No Big Acquisitions Yet Watch and Wait for 2025 Off-Season
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JK74</b></div><div>Gignac and Norlinder would be of zero interest to Chicago and Ylönen is just a guy at this point that'll never crack a legit top six. So essentially the trade is Dach for a 2nd and 5th which seems decent value. Chicago is high on him but he has the same issues his brother has with staying healthy. When he is healthy though he's a very effective power forward. I don't hate this trade minus the three players headed Chicago's way but I think they decline in hopes that Dach can stay healthy.</div></div>
Yeah, these kind of quality vs quantity trades don’t occur with prospects like Dach. Theres not many comparables, and obviously the jabs fans want him because his last name is Dach, but if they want him I’m going to stick with an overpayment price of a first round pick.
For the record I think Colton Dach will be a better pro than Kirby Dach, not as skilled, but more effective in what is likely a middle six role. I think he makes the team next year on a third line role.

I understand you probably don’t want to jinx them, but don’t be a coward. Do they win the cup, or what round do they stop?

Yeah. Probably not.
If they did it would be cap circumvention. Probably shouldn’t have randomly tact that on at the end.
Since you are here, what are you expecting the leafs to do? My bracket says rd 2 is as far as they go.

Since he is not totally useless I think Leaf’s could get a bit of a discount on that price so I would offer the following if I was Davidson:
To Chicago: either Toronto’s 2024 or 2026 1st round pick with top 10 protection (Toronto’s choice) and Kämpf.
To Toronto: they get their own 2026 2nd round pick back.</div></div>
Nah, give them the VAN 2nd this year and keep the 26 pick.

This is the best we can offer you I am afraid. If you would not like to play with high value pieces, then don’t sign high value contracts for 4th liners.

We have a real dead cap problem

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NucksnOilers</b></div><div>Lmao I mean not at all. As mentioned in my post Edmonton has a ton of valuable assets who are playing well well above their pay grade that make us a successful team, we also have a ton of underrated depth who have done exactly as they are paid to do (Perry, Brown, Mcleod). We just have 4-5 guys who are paid too much and the only reason we have had the success we have had with their contracts is due to those other guys. We lost to the cup champs in back to back years, been a consistent top 8 team in the league the past 5 years and gave the Stanley cup champions their best series last year. To say we have a "skill issue" as a team or are going to be disappointments against (even if we do exit early it's not like the past 2 years have been for nothing). This team has tons of great things about it, there are just 3-5 glaring mistakes that need to be fixed if we want to be cup champs</div></div>
I thought it was an obvious reverse jinx, I guess I forgot this was the internet.
Anyways, <a href="/users/Shaun80" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">@Shaun80</a> they are not playing the kings, the are playing Vegas in all likelihood. Tounge out of cheek I don’t like that matchup for them.

Free JT
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SociallyHawkward</b></div><div>I think it'd be pretty hard for the hawks at this point in the rebuild to extend a player like Tavares who isn't declining as rapidly as guys like foligno. He still has a few good years left to help a team like Colorado or Boston etc.. win a cup on a team friendly deal.</div></div>
I think the hawks will be on the upswing sooner than many expect, and while you are correct in making that point for Tavares sake, I would let the chips fall where they may, so to speak, after making a low risk move like this. Foligno was brought in for leadership, but bought into the rebuild and signed a two year extension to see it through. Tavares probably won’t be a Blackhawk under these circumstances, but if he was able to then I believe the leadership group could convince him to see it through.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SociallyHawkward</b></div><div>I'd argue 1 year of Tavares in the locker room < the return a half retained Tavares can command.</div></div>
That’s probably true, but I think the return would be severely limited by contextual factors. This would include double retention and/or taking an unwanted contract back from the acquiring team. From that perspective it’s hard for me to agree because the evaluation of the value could be lost due to those factors. If the hawks got Tavares and extended him then I believe the locker room impact might be greater.

If we are dismissing the JT islanders free agency nonsense as a factor, Tavares would be an excellent locker room guy, his game translates well with what we need, and Chicago would be one of the only teams able to offer this flexibility for the leafs.
So yes, flexibility is at the crux of the post… but I think the leafs trading JT away for future considerations would be idiotic.

We are already talking so I’ll skip naming the centers request.
Also, a purely hypothetical question for no particular reason.
Would you rather have Connor Bedard on your team, or a 20 pt player who has 75% faceoff win rate?
You seem to really like faceoff wins, so I think it’s a relevant question.

On a real note it’s probably not great for the culture to be other teams dumping grounds. At least you can control the type of person you bring in FA.

Not a bad projection at all. Of course there are some things I would do differently with unrestricted free agents and RFA contracts, but a solid projection if the hawks goals are to plug holes short term.
I like the Arvidsson signing for what it is worth
I dislike the Martinez signing
I would go longer term with Vlasic since we can afford higher AAV right now.
I would think Lukas Reichel gets a 1 year deal.
There are some ideas here that I think should be corrected
- Lindstrom will need time to develop before playing in the NHL
-Nazar will likely spend a year in he minors
-If the hawks sign a free agent D it will likely be a RD who can help develop Korchinsky.
-The hawks will probably not bring in a goalie unless they move on from Arvid.
