it was on HF boards to be fair but i spent like a week taking on wave after wave of Blues fans saying they absolutely didn't need an offensive dman. No amount of reasoning could have swayed them. I kid you not it was like 6-8 different people.

Probably. It's a tough one with Mkheyev because he is struggling so much right now. But the realty is those knee injuries take a yr of playing to get back to health. I think he's just struggling physically and will improve greatly next season. That said it's hard to not wanna get rid of him.

I think you're right that Buchnevich's return should be more because he has an extra yr but I don't know that it's much more. Do we have examples where guys with a yr and a half to go before UFA status returned way more than rental prices?
Realistically Buchnevich should return a 1st, good prospect and maybe a project, give or take another pick

Ya that's probably right. I think the Buchnevich deal is probably light and I'd consider adding Willander if that's what it took. In that case Roy would be nice.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>mokumboi</b></div><div>I'm not going to predict what it would take, because who knows? He's a great player on a cheap AAV until summer 2025, the Blues are not trying to sell him, there could be a half dozen or more teams calling and you no longer have your 24 1st or Brzzzy to offer. But I will tell you the first word Army says when Vancouver calls: "Willander".
And Willander alone won't convince him (even if maybe it almost should). So it's gonna take a lot.</div></div>
I floated Brzu and 1st as a start for Buch a month or so ago before the Lindholm trade and Blues fans ripped my head off acting suggesting they don't need offensive dmen.
But ya I would espect it'd take one of Willander or Lekerimaki. And maybe just a smaller prospect.
I'd probably give it some thought.

My biggest concern isn't with lack of production, it's with not seeing any signs that he could be good. Like he's no better than say Pius Suter out there. Indistinguishable.

I don't see him as that. He's a guy who take faceoffs well but doesn't skate well or drive play. He's had success in the past but given his age I would not want to invest long term. He'll be in the 50s this yr and it'll go down from there. Total bogie contract.

I'm not sure I'd touch him at anything over like 5.5 x 4. Guy is just such a nothing player.

Honestly my dream is to see Crosby traded to a contender and just rip the playoffs for another 4-5 yrs. Cause lets face it, if it ain't this yr for Pitt what is gonna change other than them getting even older.
Start looking at trading everything.

1. It's either completely been put off until the offseason. (Which is weird to me, if the money is right and the team is good, just sign it. But definitely still a possibility)
2. "I want to see if the team can be competitive" was an excuse.</div></div>
Oh I mean no. 2 seems far fetched. I guess it's technically possible but have we ever seen that with a Swedish player? just wants out of what looks like a decent situation? When Benning was running things I would have accepted hiim leaving it was that bad. New management seem to be doing very well though. It's 99.8% he just decided to negotiate after the season and why not? A good playoff performance and he gets more and a bad performance he gets the same.

You could also say that nothing has ever been reported to suggest he wants to leave either other than him saying he wants to win. We we are currently 1st in the league.

Yeah, he has a couple warts and is a bit streaky, but he would fit in perfect with miller and Boeser, and would win a ton of board battles</div></div>
I mean I'd give up Klimovich or a 3rd or something but Im not interested in giving up 3 assets for a guy with warts to join us for a couple months.

I just don't think you'd ever want to pay a 3rd pair dman 4 mil. And I agree someone probably will. And I like his toughness and everything but I just think thats a contract that can't really get surplus value from. There will be any number of UFAs available with that kind of money if you don't think Tanev is young enough or durable enough.

I recently realized not only do we not have to resign Zadorov but at 4 mil it just doesn't represent value. Could sign Tanev for that or less.
