2024 starting lineup
Pass on both Brodie & Dumba unless they come for super cheap to play 3RD and Kill Penalties, like $1.5mil/yr cheap
Wolf will likely get more and I’m of the opinion Kylington should only get what Miromanov just got = $1.25mil/yr. I like Kylington and hope he stays healthy, but he’s still too risky and hasn’t done enough to justify getting anywhere near the same contract he did after that one-off breakout season he’s had so far
I can’t see Markstrom being with the Flames to start next season and would like to see Greer come back. Rather have the Younger, Bigger and More Physical Ohktiuk & Solovyov back over Hanley too. If we could get a guy like Ryan Graves, he’d be an ideal Flame imo
I see at least one or two of Mangiapane, Kuzmenko, Coleman or Sharangovich moving on depending on how well they play, contract extension talks and how well Zary, Pospisil, Coronato & Pelletier play next season as well

Would need 50% retention for a 7th
Doesn’t make much sense to move Howden and then sign Blackwood though. I’d just keep Howden myself

Offseason
I’m not opposed to giving Home Town Howden an opportunity in CGY, but I don’t see why we would have to part with assets to acquire him. He’d come for Future Considerations or very possibly VGK paying CGY something to take on his $1.9mil Cap Hit for the season instead

Right! Flames could use another Centre and Vegas has quite a few options that could be made available and/or perhaps Chandler Stephenson can be signed via Free Agency

Vegas Golden Knights signed Noah Hanifin (8 Years / $7,350,000 AAV)
I figured Hanifin would want to be in the East, but how long will BOS & TBL remain competitive. NJD, NYR & FLA would have been interesting destinations for him too, but VEG paid a decent price to acquire him, are very competitive and have aging Defensemen/Martinez to replace, so this just makes sense
As for the $$$, I wanted him extended in CGY for $6.25-6.75mil/yr last year, but he played well in his contract year and was apparently offered $7.5mil/yr by Conroy… $7.35 seems reasonable given his age and the fact he’s not an Elite $9-10mil/yr+ Player like Josi and he’ll definitely make more in Vegas after taxes than he would have in CGY

These are all brutal trades for the Flames, except the Vladar Trade
Any team retaining anything on Huberdeau, let alone 50% of his Cap Hit, is quite simply unrealistic

Question for Calgary Fans
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Haymaker26</b></div><div>You want Graves over Pettersson?</div></div>
Yes, I personally like Ryan Graves and think he'd be the better fit in Calgary and matches our style the most, but his Cap Hit and the fact he has term is really what seals the deal
Pettersson could just leave after 1 season and/or may want a bigger Cap Hit, so yeah, I'm pro Ryan Graves if given the choice between the two. Not sure I'd pay TWO 2nds though, I'd try to see if PIT wants the Cap Space back and see if we could pick him up for much less

We’d just re-sign Kylington and/or a Free Agent and save the assets
Ryan Graves would be of interest though and has term at least

The 3rd year of Rebuilding the Original 6 Habs
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>habitantlecolon</b></div><div>How much would you think he'll be asking for next contract? 5.5 or more?</div></div>
$4-6mil. Gotta wonder and question if this season was a one off where he was given opportunities he wouldn’t be afforded otherwise or if he’s coming in to his own. He’s got a great shot and amazing stick handling skills when no defenders are around. That’s for sure

Flames might be interested in Kastelic for a late pick or Walker Duehr, but they’re certainly not retaining on Coleman AND sending a 2nd for Batherson
I don’t think they’d even Trade Coleman for Batherson straight up. Batherson can score, but I don’t know that he can defend very well, whereas Coleman does it all

Offseason with signings
Not sure Pelletier or Wolf have done enough just yet to deserve that much $$$
Kylington should re-up for no more than what his current contract is and I personally think he should give the Flames a discount given his history
Bean shouldn’t be making any more than Kylington and would be in direct competition with him for a roster spot
Greer’s an $800-925k replacement level player, but I do like the idea of re-signing him
Not exactly sure why we’d be trading Mangiapane just yet, but I guess with so many Winger additions (Sharangovich, Zary, Pospisil, Pelletier, Coronato and Kuzmenko) it’ll be a competition and somebody’s gonna eventually get moved I guess. Not sure how much he would fetch or who’d be interested tbh
Markstrom isn’t worth that much without retention and I don’t know that NJD will be interested in Markstrom, let alone parting with Holtz, especially after losing Toffoli
Jake Bean shouldn’t cost more than a mid-to-late 3rd, if that, exactly like we paid to acquire Zadorov and if we’re paying that, Jordan Harris is another guy who might be even better
Okhotiuk should be on that roster too and Schwindt, Klapka, Damiani, Kuznetsov, Solovyov and Lyle should all be qualified and extended as well

I don’t agree with moving Coleman from RW given the season he’s having though. I wonder what this would look like though:
