Quoting: Augustus

Italics are RFAs and UFAs.

Los Angeles: gets a goaltender, hoping, like positive ol' me, that Gustavsson rebounds. Comes probably a lot cheaper than the other options. After acquiring Chychrun in my previous deal, they start out with $15.3 in cap space, which should be enough to bridge both Byfield and Spence, re-sign Grundstrom at a couple mil maybe, and re-sign RFAs or bring in cheap UFAs for their fourth line. Blake would need to be creative with the contracts, but it's possible.

Los Angeles 2024-25:
Gustavsson - Rittich

Anderson - Doughty
Chychrun - Spence
Gavrikov - Clarke

Byfield - Kopitar - Kempe
Moore - Danault - Fiala
Grundstrom - Dubois - Laferriere
Lizotte/Thomas/****emo/Turcotte/UFAs

Washington: Acquires a young, talented center who might be on Guerin's radar to trade, but should be coveted by a lot of teams. The Caps are in need of some better centers and why not get one who is still 22 and can grow with the rest of the youth. Replace Fehervary with Englund, a drop-off, but should Rossi continue developing into a solid top six center, worth it. Englund is still a serviceable 3rd pair guy too.

Are Rossi and a 3rd pair D-man (who may re-sign) worth these, and this many, assets leaving Washington?

Washington 2024-25:
Lindgren - Kuemper

Sandin - Carlson
Alexeyev - Jensen
Englund - Bear/van Riemsdyk

Ovechkin - Rossi - Oshie
McMichael - Strome - Wilson
Miroschnichenko - Lapierre - Milano
Malenstyn - Dowd - Sgarbossa

Minnesota: Guerin likes his rough and tumble character guys with size. He acquires a young, large forward who can play all three positions in Protas, already a 30-ish point guy and on the way to being a solid middle six player, a young left shot D-man in Fehervary who ought to play 2nd pair and eventually will slide up the chart if and when he can outpace Middleton on the pairing with Faber. He can play the right side too, so in case of injury to Spurgeon (likely), he can slot in beside Brodin on the 2nd pair while Merrill draws in. Also 2nd and 3rd round picks from the Capitals. From the Kings, to even out the goalie move, they get right wing prospect Koehn Zimmer, whose scouting report pegs him as a very responsible defensive forward with offensive upside, with a middle six future, possibly top six, another Guerin type. Beyond Zuccarello and Johansson, who are both aging, the Wild don't have many right wingers on the up and up as far as I know, though Boldy can play it. Either way, Protas and Zimmer will give the Wild better depth at the position.

Broken down, it's basically Rossi for Protas, Fehervary and the 2025 2nd, and Gustavsson for Zimmer and a 3rd. Not expecting Gustavsson to cost too much.

Minnesota 2024-25:
Fleury - Wallstedt

Middleton - Faber
Brodin - Spurgeon
Fehervary - Bogosian

Kaprizov - Eriksson-Ek - Zuccarello
Ohgren - Hartman - Boldy
Johansson - Khusnutdinov - Protas
Foligno - Shaw - Gaudreau

MIN forwards 2025-26:

Kaprizov - Eriksson-Ek - Boldy
Ohgren - Yurov - Zuccarello
Protas - Khusnutdinov - Hartman
Foligno - Shaw/Heidt/Haight - Gaudreau

Oshie is most likely done. And honestly I think the Caps pass. Rossi is great but we are giving up too much in return with Marty and Protas both being key parts of this team going forward
