LD. He's a B prospect. Likely to see NHL time.

Meh. If this happened I wouldn't lose sleep over it. The Poehling contract is in the wheelhouse at 2 yr $3.8M total. Fills a need at 2C and 4C. Poehling has to be an improvement on R Johnson and Macker. Johanson might be able to keep Nazar in AHL to develop more.

I'd FAR rather sign Jake Guentzel to a 4 year $12M deal than Marner to an 8 Year $12M deal because we don't need to sacrifice one aspect of our team (defensively we're a lot worse) for another. We can simply just get a better team.</div></div>
There's always free agency. Theoretically if they made this trade they'd have their RW1 and would need to go shopping for an RD2. Still leaves a hole at RD1 but Levshunov will becoming soon ;)

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SK101</b></div><div>Getting out of the jones contract alone is worth it. It will only get harder to move as time goes on. You don’t want that anchor of a contract when Chicago is ready to compete in a few years</div></div>
Nah. Hawks have so much cap space and in 2-4 years when they start getting their guys into their 2nd level contracts the cap is likely going up more and more and $9.5 will be tolerable. Hawks also have so many late 1st and 2nd rounders who are developing well enough that you can supplement the big contracts with the ELCs.
If he is ever traded there's always retention or just find an LTIR like Vegas.

I respectfully disagree with <a href="/users/chihawk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">@chihawk</a> and <a href="/users/exo2769" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">@exo2769</a> here. I think we take that. That leaves a gaping hole at RD but the return to Toronto for a 90 point per season player is insane. Allan hasn't touched the NHL yet and may only be a 3rd pairing NHLer, tops 2nd pairing. Raddysh I think showed himself last year. The two coming back are signing rights so if Chicago doesn't want them, don't sign/qualify them they'll become UFAs. So it's Jones + 2nd for Marner? I take that.
