What i would do before they move to Quebec
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>csick</b></div><div>Frees up cap space ;)</div></div>
Losing an integral part of our core isn't a cap dump. He's an incredibly capable playmaker and is integral to our second line. We can free up cap space by moving Boychuk with the picks acquired in the Toews trade and using either picks or Bellows as a sweetener to take Komarov. Bailey isn't a useless player, FAR from it. He's 2 season out from a 71 point season.

FULL REBUILD TRADING CORE
That Islanders trade is pretty rough. We shed minimal cap and in return take back a slightly better version of Boychuk, a similar-at-best version of Komarov and lose Wahlstrom, a top prospect, and some lottery tickets. If we're shedding Boychuk, we'd rather just trade straight picks to get rid of him and open up a spot for Dobson full time. I love seeing Dobson play, I'm very excited for his future.

New York Islanders signed AJ Greer (1 Year / $700,000 AAV)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Orr28</b></div><div>You think they'd alternate Greer and Ross the Boss? And surely this ends speculation that Martin will be brought back.</div></div>
Martin can still easily come back. He's a fantastic locker room guy, although I agree that a Greer/Boss alternating combo would be better. Give Greer a chance to prove himself and replace Martin on the best fourth line in the league. If Martin does come back (on a cheap deal), I suspect Komarov is gone for cap and the fourth line remains intact with Johnston and Greer as scratches. I'd rather play Greer over MDC any day, although realistically we should have Bellows/Wahlstrom or maybe even give Holmstrom a quick shot this year where MDC would play, and get rid of MDC.

Nice. I actually think he might have a chance at making the roster, and I like seeing him play.

Never done the Isles before thoughts
Pulock gets 6x6 in arbitration, Barzal gets 8x3 or 9.5x8 imo, Cizikas is a huge part of the best fourth line in the league (Martin-Zeeker-Clutterbuck), and is a fantastic person and defensive player. Not a cap dump. Hickey won't play, he's just not good enough. Good candidate for a dump.
Ladd on LTIR, I have a feeling he'll get put on Robidas/Lupul Isle.
Don't trade Zeeker to sign a much worse player for $1.35 less.
There's more, but meh.

I was the first vote. Sad. Wotherspoon is good AHL depth, I doubt he'll make the NHL anytime soon, especially on the Isles.

Shedding cap
Ladd is a guy who's going to Robidas Island VERY soon, and I sure do love losing a top prospect just to get rid of a tough locker-room leader who can still produce physically and defensively. Not in 1,000,000 years would I, if I were GM, EVER take on Seabrook for Ladd, and neither would I give up a future potential 30 goal scorer/effective power forward (think Jarome Iginla for an example of his style of play) to lose 3 million in cap. I'll give you this though; I do buy that Chicago would want Ladd back, lol

(CGY / NYI) - Hamonic for 2018 1st, 2nd round picks
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>HabsForEver</b></div><div>Likely yes, but it's too early to write off either team.</div></div>
If Hamonic was still a solid defender as well as scoring 30+ points a season, I'd agree. He's still a good defender, but as with most defenders, as he's aged his offense has declined. Dobson is setup to be a regular on our roster next season, and will be Hamonic on steroids (hopefully not literally) for years to come. I personally like Bolduc, but there's no expectations of star power from him or anything.

(CGY / NYI) - Hamonic for 2018 1st, 2nd round picks
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Daoloth</b></div><div>Islanders took a step forward trading for Eberle only to take 2 steps back dealing Hamonic. They needed to at least get Ferland who had 15 goals if they were going to ship him to flames. Bad move by Islanders for a team who missed post season by 1 or 2 points depending on if had a tie breaker or not. Shipping a guy who has an upside with a contract under 4M cheaper than Russell, Muzzin, Martinez, among many others wasn't good for NYI. Flames need to win now going with Mike Smith or whoever in net, now they have a nice top 4 D with Doogie Hamilton who always liked from Boston days, TJ Brodie another guy like, then the big name Giordana or however spell his name with Hamonic rounding them out. Lucky for Islanders they at least have Mayfield along with Pullock or whatever whoa re right shots to play behind Boychuk. Not happy about this deal, hoped they could get Trouba from Jets if were shipping a right shot D :)... Now if they don't sign Shattenkirk or Cody Franson their D will probably not be as stellar missing post season by 5-10 points. At least Garth Snow is still himself, backing from his desire for 2 first round picks for Hamnoic.
I think much of this was motivated by him wanting to be traded closer to Winnipeg for family reasons. Kings cry about stuff instead of making deals for a right shot D-man... They could have signed Cody Franson, kept Schenn for a total of 4.25M or so. Either way teams in the West are getting better while the Kings are lucky Vancouver is there to keep them from finishing last :). I had wanted Vegas to take Ferland but he was protected. Islanders will probably botch these draft picks anyways knowing them :). Must be tough for their hardcore fans anytime they seem to move forward they spring backwards ;).</div></div>
Dobson, Bolduc and not having Hamonic make me very happy. :)

Ideal 2020-21 Islanders
Keep in mind, the title says ideal. This is all conjecture and wishful thinking; not something I think will/should/can happen realistically in todays, cap-strapped COVID NHL. Hickey is also a good trade option, he's better than most people think he's just been relegated to the AHL since the Isles have a surplus of LD and a cap problem, but for now he fits well in that top-6 pairing with Dobson. Some mentoring potential there.

Hyman's only goals are empty-netters, Brodie is a new signing and is yet to be seen in a Leafs jersey, and Andersen is consistent but the defense in front of him lets him down every single game. We don't have that problem.

Barzal, Eberle, Bailey, Pulock, Varlamov, Pelech (ESPECIALLY Pelech), Lee, Pageau and Nelson are all pieces in the Islanders. You see, our team has <em>depth scoring</em> and <em>parity</em>, where your team has four superstars and that's it.

I was thinking they'd trade Ny for cap instead of sacrificing depth. They didn't. They're front-forward now; if any one of Tavares, Matthews, Nylander or Marner has a bad year/gets injured, it's over.

Islanders 2020-2021 ALTERNATIVE
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Isles777</b></div><div>Or it could be similar to the Nate Schmidt situation..</div></div>
How? Nate Schmidt was an undrafted guy who did well enough with U. Minn to get signed out of college, and was in an out of the NHL pretty quickly. He never had any disappointing AHL seasons. He never had any expectations, and he is a defenseman. He played good in the AHL, and soon after NHL, right off the bat. Bellows went from AHL plugger to solid Isles prospect again a little <em>too</em> fast.
