Matthews is one of the best hockey talents in the world, but he's also a rental until proven otherwise. I can't see Seattle gutting their roster and trading two cornerstones of the franchise for a rental, no matter how good he is.

Drastic measures
Seattle is going to say no to your trade proposal. Dunn is the Kraken's top defenseman, and trading him would open up a massive void on the blue line that the Kraken can't realistically fill. That trade package wouldn't entice them anyway; except for Hartman there isn't a ton of value there, and nothing that Seattle really needs. They need Dunn far more than they need more depth forwards. Vince Dunn will be sticking around in Seattle for years to come.

One more run
That's going to be a no from Seattle. Evans is their LD of the future, they're not trading him along with a 2nd rounder for a rental at the same position. What will more likely happen is the Kraken will acquire a veteran stopgap to hold down the fort and ease Evans into a full-time NHL role.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>evelutions2</b></div><div>Just a couple of criticisms from me. You are overpaying for Vladar, no matter what Flames fans are saying. He is a career sub .900 goalie who shouldn’t fetch more than a 5th. The move for Forbort is definitely a good one. As for Sprong, I hope he ends up on the Canes, but a 2nd that is a borderline first is a bit much, don’t you think. Not terrible though.</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JuanDamienNebraska</b></div><div>Finally another take on Vladar based in realism. I have been adamant that he is worth no more than a 4th, but Flames fans, because they spent a 3rd to acquire him, refuse to accept anything less than what they spent. As if it is the job of other GM’s to right their GM’s miscalculations. Not to mention how obvious it is that Calgary wants to move him. Leverage exists. With that being said, based only on SEA’s stockpile of picks, I assume I could see them forking over a third for a younger backup. It wouldn’t be the end of the world.</div></div>
Appreciate the feedback!

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JuanDamienNebraska</b></div><div>Well done. My only rebuttal may be that Dunn may get paid in the 7’s. I realize that under this model you are assuming that Wright plays the year in the AHL, but I think he very well could crack the line up in a 3C role. Either way, for insurance, I’d still hang onto Wennberg because his money will soon go to Beniers and can’t be tied up past this year anyways. Also, what’s the deal with Dreidger? Likely done in the league? I haven’t heard his name in quite a while.</div></div>
Driedger tore his ACL playing for Team Canada last summer. By the time he was ready to return in mid-February, the Kraken were in the middle of a playoff race, so they sent him down to the AHL to get back into game shape. Since then he's played for the Firebirds, backing up Joey Daccord and posting a .908 Sv% and 2.61 GAA in 14 games. Driedger could force his way into the backup goalie picture for Seattle next year, but he's just a bit of an unknown right now.

Rebuild a little
I believe this is a three team trade scenario that doesn't work for any of the teams involved. Seattle has no business trading two capable defensemen for one when they are trying to shore up that area of the team. San Jose will be looking for a more futures based return for Karlsson, and Buffalo won't be retaining that much money for that long for just a 3rd round pick.
Similarly, offer-sheeting Dunn for 1 year at below market value that walks him to UFA status does nothing for him, the Sabres, or the Kraken. Vince Dunn will be sticking around in Seattle for years to come.

Marner To Seattle
While I'm partial to the idea of a Marner-to-Seattle trade, Dunn isn't going to be involved. The Kraken are already looking to augment their defense, not subtract from it, and trading Dunn would create a massive hole on the blue line that would be borderline impossible to fill. Replacing him with some draft capital would make this trade framework more workable for Seattle.

Cap Dumps to Consider
Driedger probably is a cap dump right now, given that he's recently returned from injury and hasn't played in the NHL in a year. That being said, Seattle has enough cap flexibility at the moment where they don't really need to dump him. That could change depending on their offseason moves, but right now they're better off keeping the 2nd to build up their prospect pool and seeing if Driedger can work his way back into the goalie picture for the Kraken.

Keeping the Desert Dream Alive
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>palhal</b></div><div>Forbert has a M NTC and you can be sure Arizona isn't on trade list.
I kinda disagree with your analysis. There are not enough PAYING fans...who actually attend games to make a franchise in Arizona viable.
Don't think I'm centring out the Arizona fans that actually go to games, but there just isn't enough of them. I feel the same way about when folks talk about a franchise going back to Quebec City. IMO thre isn't enough fans or business in Quebec City that could sustain an NHL franchise long term.</div></div>
Part of the problem with attendance figures is that Arizona plays in ASU's hockey arena right now, which has a capacity of around 5000. Naturally the lower amount of seating leads to lower ticket revenues. That's why getting the Coyotes a viable arena is of such critical importance. Right now the rumor is that Suns owner Mat Ishbia is looking at buying the Yotes and having them play in the Suns' arena, which is much larger. I think finding a permanent larger home will do wonders with attendance figures and revenue. What will also help: fielding a competitive team with future promise. The Phoenix area is the 10th largest by population in the US; the potential to sustain the Coyotes franchise is there.
As for Forbort, his M-NTC is just a 3 team list. It's entirely possible Arizona is one of those teams, and if that's the case, so be it. The Coyotes will have to patch their defense another way. But you never know.

I'm with you I think Tye Kartye should get a look but I'm unsure if they'd want to subject him to 4th line duties considering where he was slotted in the playoffs. Only time will tell, but I agree he should be an NHL player next year.</div></div>
Seattle's an interesting case in that, thanks to their depth, their "fourth line" isn't a fourth line in the traditional sense. It was oftentimes a source of offense, with guys like Sprong being real contributors on that end. I think Kartye is good enough on both ends of the ice to handle whatever role the Kraken give him, but as you said time will tell.

Most of these moves look good from my point of view and pretty representative of the more low-key offseason I expect the Kraken to have. I probably wouldn't sign Craig Smith and just roll with Tye Kartye in that last winger spot, and I think the Kraken could take advantage of Boston's cap crunch and get Forbort for free/future considerations. I would also see if Sprong could return a higher pick instead of a couple of mid-round picks, but we'll see what happens, if he even departs Seattle at all.
Overall though, nicely done.

Idea for a blockbuster with OTT from csick
Seattle politely declines your trade offer. Vince Dunn isn't getting moved, he's their top defenseman coming off a breakout season for a contending team and is primed for a long-term extension that will easily top $4.75M per year. Replacing what he provides for the Kraken would be borderline impossible. For a team looking to win, downgrading from Dunn to POJ in exchange for a couple of pieces who won't help the team win for a couple of years at least isn't worth it.

Dismantling a Dynasty
The Kraken say "thanks, but no thanks." They already have Larsson, Borgen, and Schultz holding down the right side of the defense and don't need a 35 year old RHD who was mediocre last season and has a cap hit higher than anyone currently on the team. I'm sure they'd much rather hang onto a still-improving younger center in Geekie and the draft capital to help build up their prospect pool rather than trade those assets for Petry.

Nylanders trade value
I don't know if Toronto will be able to return a 1B or 2A center for Nylander. Depending on your definition there really aren't that many of those guys out there, and the teams that have them probably aren't super eager to give them up. It's also difficult to base any Nylander trade on him signing an extension with his new team; at the end of the day we don't know if he's willing to negotiate an extension or not.
From Seattle's perspective they really don't have that ready-made premier 1B/2A center you're seeking (again, depending on your definition). However, they are pretty deep in forwards, though that depth is greater on the wings than down the middle. If Toronto wants to deepen their team by turning Nylander into a couple of good but lower wattage forwards, Seattle could make a good trade partner. A hypothetical return package from them would likely include one or two Kraken forwards, with maybe some draft capital going one way or the other to balance things out depending on the players involved.

That might work. I mainly put the condition in to hedge against Edmundson getting injured, but the extra cap space afforded by Montreal retaining $1.5M might just be worth removing it. Whether Seattle ends up needing that cap room will depend on how much their RFAs sign for, which will in turn dictate which version of the deal they prefer.

Getting Younger and Keeping the Core
Depending on the trade value chart you use, the gap between 14th and 20th is Toronto's 2nd (57th) or Seattle's 3rd (84th), not Winnipeg's 2nd (50th). But even if the value is right, Seattle's not giving up Borgen just to move up a few spots in the draft. His on-ice contributions and importance to the team exceeds whatever return he'd fetch in a trade.

Control the Inevtiable
If Miller is such a liability on defense, I doubt Seattle will be willing to give up Wright for him. If they are going to make a defensive upgrade, I think they'll target a more complete and reliable player, and at a price tag that doesn't involve Wright. Otherwise, they're probably looking at a veteran stopgap until Ryker Evans is ready for a full-time spot on the blue line.

Seattle Fans Read Desc
There's a couple of reasons.
The first is Soucy's performance. Last season, he was excellent, prompting the front office to reject trade offers for him. The idea was that he would perform at that level again this year and that hasn't been the case. Don't get me wrong, he was still solid defensively and chipped in on offense occasionally, but he had a penchant for taking ill-timed penalties every so often that really hurt the team. Since he played on the penalty kill this was not ideal. Team defense is an area the Kraken may be looking to upgrade this offseason, and Soucy's spot makes the most sense to do so, to find someone a bit more consistently reliable.
The second reason is more of a numbers game. Dunn and Oleksiak are locked in on the left side, so Soucy would have to go elsewhere to receive the pay raise and larger role he is due. Not to mention, the Kraken's top defensive prospect, Ryker Evans, is just about NHL ready. The team will need to have a spot for him to slot into the lineup in the near future.
Overall, the consensus among Kraken fans seems to be that Soucy will be departing in free agency, and the Kraken will either bring in a reliable veteran stopgap at LD until Evans is ready, or look to make a serious upgrade at the position.

Any way Montreal can get a first for a cap dump like Monahan
Looking at the teams in the 10-20 range, I can't see any of them giving up their pick to just dump a contract, especially not in such a deep draft. Considering the weak free agent market and stronger trade market, I think if a team trades their first round pick this year, it's to acquire an impact player, not to simply shed salary.

A guide to those creating ACGM trades with the Kraken
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>LivingAnew</b></div><div>What about Wennberg and Driedger as "cap dumps" to the Hawks, who need to re-stock their system? What would you consider as fair compensation in the form of picks in exchange for "future considerations?"
Dunno if the Hawks are interested, but they (the Hawks) have room to take a flier on players in exchange for picks, and figure out what to do with them later - including, if things went well, flipping them with retention for more picks at the TDL.
Cheers</div></div>
I think Wennberg actually has positive value. Granted, it's not much, but if Seattle were to trade him they could probably get a mid-round pick or the equivalent from a team looking for a veteran middle-six center. I don't think that team would be Chicago though, they're not at the stage where they're going to be trading draft picks for veterans.
Dreidger, on the other hand, is a cap dump right now from my point of view. The Kraken have enough cap flexibility at the moment where they don't have to move him, but depending on their offseason moves that could change. In that scenario, I think sending Driedger and a 2024 3rd for Future Considerations would be reasonable.

Given Seattle's flexible cap situation, I think they would match an offer sheet on Geekie, but that would probably depend on the specifics of the contract offered and whether the front office feels Geekie is a long term fit for the team.

Not necessarily. Wright and Kartye might need more time in the AHL to develop. If one or both are ready the Kraken can figure it out then. Personally I feel like McCann is the last winger that should be moved; if anyone gets traded this offseason I think Sprong might be the one who departs. He had a great season but got scratched a few times and is due a decent raise, so the team might decide to sell high on him. We'll see how it all plays out.

Sure, the Kraken have a lot of winger options at the moment, but not all those guys will be around forever. Eberle's contract runs out after next season and Schwartz has struggled with injuries and is on the wrong side of 30. I'd rather keep McCann because he'll be a meaningful contributor for many years to come and $5M for what he brings is a bargain. Plus, having a lot of good depth is never a bad thing.
