Hughes
im sure others will say this as well but that never stopped me before; morgan rielly is like a carbon copy of quinn hughes, he is the opposite of what the leafs need on defense, AND he plays the wrong side. if anything toronto should be looking to grab a right handed defenseman who is ELITE defensively to play with black ho' mo. im a strong proponent of switching rielly and marner at least to see what happens (marner is better defensively and mo can surely hold his own as a winger) & maybe then this makes sense but even in that case paying this much (cap hit AND assets) for what would end up being your second pair LD is a little crazy for a team in TOR's cap sitch. blowing off all the assets is also iffy considering the future of this team five years down the road is a big ? there is no guarantee that he leaves but AM34 to ARI (or anywhere else) is a real possibility & with the cap hardly going up this offseason bunting & sammy have effectively priced themselves out of this city barring a gio style team friendly deal. WIlly is also up for a big raise sooner rather than later & gio wont be on league min forever. i could go on and on but i think everyone gets the point lol basically they should do the opposite of this IMO.

But this is my opinion in January</div></div>
for me the only givens are bedsy and fantilli at 1 & 2 but from 3-5 could be any combination of carlsson benson and michkov. personally theyre in that order. sixth is cristall then seven ASP and eighth is where it starts to open up. for me sale and smith round out my top ten.

if smith goes fifth i will **** myself he is like 8th best at the absolute highest. also we are picking lower than fifth right now and nobody below us is gonna wave the wand and go on a winning streak. barring a draft lottery miracle we are gonna pick like sixth overall.

good value for chychrun, if holland could pull that one off it would redeem him as GM for sure. one thing though, why send him to Bakersfield? i mean he isn't in the lineup so i assume thats what you've done with him but i guess there's no real way to know. crazy.

justin braun is a bit of a headscratch as is toews as far as making the wild a better hockey team is concerned but i mean the trade value looks fine in these deals. LA doesnt need dumba not even one bit, if anything it'll be stupid old kenny holland that laps him up like a dog slurping out of a puddle of mud and piss.

The team is obviously terrible being in last place, but McCabe's still managed to be a PLUS 6 on the season. I fully understand +/- isn't the best indicator, but it's a signal that people so take a closer look. He's been outstanding.</div></div>
how i wish i could send this to everybody that's told me how awful he is. if he came to toronto and played like this they'd scream and cry until he won the norris

moving rielly to W
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Byrr</b></div><div>I feel like that's a 'who are we comparing their shots to' example. Hyman is the one I'm most familiar with since he's a former Leafs so I'll use him. He may not have the shot of a Nylander or Matthews but he's still leagues ahead of the Kerfoots, Kampfs and Engvalls of the world.</div></div>
hyman definitely has the best shot of the group, danault by far the worst IMO but all the players have in common the fact that they each have a specialty be it playmaking, great mobility, strong hand-eye & high motor, or defensive prowess. i think rielly is no different in this regard, his specialty is his passing and skating which make him a threat on the rush and on the cycle. thats what puts him above kerfoot for me who IMO doesnt do anything at a top six level and is more of the ideal third liner, i probably shouldve actually changed the lines i suppose.

moving rielly to W
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Byrr</b></div><div>Rielly isn't a winger. The thing you need to do to play top 6 minutes on the wing is shoot the puck. We criticize some top 6 wingers for not being able to do so but really thats in comparison to other top 6ers. A shot is what really seperates a bottom 6 winger from a top 6. With Rielly's shot, he's much closer to a Kerfoot (who also shouldn't be top 6 here) than he is a Nylander, Marner or Bunting.</div></div>
you're right about the shot but i also think that there are other factors that can tip the scale as well in regards to the difference between top and bottom six usage. rielly is a top six level playmaker in the NHL, thats what gets him up on the second line. certainly not the defense or shot. also important to remember guys like Nic Dowd, Phil Danault, Mikael Backlund & even Hyman who are all top six mainstays and have been for a while but absolutely cannot sling it.
