Fixing some problems
Pretty easy decline by the Habs. Kovy’s giving them good minutes as a big RHD on a fantastic contract. None of the pieces coming back do anything for Montreal; another old fourth liner, a nothing pick; and a former first round pick who still can’t crack the nhl in his D+4 season who’ll just get buried on our depth chart of middle to bottom six prospects

Big Habs offseason

It’s amazing to me that in every Parayko hypothetical trade his value is where it is because he’s a cap dump. Yet there’s 3 or 4 of these a day and the comments are littered with extremes to both sides.</div></div>
Here at capfriendly a player is either untouchable or a cap dump. No in between 😂

Oilers Deadline
Habs reject. Kovacevic’s been our best RHD, on a super cheap contract for this season and next, and at this point with the amount of prospects in the system a late third round pick isn’t worth giving up Kovacevic

Full no move clause means they can’t bury him. He’s stuck on the NHL roster.

Didn’t even see the Dach trade. They gave up 13th overall to get him and fix him why would they give him up for a pick thats gonna be around the same?? (Mid second doesn’t move the needle here)

Habs have too many forwards already. If you want to give us Joseph you can take back Hoffman or Armia

I’d accept that if I’m Montreal cause I think they’d be picking between 8-15 with Nylander, but I think if he was willing to sign 9.5 x 8 he’d still be a Leaf.

Yeah in this scenario he's available at 5 but the Habs aren't comfortable taking him, so then it would come down to LA's management comfortability waiting for him to come over in 3 years.

Will Smith, Michkov or Carlsson all likely have higher ceilings than Byfield.
Byfields size is definitely a positive add, but I don't see the Habs risking this.</div></div>
I agree on the assessments of those three players. This post was made under the assumption that Smith and Carlsson are gone and the Habs aren't comfortable taking Michkov.
Been scrolling through Habs Twitter too much and seeing too much negativity towards the prospects of them picking Michkov at 5... now I'm bracing for the worst.

Yeah that's what I'm thinking too.

I think what you guys do with nos. 5 and 31 will be the main stories coming out of Wednesday night. Good luck!</div></div>
Yeah, especially considering it takes longer for bigger guys to develop. Still think he's gonna be a stud.
And thanks!

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Lafleur10</b></div><div>Probably both teams say no, LA are picking up PLD so they will want to make a push, whoever Montreal gets at 5 is at least 2 years out. Montreal sees the potential in whoever they can get at 5 in the most stacked draft in a decade and don't trade away the potential that's there.</div></div>
Fair enough. Admittedly I haven't really watched many of these prospects, so just going off of what I've read nobody the Habs are linked to at 5 really excite me, and I'm still a believer in the potential Byfield has shown in junior days, but yeah, removing a cheap contributor from their lineup for a guy who probably won't be there for two years doesn't make much sense for LA. Would be a long-term bet for them but they're going for it now.

Habs pass easily. They’re not giving up their shot at a stud forward for some late firsts and a number 1 d man who doesn’t fit their timeline and is a UFA next year.

Probably Monahan. I think there’s a chance Beck makes it too. Then between Monahan Beck and Evans you’ve got 3 centers for 2 spots, which makes a ton of sense considering Monahan and Evans’ injury issues.
