Trading mitch for rod
Canes probably won’t send Chatfield’s UFA rights with since it’s very likely they try to re-sign him. But Canes probably take that trade. Also, Rod will be the Canes coach next year.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MacanBayangan</b></div><div>yeah I like the trade for both parties and understand Rod is unlikely (although would be great from our perspective). Do you think there's a chance he won't be extended if you get swept by the rangers?</div></div>
I am doubtful that they get swept by the Rangers, but even then, an extension has reportedly been in place since the summer. Rod wait's to sign until all of the assistants are signed, and Dundon is in the business of making money - he's not going to can the coach who has made 6 straight playoffs after the team missed for a decade.
Rod is also pretty vocal about staying in Raleigh. I have my doubts that he would coach anywhere else even if he was fired.

You sure about that after the way this round has gone so far? Scratching Kuznetsov for Comtois to only play Comtois for 6 minutes isn't exactly... reassuring.

Marnville
Habs don't need another D.
Kovacevic is the ultimate best 7th D out there.
He costs LESS than the minimum salary; he's a tower, stable, reliable, extemely popular with teammates.
I see why the LEafs would target him though.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MacanBayangan</b></div><div>someone will take them for late round/future considerations so not really anything to discuss there. As for montreal, perhaps lily can be developed further taking regular top 4 minutes. There's good upside there and a 2nd and a cheap UFA isn't much to pay. Sounds like a win-win to me.</div></div>
Trust the devil you know. Habs knows that Kovacevic isn't flashy, but gets the job done in the Defensive zone. I also don't think Liljegren is worth a 2nd. Also adding Liljegren limits having Mailloux and Reinbacher making the next move. So again, to have Kovy as the 6-7 defense you can call up the other 2 easier than placing a Liljegren with 1.4(or plus depending on signing) in the press box.
So, with that said Montreal says no thank you.

Fixing and turning the page
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MacanBayangan</b></div><div>Comes out at ~$1.8m saving so not too bad. I'd argue Kampf is a more than serviceable 4C, would adding a couple of mid picks move the needle?
Alternatively, scrapping Roy & Kampf, would you do Hague for Robertson & Timmins (& low pick if needed)?</div></div>
I think The Hague for Robertson and picks thing might be a thing, but I have a feeling Hill and maybe Kolesar is the options to get Marshy back

Easy no from vegas. The cap savings is like you said, minimal. We give up the 2 best players.

But to be fair, If Roy is open to go to Canada, the value seems fair. Length and amount of the contract is just about right.
The Kings probably do not have enough cap space to re-sign him.

Also per my post above I don't think you're wrong whatsoever for putting this on here or thinking of it, I just like the safety of keeping the prospects we have lol

Next year signings
not a fan of shipping robo and Lily for 2nd personally. They are both NHL calibre players and the 2nd rounders while nice won't help us in the near future and aren't sure to pan out.
While we have been hitting solidly recently on 2nd rounders (Minten, Knies, Robertson), some have been great (Durzi, Dermott) some have been decent (Grundstrom) but some have missed or not translated to the NHL (Rasanen, Korshkov, Bracco, Finn)
So while we could draft someone better, it is more likely it will be worse.
On Gregor, any pick for him would be good. Since he is depth and isn't always in the lineup, especially recently

Keep Jones for insurance. Either way, I like these moves. Might have to cough up just a sliver more for Duclair though

Also, im assuming tanevs price in the media includes 50% retention. Its not like there are teams that can fit 4.5m under the cap

I like novak. He seems like one of the few players on that team that would fit this system. But kampf is a cup contending 4C, you have to appreciate the stability he brings so that’s a no deal for me

Just to add, Lagesson being a UFA really doesn't give much value to the Flyers
Roy, I know so many target him as a Leaf, but he's a Michigan boy, and would like both the Sabres and Wings who need RHD might have the edge over the Leafs.
Flyers Walker is an Ontario boy, I wonder if he might be an "easier" UFA signing.

I Duclair Bankruptcy
I like the idea of targeting Seeler and Duclair, both trades look pretty good to me...I think Seeler might cost a little more, if it's the 2026 3rd Philly would likely need a 2024 4th or 5th to go with it.
I think Duclair might come in a little cheaper, if it's a 2024 3rd I think adding Hirvonen and another pick is a slight overpayment. 2024 3rd and a prospect should be enough imo. But ya never know at the deadline!
Nice ideas!

Sending Reaves down and moving Jones would give you over 5.3M in cap space. That could be a major upgrade in the bottom six.

Moving the needle
Dewar was drafted in the 3rd round, so I doubt he'd go for anything less. He is the kind of addition that doesn't make that big of a splash but turns out to be the best one made. He's also an RFA after the season.
