Islanders have had a pick in the top 12 range a grand whooping total of 0 times since Lou has taken over the team. (not including the 2018 draft because that is the year he became the GM). GOOD ONE THOUGH!! You're takes keep getting better and better HAHAHA</div></div>
I said the isles would miss the playoffs at the beginning of last season and I said the same thing this season . Looks like my opinion will be right!
The isles used to have a good team, now they are an old an slow bunch of grinders who can’t keep up with most playoff teams.

I have no doubt Raty will be a better player than horvat by next season if he gets a chance in the NHL. Horvat is one of the biggest regression candidates.
Hoglander is actually the perfect linemate for Raty

It’s more than 4, there’s a reason why a lot of the same teams keep hitting on these guys. The isles won’t be picking in late 1st rd, for the next 5 years they’ll be in the 8-12 range.

Islanders "big time prospect" that they've traded was a 2nd round pick just two years ago. Lou has seemed to hit on multiple mid and late round picks that are producing at high level in the OHL and minor. This illusion of how highly rated mid/late firsts are is so stupid. With that being said they will not trade 2 firsts and a 4th for Chychrun.</div></div>
Some mid round firsts from 2019 draft - lundell, Jarvis , Mercer, Schneider , Holloway. Isles fans are brainwashed into thinking that drafting is a crapshoot when it’s really not. The isles just care about building the oldest and slowest roster in the nhl

I was a fan of the trade, he just lacks hockey IQ and gets walked way too often. I’m sure he’ll improve but he hasn’t been good this season.
It’s not that I think Romanov has been bad, it’s a fact. I want him to play well.

2022-23 NHL Season Discussion Thread #9: Bruce, There it Goes
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>mondo</b></div><div>I'm trying to get people to talk about what analytics/methods/things they use to determine how good a player is defensively. Feel like the conversation needs to move beyond arguing if charts are actually good or not and maybe trying to understand what the charts are saying and what their limitations are. Or when you watch the game what things you notice a player does to be good defensively.</div></div>
It’s hard for the casual fan to evaluate a players defensive impact because it’s usually things like being in good position and having your stick in lanes preventing a pass that contribute to good analytics. When you’re watching a game it’s not easy to remember every single action from a certain player. Offensive impact is a bit easier to judge from the eye test , but even then you still need to use a mix of analytics / eye test
Most Fans measure defensive impact by work ethic/hits/physicality

You know I’m not wrong. Isles have the 2nd toughest schedule remaining as well. If you can prove to me they have a good chance, I’ll admit I’m wrong. But there’s nothing out there that supports the isles making the playoffs.

Combining a couple of ideas
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hawkisles</b></div><div>Too late to make that argument. We’ve already sold off half of our farm, there’s no undoing the trade.
Also, “there’s nothing they can add to make them a playoff team”? What??? The Isles are two points behind PIT and three points behind WSH. How is this team too far gone?
Look, I don’t know if you just don’t like the Isles or are in too deep on a ridiculous opinion to back down, but I think it’s clear that you’re going to doompost on the Isles one way or another.</div></div>
Pittsburgh and Buffalo both ahead of the isles with 3 games in hand. Both are much better teams, even with horvat. When the isles miss the playoffs, I’ll come back to this thread. It isn’t much of a hot take.
How is it ridiculous? The isles have proven that they are nothing more than a .500 team over the past 2 seasons. Last season it was blamed on Covid, what’s this years excuse?
Just so we’re clear , i have said that i won’t be content until the isles rebuild. They are a terrible team with one of the worst rosters in the league. If I tried to persuade you into believing in the Arizona coyotes becoming contenders, would you believe me? No. So why would I value an opinion with rose colored glasses. There is no realistic outline for the isles to make the playoffs anytime soon

So the solution is to trade a young player for an older player who is worse - just because he’s old? Is the goal to construct the oldest roster in the NHL?

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Marcheesy</b></div><div>Look, Wahlstrom won't be the 30-40 goal scorer we once hoped. But he's going to be very cheap on the next contract and he was really developing his 2-way game more this year. We'd be selling extremely low on him rn. Let's just ride him out, hes a capable NHLer. If they just get one more top 6 wing, Wahlstrom on the 3rd line with JGP, and now you have a really solid forward core, assuming a Horvat extension</div></div>
Wahlstrom will be a 25-30 G 55-60 pt winger with a good two way impact. The “he doesn’t fit this system” equates to “he’s not scoring 30 goals in 12 min of ice time so let’s trade him for a washed up winger”

I’ve never seen anything like this isles era where fans are brainwashed into thinking that any old player is better than any young player. If we had Cole Caufield , isles fans would give him away for Corey Perry.

If we can resign Tank and Bo, that bus us at least two years of contention before we have to consider rebuilding. Besides, Wahlstrom won’t be back from injury this year anyways.</div></div>
Wahlstrom is a top 5 player on the team this season. I think these tales are from years of being brainwashed that young players aren’t reliable and can’t be trusted in key situations
That being said, I’m fine with the trade because the isles need to be humbled. Wahlstrom is already better than Tarasenko and will thrive on the blues.
You might not realize it now, but this era starting right now and through the decade will be worse than the Milbury years.
