Everyone else is why not Laine
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>alwaysnextyear</b></div><div>Maybe. Gudbranson doesn't hold value with that contract though, so when you consider the amount of cap CHI is taking on in the deal the return might be a little deflated. They could just as easily leave Gudbranson out of the deal, but even then I'm curious what the Jackets may end up getting for Laine. Good scorer obviously, but lots of missed games.</div></div>
I'll give you the same answer I give everyone - he's probably worth less than what CBJ posters think, but more thank what most other posters think.
I'm a glutton for committal, I know.

Getting in Laine
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hawksguy81</b></div><div>I agree this trade proposal is bad for CBJ. But zero chance the Hawks are giving up a 1st in any Laine deal and doubtful the Hawks would be in on him if CBJ is looking to recoup "full value", whatever that might be.</div></div>
100% - CHI should *not* be giving up 1sts for Laine. Issue is just there really isn't anything on CHI's roster right now (that is available) that they would want, and the high(er) end prospects CHI has probably aren't available, at least not in a trade just for Laine. Just not good trade partners right now.
As for "full value," I don't think any CBJ fan is saying he's worth a top-10 pick or anything; just not the pennies on the dollar some of these trades turn out to be, particularly where those same people call him **** then slot him in as LW1.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Bedsy_Burner</b></div><div>Nah. He doesn't. Especially now that they announced that they are moving on. CBJ will take a low ball just to receive the cap space, and the receiving team will risk the assets, and assume responsibility for his contract with the possibility that he can be more than a cap dump. If you don't like that, I suggest you prepare to be disappointed.
That said, this is probably fair. I just don't know if CHI is the team to do it. It's possible, though.</div></div>

Getting in Laine
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BrianCampbell</b></div><div>Laine isnt worth a late round first, especially not from the Hawks at this point in the rebuild. He is averaging 35 points a year, has taken time off, been injured, and hasnt driven a line since he was in Winnipeg.</div></div>
He's scored at a .8 PPG clip on a **** CBJ team with no C, and has lost time largely due to fluke injuries and a PAP stay (if that's what you want to call "taken time off").
He's not a play-driver, but he's still got a high-end offensive toolbox that, taking a guess here, will do very well on a top-line with Bedard. We're not talking about some B6 scrub.
He's got real value - probably more than non-CBJ posters here realize, even if its not as much as some CBJ posters think.

CBJ pass. Guds was actually a solid B4 guy this past year, albeit still slightly overpaid. He’s also a good locker-room guy, so he overall has value.
This package wouldn’t be enough for Laine straight up, most likely.

And we won’t sell him for this. PIT doesn’t have any roster players CBJ want (and are available), their prospect pool is thin, and the only thing we would take (1sts) probably aren’t on the table from Dubas.

Obviously love Norris when he’s on his game, but there’s been too much uncertainty with him to commit to the remainder of that contract.

CBJ v much pass. Ilya doesn’t do anything for us, and I like Hronek but don’t want his contract, nor do we have space for him.
VAN doesn’t really have any assets worth 4OA for CBJ, unless VAN wants to make a move with EP before that NMC kicks in.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Prime_Jimbo</b></div><div>If Waddell retains, then maybe a good return. Teams are gonna struggle with Laine's health, etc. over the past four years.</div></div>
Dude has scored at a .8 PPG clip on a **** CBJ team over that span.
That <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/4982860/2023/10/21/patrik-laine-injured-hit-blue-jackets/?source=user_shared_article" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" target="_blank">fluke injuries</a> and a PAP stay that we only speculate over kept him off the bench isn’t the drag people think.
Not to mention, my favorite of all - the “he isn’t gonna get a good return/he isn’t good anymore” argument, all while he gets slotted onto an ACGM’s top-line. A team is trading for him on the belief he can be a force again, not because they need bodies, and Waddell knows that.

wtf is laines value
Probably less than what most CBJ ACGMs are asking for (myself included), but more than what everyone else thinks.
People neg, but Laine is still a top-line guy, even if his tool-bag is all offense (I mean, look where he is placed on this lineup). He’s had more success than not with CBJ, but because of who he is, the dips get the magnifying glass.
Not sure what the fit is with VAN - looking at a 1st to start, at minimum. How much more than that, we’ll see. Jarmo was never a retention guy, but we’ll see what Waddell is willing to do. If it means upping the asset in a noticeable way, I’m all for it.

I’d be willing to entertain this if management is confident Kakko’s breakout last season was for real.
But I’m not taking on Goodrow.
I’d be willing to retain slightly more and swap him out with another good asset, but CBJ are all set on B6 “grit” guys.

CB J accept the UTA, WPG, and CAR trades. I'd consider PHI and FLA trades, pass on VGK.
Now, whether those teams also accept is another matter...
I wouldn't sign Lindholm to that (he'll also get more $$$ an term from someone else), and I imagine I'd skip signing DeMelo.

Cool. Maybe a 3rd works; but, Jarnkrok doesn't. No one is paying to help CBJ out of it's Jarmo log-jam, but nor are CBJ asking for it. Not to mention, nor is anyone paying to help TOR out of its current stagnation/cap-problems.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CakeEaterBanks</b></div><div>Yea you have whole bunch that can PK and are just cardio merchants. Jarnkrok is solid for 15 goals and can be used in all situations. This would be an easy trade for Don Waddell</div></div>
Then I am *sure* you will have no problems trading him to any number of teams. Take the ratio, move on.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CakeEaterBanks</b></div><div>Lmfao that why you trade Kent Johnson for Brady Tkachuk right. 4th overall and Kent Johnson doesn't cut Brady Tkachuk for a team that's actively trying to make the playoffs</div></div>

I'm tempted for CBJ - it just depends on how they view their draft list. If they are set on going for one of the top-D prospects, I doubt they move. If they are looking at the C/F market, I could see it.
Bonk looks like he has real T4 potential, Konencny could be great (depending on the extension he signs), and we could still get a great prospcet at 12OA.
