In my case, I was actually high on Cooley, not kidding. I was NOT on the Wright train. Byt for the 2023 draft, with 4 - FOUR !!!!! - solid centers in the top-4, and Habs actually having the 31st AND 37th pick, I would have put up a HUGE package (who gives a flying FFF at some point of having WAAAAAAY too many picks) and packaged the 5th, 31st, 37th AND a 3rd round pick, just to move 1, 2 or 3 spots. And then pick Fantilli, Carlson or Smith.
But that's just me.
I'm more pissed that the 2022 draft wasn't the 2023 or 2024 one in terms of talent...... Habs were picking 1st OA for the first tie in a while... and it had to come at a down year in terms of talent...</div></div>
I very much agree that the quantity vs quality approach is not in our best interests. We need a number 1 most important forward, not a bunch more 4th - 9th most important forwards.

I love what I'm seeing from Slaf the last 10 games. He's the best offensive player on the ice IMO. He has a nice shot and will start converting soon. The Habs Digest guys did a nice breakdown recently on his impact: https://youtu.be/a6o69NxV4BU?si=S_KGFyQ75GmW9GNb

I just did my lineup... and it's frankly disappointing lol
Yeah exactly, having 3 solid centers could be a first in a long time.

I'm sttill pretty pissed at the 2022 and 2023 1st round picks for the Habs................ so winning the 20024 lottery (highly unlikely, let's be honest), would be INCREDIBLE.
For that lineup though, I would have Dach at center as well.
Dach - Suzuki - Celebrini - Beck as centers.
But your lineup looks great!!
I'll do one lineup for 2025-26 following yours.

Could definitely see Suzuki making it. I tried to account for players falling off (no Bergeron, Petro, etc.), but I think most of the forwards here will still be in their primes come 2024. Completely forgot about Power, fixing that now.

It will depend on what he doesn’t next season. If he score 30 and goes over 60 points he will command nore then 5 millions on a bridge deal. Then might be better to sign him long term if the avv is good or sign him on a 4 years bridge deal to maximize is contract before he get the big juicy one. Then Se will vet off the hook Price money, Gallagher will have 2 years left and Habs could afford to trade him. Futur is pretty exciting. We didn’t have much reason to be optimistic in the past 25 years. They finally looking to go i. The right direction go habs go !!

A players worth isn't based on your opinion, or the opinion of analytics nerds who have never set foot on the ice and played an actual NHL game. It's based on how much value he brings to the team that wants/acquires him. You let me know when you get a chance to be net front and theres a guy like chiarot across from you doing his darnedest to try and snuff you out how it goes.

Gotta love it...considering that Duchene/Panarin/Bob/whoever else walked without Columbus getting a dime, somehow two-ish years later he's going to have what could easily be one of the top farm systems in the league. Imagine if he snags Nemec? D-Core set for the next 5+ years.

Habs likely can't flip Ristolainen if they are also retaining on Petry. Nor will they be likely to retain on Petry.
This would indeed be an off season trade, after Petry has shown the first half of this season was an anomaly.
Montreal would prefer taking Frost, Ristolainen, and retention out of the deal. It's still possible with Frost in place of the 1st. (We are assuming lottery protection if the 1st is involved.)
Either option is worthy of consideration.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>palhal</b></div><div>The bigger question is whether Petry is gonna be worth 5m for three full years? Flyers probably feel they can keep those young assets and spend 5m on UFA next season instead of obtaining Petry.</div></div>
The RHD market isn't promising. Letang likely isn't going to Philly. Klingberg will cost more in money and term. The rest will be cheaper but most are less effective players in general.
If I could go back and trade Poehling and a 3rd for a top 4 RHD instead of signing Savard, I wouldn't even hesitate.

Philly fans
I’d say this would be more of an offseason deal. There’s no urgency for Montreal to move Petry, nor for Philly to acquire him, they’re not going to the playoffs this year. Let him continue this run of good play under St. Louis and boost his value, and Montreal doesn’t really have anybody who can fill these defence spots if they were to trade him on top of Chiarot and Kulak. Also lets Philly keep whatever return they can get for risto. And lets remember here, fletcher traded the 14th overall pick and a second round pick for one year of a defencemen who has been terrible his entire career. A first plus frost for a player with term who has a history of being a high end top four d-man on an affordable contract (ristolainen is asking for 6.5+)
