Kent Johnson to the habs

So I'm agreeing that MTL can be delusional but asking for Guhle and a top 10 pick for a player that's showed nothing incredible + is hurt + is a draft pick from the old defunct GM + is not on the good side of his Coach is also kinda delusional
Not saying you have to trade him but let's not pretend he's still worth a 5th overall pick here.</div></div>
Guhle is already a #1 RD, but he is playing on his off side and still there. Once Matheson is gone, maybe sooner, he will be #1 LD and step up another level. Eventually Reinbacher or Mailoux will be paired with him.

I would rather this - if any. I really like the potetnial of Hutson in the NHL - but Guhle is thrown around on these board as a B or B- trade piece. He just turned 22 - and is improving daily. He is underrated by so many, and that is not saying Habs fans do not appreciate him, but he never got sent to Laval once since starting in the league as a 19 year old. He is the top pairing LD of the future - even with the stacked cupboard in the position.

Only if the Sharks win the Lottery. Hoffman and Carpenter are both off contract this year (plus the Habs do not need sub-par fwds in their 30s anyways)

Dillon will not be under contract for the 24-25 season.
Barlow and a 2nd likely does not get this done. Modification - replace Barlow with McGroarty, remove the 2nd to the Habs - and the Habs send back the Jet's first plus a 2nd, maybe another piece.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BoomerTheHero</b></div><div>Jackets easily pass. Late 1sts arent going to get it done. You have to give to get and you arent giving the same value that you are getting. MTL's 1st or a top prospect would have to be included for KJ. For Dumais you would need a similar level prospect, i doubt picks would get it done, but more than likely the team wants to keep Dumais, as teams usually believe in their prospects more than other teams do, so i doubt there would be an agreement on value.</div></div>
I probably valued Dumais lower due to the recent impaired driving charge. Montreal/Laval may not be the best destination for him anyways.

I would not trade Guhle for Mercer 1 for 1. It would haunt the Habs the same was Sergachev trade does or the McDonough trade did for years.

So this improves the Leafs situation by having over $67 million tied up with 6 players instead of $46.5 million tied up with 4 players??
This would leave $20 million for the remaining 17 players (anticipating $87.7 cap) - so 6 superstars and 17 plugs with aav of $1.17 million per year.
There would be a lot of 9-8 losses.

I am not defending the proposal of the OP, but am stating the reason why I would not touch your counter offers. Slafkovsky has more value years before his prime than Zegras will in his prime. Nobody in the right mind would think Zegras for Slafkovsky 1-for-1 would be a reasonable trade for the Habs. Habs need help up front, but I would never pay those prices for Zegras.

If you want Zegras, it takes a blue chip asset to center the trade. That's MTLs 24 1st + Beck level prospect, Reinbacher + MTLs 25 2nd, or Slafkovsky straight up.</div></div>
"MTLs 24 1st + Beck level prospect" - if habs can get either Lindstrom, Catton, Iginla, or Eiserman; they could keep Beck and have a more rounded fwd (or around the same level fwd) for the future.
"Reinbacher + MTLs 25 2nd" - If the Habs traded away another young D who turned into McDonough or Sergachev, there would be riots - I think they will let him mature a bit to see what he can do in the NA game.
Slafkovsy has shown us what he is growing into (10G 14A in 32 games in calendar 2024 and not even 20 yet (plus the rest of his all around play in noticable). He looks very promising. If Slafkovsy was in a deal, the Ducks would realistically reed to include additional assets.

Vlasic is top 5 in the NHL in the defensive zone this year playing on the first line and is a rookie. Couple that with Korchinski and the Hawks are set on the top 2 lines on the left side. Then they have 3 or 4 prospects on the left battling it out for a future 3rd line spot and 2 of which are for sure locks to play in the NHL.</div></div>

I see Celebrini #1 OA regardless.
On this ranking, there are 4 fwds ahead of Iginla.
I don't see the following teams select a D unless there is a no brainer there -- Habs , Sens, Sabres, Devils. This could dry up the available forwards.
Realitistically, the Flames would be better off taking the best available D if there are a few better ones that drop to their pick.

74.5% chance that last place does not get pick #1. In Fact, there is a 55.7% last place gets #3 OA.

Maybe if they could sell more than 5000 tickets in a game, and he re-signed for at least another season or 2.
Too late in Crosby's career for him to be the "Wayne Gretzky" of the desert.
