Still going to be a play off team
Kadri is huge part of the leadership group and is still a very effective player but the Flames would have absolutely no choice but to accept this deal. Especially considering that retention isn't involved.

What I Would Like To See This Off Season
Markstrom will be available at the draft without a shadow of a doubt.
If ever Jersey drops into the top ten, I would still be very interested in a deal involving Mercer.
If retention is required, both teams could also look into ironing this out. Markstrom makes a lot of sense of Jersey and a lot of Jersey's players make sense for the flames.

Trying to solve the krug problem
I get why the Blues would do it but I doesn't really make much sense for the flames.
Dropping back in the draft (almost ten spots) and giving up a solid young line forward for a few extra picks and one B+ and B- prospects doesn't seem like something Calgary should do.
We need quality prospects over quantity prospects at the moment.

What would Flames fans expect for Mangiapane
The retention makes him quite valuable.
Mangiapane at 2.9 million is an absolute steal. I would also want a first + solid prospect for him at that price.

What exactly do the Flames want from the Devils in a trade for Jacob Markstrom
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MyTeamsSuck</b></div><div>Assuming we are re tooling, we will probably pick up players with a higher ceiling than Mercer and are much younger. He’d be taking up a spot that could be used for better players</div></div>
Where are we acquiring players with a higher ceiling though.
Mercer has 60-70 point 1RW/Upper echelon 2C potential
If you can get Mercer you pull that trigger immediately especially for Marky.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MyTeamsSuck</b></div><div>Imo Zary is that guy</div></div>
There are 6 players in the top 6, Zary only takes up one spot.
Huberdeau will still be there and hopefully so will Coronato.
There is room for sure and Mercer could take up one of the available spots for the next decade.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MyTeamsSuck</b></div><div>Is Mercer really any better than someone like Zary though? To lose our #1 Star goaltender for a guy that plays maybe a little better than our rookie and can be invisible at times would honestly be a travesty. He plays with one of if not the best top 6 in the league and puts up the same amount of points as Zary. Is he good, yes, is he good enough to warrant a top 5 goalie in the league rn, no.</div></div>
It's not what we need now, it's what we need in 2-3 seasons.
If Wolf continues to dominate he should be a bonafide starter in 2-3 seasons, at that point would you rather have Mercer and Wolf or just Wolf. Markstom isn't sticking around at point anyway.
New Jersey needs a Goalie now, we need a young centre/winger with top 6 potential.

Some of the responses are crazy here.
I would accept just Mercer for sure. No additional pieces, nothing fancy and would be willing to retain.
If Jersey wanted to send back cap dumps I would want more though.

Retool - are the targets really realistic
They keep getting brought up and I have some difficulty seeing either actually being feasible.
I have especially seen deals with Bourque for Tanev lately and there has been significant chatter around Mercer and Markstom.
Seems like a pipedream.

Doubt it takes the second to be honest. Would be more 1 for 1.
I really like Bourque though so could be some bias here.

Lindholm got traded for a top prospect (recent first), Moore (dump), a first and two seconds.
The equivalent to this deal would be : Lohrei/Lysell + Forgot/Gyrz, 1st + 2 2nds.
Your trade doesn't have that value.

Look at what the Bruins paid for Lindholm, don't expect to pay any less.
Look at every defender traded recently that is in the same category as Hanifin at the deadline. Hanifin is without a doubt worth more than that.

Next year
I see the appeal for Anderson from the Sabres perspective but I don't see the need for Kuzmenko.
I also don't see how the Sabres keep all three of centres going-forward as one of the three will want more ice somewhere else and the Sabres will need to plug their holes.
If the Flames end up trading everyone than I can see a deal to he had for Ras, if they want a quick retool I can't see him getting dealt. He is too important to the team.

So just stop all that nonsense
2- and that was ONLY ONE of the reasons i gave as to why the trade simply doesn’t work for us,
and u agreed to age the age factor
Quite frankly, even if he was the best goalie in the league right now- we STILL wouldn’t trade for a guy that’s his age, & with his contract
But whatever
I’m sure u get my point, so I’m not gonna go on & on & on about it</div></div>
1. No need to be passive aggressive for nothing.
2. There is no nonsense going on here, Markstom is stealing games on a regular basis, has been the teams MVP this season and not one person who watches Calgary games on the regular would say that he isn't playing great.
3. Have a great day and hope that you can find a way to be less sour today!

His AGE makes it a “no deal” for us, regardless of the price-

I’m not saying he sucks, I’m saying he’s too old
I really don’t know how much more clear i can be</div></div>
You said he wasn't playing great, which couldn't be further from the truth.
I agree with you pertaining to the Sabres though as he doesn't fit thier window.
All immediate contenders with weak goaltending will be taking a long look at Markstrom, guy has been unreal.

Markstrom is 34 years old, not playing great, and he’s a $6mil Cap hit for 2 more years
He’s not a good target for us
And the Avs trade just doesn’t work
Besides us needing a RD, not a LD like Byram, the Avs can’t sign Mitts next year bc they don’t have the Cap Space
But even if those moves did go through,
I still don’t think they “fix” the Sabres</div></div>
Markstrom may get Vezina votes this year... Guy is having an unreal season and is really the only reason the flames are close to sniffing a playoff spot.

For the Canucks to consider this package Lindholm would have to b retained to at least 50% and have an extension in place.
