Like Haula for the depth. Can play anywhere in bottom 6 and can be emergency top 6 player. Actually don’t feel forced to bring Bastian back

Last year Tampa Bay ran a really good line in the playoffs. It was Palat- Stamkos- Kucherov and I think we can recreate that line. We obviously have Palat and Hughes clears Stamkos at this point and while Kucherov is better than Meier, they’re both elite goal scorers

I’m in favor of breaking up that line at this point. Haven’t played bad necessarily but haven’t been as effective the past few games. To get Timo and Jack really going, I’m willing to experiment with a few different things

Definitely an option, but I like Boqvist in a 3rd line forechecking role, not a 4th line gritty role. He’s too soft to play that type of role. Here’s another idea if we want Tatar back
Meier- Hischier- Bratt
Palat- Hughes - Holtz
Tatar- Boqvist- Mercer
Haula- McLeod- Lazar

I would prefer to spend it on someone like Foligno or Acciari but I could see the Devils bringing him back if he's willing to sign for that number. 2nd longest tenured Devil, he's a good locker room guy, and he brings physicality which is something we desperately lack. If it were me, I would look elsewhere, but I could very well see something like this being the outcome

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NHLfan10506</b></div><div>4-years for Graves might be necessary. Hopefully we would ability to trade after 2.</div></div>
I would say that I want Graves for at least 2 of the 4 years on the deal, but preferably 3 of the 4. After the 3rd year, Luke will need an extension in addition to Nemec if he makes the team next year. Luke should easily be solidified as a top 4 dman at that point and a cheaper 3rd pairing dman can be brought in

Palat-Haula-Boqvist has been good, but I feel like Tatar can fill Palat’s role well just because he’s also a good forechecker. I’m more focused on getting Jack going and I think a good puck retriever like Palat will open up some chances for Jack

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>pretzelcoatl</b></div><div>Gudas yes, Haula and Graves whatever, Lemieux no. I'd rather bring back Tatar than Graves or Haula, Graves would only benefit us in the short term, and we can do a lot better than Lemieux there.</div></div>
Graves HAS to be back imo. Hopefully Luke Hughes comes in and plays like a top 4 dman right away, but there's a possibility he'll struggle out of the gate. Graves is a proven top 4 dman who we would have playing with either Bahl, Smith, Nemec, or an external option like Gudas on the 3rd pair. Haula is also a very versatile player who is a perfect 3C for our team. He's a good PKer and is great in the faceoff circle. We should be able to bring him back on a 2 year deal between 2-3m per which is well worth it. Lemieux is just a fill in on for the 4th line; I just want to bring in someone with physicality

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NHLfan10506</b></div><div>I am a big believer in rolling out one rookie at a time on defense. Bahl will be 2nd year guy, so unless Hughes jumps into top-4 from the start, I think we should be extending Graves or adding someone who has a year or two left.
So I think the 7 guys you have above works.
But if no Graves...do we trust Walsh...or a short-term UFA veteran...or do we burn a year of 23-year old Nemec on ELC to force a 19-year old Nemec into lineup?</div></div>
If no Graves, then u have to bring in a veteran UFA. Even if it was a one year deal for a guy like Kulikov, you’re gonna want someone with experience on that third pairing. Graves would be a big miss tho if he’s willing to sign a 4x4 bc he’s a solid dman with size and he’s in his prime rn. Him and Marino would expire at the same time also and by that time, you can move one or both of them when you need to pay Luke/Nemec

I think Graves will definitely be back. You can’t run out Hughes, Bahl, and Walsh. That’d be a HORRIBLE defense. I think if you don’t play Nemec, then I would do
Siegenthaler- Hamilton
Hughes- Marino
Graves- Smith/Bahl
We still have Smith under contract; I just buried him here for Nemec

What would be your d pairings then. I think that HAS to be our top 4. Get Luke rolling next year and don’t bury him with 3rd pairing minutes. Who would be graves partner

Someone will take a shot on him. Too many teams need goalies and Blackwood will probably be one of the better options simply based off age and his potential ceiling if he stays healthy

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NJDevils1317</b></div><div>No one is paying for Blackwood</div></div>
Completely untrue. He’s still a young goalie that can win games in the NHL. A team like Buffalo, LA, MTL, OTT are all teams in desperate need of goaltending. Goalies don’t come cheap and a 3rd is more than fair for Blackwood. Would BUF rather trade for a young Blackwood or run with Craig Anderson again?
