Bounce back
Hoping Backlund stays and wins the cup with CGY
No way to that 4th line. Ritchie is a Defensive & Penalty Taking Liability, Nosek isn’t anything special and Hathaway will be 32 in Nov, so unless he’s going to play LW for $1-1.5mil/yr x 1-2 yrs, there’s better options, including Duehr at 4RW

How I would fix the cap issue
Vladar is worth the equivalent of a 2nd (or 3rd + ?/3rd + ?/5th)
I really like Niederreiter, but he’s inconsistent and a 0.50PPG Player. Mang, Coleman and Dube are all Better, so I don’t see the need or fit
Rooney is a Trade Filler, Future Considerations, Waiver Claim, otherwise we’ll just pay to bury him. We will need a 4C/LW to replace Lucic & Lewis still, but I’m definitely hoping for a better option than Rooney there too
Been there, Done that with Leivo, so wouldn’t bring him back and Glendening seems like he’s done. He might make a good 4C or 13th/14th Forward, but then again why not just bring back PK Specialist Trevor Lewis over both those guys for $775-825k!?

Draft Day
As a Flames Fan, neither of these Trades interest me at all
Jokiharju, Comrie and Zadina just aren’t guys I’d want on the Team
I’d only want Olofsson if he came 50% retained and Veleno for Vladar or Ruzicka or a couple Mid-Picks or B Prospects (MEP + Pospisil)
Only reason I’d move Ruzicka for Veleno is because he’d be a Better & More Physical 4C, otherwise Ruzicka looks to be Much Better Offensively and has a Higher Ceiling with Top-6 Potential

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>squashmaple</b></div><div>None of us are saying Boqvist is better. Hanifin is not a first pairing defenseman, and even those rarely get the haul you’re asking for, especially as rentals. But if Hanifin is worth the haul you think he is, then Boqvist is easily worth at least a first himself. Of course, the fact you think Bemstrom, Bean, and Olivier have any value shows you have no idea how to value players.</div></div>
Hanifin is definitely a 1st Pairing D-Man and is worth what ANA fetched for Hampus Lindholm, except he came as a Pending Free Agent and CGY won’t take a Cap Dump
This proposal has Hanifin extended @ $6.8mx8yrs contract
You still didn’t explain how Boqvist is worth much after my points over his defensive liability and lack of reliability
Bemstrom was Waiver Bait a few months back. He doesn’t hold much value, but Olivier does, especially to CLB Fans. They’re just throw ins that fill needs
And Bean is worth a 3rd

How do you figure!?
Hanifin is substantially better and worth more than Boqvist. He’s Better in all facets of the game, Kills Penalties and is Reliable, playing full seasons. Boqvist is both a defensive liability as well as injury prone

IF Hanifin is Traded he should fetch a 1st + 2nd + 3rd + Roster Player
Boqvist is worth a 2nd and Jake Bean is worth a 3rd, so add Bemstrom or Olivier and we have a deal
I’d take Peeke over Boqvist personally as well. CGY’ll need to replace Tanev with another Shut Down Penalty Killer and Peeke is Bigger and More Physical. Boqvist is weak defensively and has trouble staying healthy enough to play a full season

That Trade would make CGY worse. Why would they do that!?
I don’t mind Olofsson, but he’s not worth losing Zadorov
There’s a reason a lot of BUF Trade Scenarios on here have Olofsson being moved, but not very many CGY Trade Scenarios involve moving Big-Z out

Rasmussen and Copp both play wing. If I recall, Rasmussen was actually very good as a winger.</div></div>
I’d be putting Veleno on the Wing before Copp or Rasmussen who are definitely both Centres, but any Centre should be able to play the wing too

Kasper will be our 2C if he hits his peak. Mazur + Kasper would be a literal ball busting line.</div></div>
Veleno isn’t Waivers Exempt, so would be Claimed
You have Copp & Rasmussen for 3&4C if Rossi takes 2C

We won’t be keeping him. We’ll get our 2nd or 3rd + a 4C for him. ARI could send McBain for him and have a Czech tandem or we can send him to OTT for Kastelic + a 3rd

CGY couldn’t move Valimaki or Mackey for anything last off-season and lost Valimaki via Waivers, so we’d likely be able to pick up Timmins or Holloway for less than a 3rd or off Waivers too

What are you talking about. Sv% isn’t everything. Look at his GAA and Record. He wins 65% of the Games he starts
He’s comparable to Vanecek, Nedeljkovic, Georgiev and Aidan Hill when there were Traded last off-season and the season prior
He has a contract at $2.2 vs. The $3-3.4mil Nedeljkovic Vanecek & Georgiev received and on par with what Aidan Hill received
That’s what 1B/Future Starters his age get = a 2nd (or it’s equivalent, like a 3rd + Bernier OR a 3rd + 3rd + 5th, etc.)

I don’t mind Foote or Walsh, but they’re not NHL Players and are no longer waivers exempt, so if they don’t make the Roster out of Training Camp and get Claimed off Waivers, we’re left with a 4th round Draft Pick for one of the Best Shut Down Defensemen in the League…
Surely you understand CGY wouldn’t be interested and that neither Foote or Walsh are worth near what they were Drafted for. They might become NHL Players one day and decent ones at that, but right now they’re considered Fringe NHL’ers or Plugs

Calling him just another Huberdeau is a bit blunt as they are different players. However they are both pass first guys making over 10M and neither plays center. That is just poor cap structure</div></div>
As always, I take your opinion highly Ledge
I agree investing down the middle and being strong there is more important than the wing

Vladar would be the 1B and competing to take over the Starting Role over Husso for sure
Cossa likely needs another two years to be NHL ready anyways
