Don't suspect TOR will be in on another versatile winger @ this price range... Good chance they offer something like this to keep Kerfoot around-- and he'd be more likely to stay, than Sheary would be to come aboard.

Didnt realize how much we save if Murray is bought out
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Melnyk_0ut</b></div><div>They either pay $4.7M next season or they pay 600k next season and $2M the following season. Seems like a no brainer to buy-out, especially with the cap going up</div></div>
Depends on Matthews & Nylander extension values, and a few other roster decisions.... I would guess if he's not traded, he's staying put to keep 24/25 out of it.... But Treliving could see differently.

TOR will not buyout... costs too much against the cap in 24/25 season (~2million)

Oh I agree with you that he's not worth that-- but what's the real difference between your 7950000 & 8500000 ?
Trade partners may not be lining up to spend it on him either

again those players will be 28 & 29 when their contract is done.... I would expect Cat to be in that same ballpark really as those 2, not because he's as good, just they way contracts work. Next man up. They also signed while the cap was slightly lower, but both around 10% of the ceiling.

Debrincat gets more than Norris.
He has a longer track record of success. Age at signing is different, too-- Norris can still cash in big on a long term deal at 30. This would be Debrincats only long term deal most likely as he'll be 33 by the time this deal would expire.

Great assets to offer--- but nothing is going to get you Bedard at this stage.
The gap between real generational talents and superstars is huge. Having generational players (like Bedard is expected to be) with contract control for 7+ years cannot be understated.

Lets Make a Deal Kyle
Severson @ $6.1x6 will be a garbage contract.
Not enough $ for Mayfield, or Samsonov
Monahan, while being a low cap hit, is not someone you can count on to play full top 6 minutes for a season/playoffs.
I like the Graves addition... But keep Brodie instead of signing Severson, & give the extra million to Mayfield.

Who adds
TOR would need to add.
Nylander is more talented. But Lindholm is a great 2way C and @ a great cap hit.

Why Brodie could be traded
Brodie is a fine top 4 D. He has more value to TOR than any team trading for him.
Supporting cast needs improvement. Leafs have 5 D that are 4-7 guys. Need to bring someone in that pushes guys down/out of the lineup.
Liljegren needs to take another big jump this season.
I've loved Gio but he needs upgraded at this stage in his career.
Enjoyed Schenn in the playoffs, but he can't be top 4 for a full season.

The Trade Is One For One
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>KingExLeafs</b></div><div>Age doesn't effect the great players as much as people think. Look at what Pavelski did at age 38 this year.</div></div>
Sure there are players that can continue at a high level late in their career. But many drop off just the same.
Notable difference in Pavelski's game is it was NEVER based on great speed. FWD vs D is also a big difference.

Leafs UFA
Both bad UFA deals.
Gudas found a niche in FLA, but he's not great. And his game won't age well for the next 4 seasons.
Bertuzzi is a decent 2nd line W but 6x6 at this point is just far too much.

is this based on all the playoff success Josi has had... or?
Josi is fantastic. But paying him until he turns 38 seems like poor cap management.

Brad in Toronto makes things interesting
Marner won't be traded for a player with a big cap hit.
<em><strong>IF</strong></em> a core member were to be on the move, it would be to redistribute $ through the lineup-- not to go from $11 million, to $11 million.

Marner for Bratt
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Rage44</b></div><div>Bratt having 2 more goals makes him the better player? Marner had 20+ more points, and is up for Selke. Get real.
Matthews ego or personality has nothing to do with it. By the contract % standards that all players / agents / teams go by --- signing for something similar to McDavid and MacKinnon would be around $13.5+
Expect something closer to $13x 4 years.</div></div>
Marner could still extend with NJ-- just like Bratt doesn't have to sign "that" deal.
The argument that the trade value is off is definitely fair-- I would actually agree that it's too much to give up for 2 seasons of Marner @ 11million --- but it's not because Marner is not a superstar.
Losing in the playoffs doesn't make you a non-superstar.

You've wasted 6.5, by signing Kane.
I can't image Matthews and his ego would sign for just 12m X 8.</div></div>

Number One Defenseman
I know Slavin isn't flashy--- but he's top 5 for me, ahead of McAvoy.
Werenski, Nurse, Chabot, Chychrun, Ekholm too high. Good players, just above where I'd slot them.
I know Doughty is aged-- but he's still top 32 IMO.

Suggested from a friend
Would think that TOR could get Samsonov, or similar level play, to sign for less than Saros cap hit. So to give up Nylander doesn't make sense.
IF a "core4" player (Nylander or Marner) are on the way out-- it only makes sense to me to upgrade at D or 2C (and move JT to the wing), IMO.

Beyond the trade values and who you're getting-- what is the long term plan? Leaves no cap space to re-sign AM34, WN88 TL37, TB78 or have high level replacements for any of them.

Brodie plays the right side naturally. He's LH shot I know, but he's stronger on RD.
