I completely agree. I’d expect a highly inconsistent offence that dries up in important situations.
Plus I actually hope they’d suck, I despise low scoring hockey, especially with the decline in physical play. Now the only thing that keeps the game exciting is offence, so for me, watching these guys would be epically dull.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Leafsfan98</b></div><div>Matthews, great to have this conversation... Best goal scorer in the league
Seriously, Matthews has a .622 goals per game over his career... Higher than the other 2 and guys like Ovi and Gretzky (not saying I'd take Matthews over either but it's more of a: This is how good Matthews is type of thing)</div></div>
Absolutely Matthews is the more talented goal scorer. But again, let’s compare actual goals and actual points over the last 5 years: Draisaitl—46.2G 107.4P, Matthews—45G 82P (per season averages over the last 5 years). Not only does Draisaitl have more goals (just because he’s in the lineup more often), Draisaitl has 25.4 more points per season than Matthews. No amount of intangibles can close that gap— especially when considering how much of a beast Draisaitl is in the playoffs.

Might be biased but look at the last 5 seasons between Draisaitl, Matthews and MacKinnon. One of them is just consistently better than the other two.
Just think: which one of those players are you going to put money on to have a 50 goal 100point campaign this next season.

Ranking NHL GMs
Just take a step back and look at your results. 21/32 NHL GM’s are below average and 6/32 NHL GM’s are above average.
These aren’t ACGM teams with an average skewed by dummies that turn 1/4 baked ideas into pretend NHL rosters. These are all excellent hockey minds competing on an equal footing to win a Stanley cup.
Averages don’t lie… your math sucks.

Foegele odd man out
Did you know that right now there’s only 6 teams with more space than Edmonton? There’s no way any team is looking to add Foegele at his price point when other players like him are signing for half that right now. He’s a good NHL’er, but truth is with the flat cap these guys are the ones getting squeezed.

shipping out SJs two best players at TDL EK reasonable retention
Trading Ceci makes no sense to me, he’s Edmonton’s best overall RHD. Trading him on top of 3 first round picks(Bouch, borgault, 1st), a 20 goal scorer (yams) and a second round pick for Karlsson and 3 other pieces that do nothing for me is just ludicrous.
I would expect San Jose to retain half for this package—Edmonton’s not trading Ceci.

I don’t see how Hyman has such a bad contract. Dude already has 38 goals in an Oiler uniform, and the going rate for top six forwards is way higher than $5.5M. Keep in mind he cost nothing but capspace to acquire, and fits real well with the character of the team. Also his decline due to age should coincide with a skyrocketing salarycap, so they’ll be able to augment the roster to fill in the gaps. How is this not at least a decent signing for the team?

So really, this is just a mess.

Yes. Seattle is going to use 2/3 of their retention slots, one of them long term, to get your cap casualties and a future 1st round pick.

McLeod will be signed and most likely start at 3C. I have no belief Benson will make the NHL team, I think he’ll be a skill guy for the AHL team that can spot in the NHL if there are lots of injuries.
I almost wonder if Holland will run a 20 or 21 man roster with Foegele, and then try to off load him if he has a good start to the season. Either that or to a competitive team that loses some depth on the wing. If you’ve got a player out for the season, and Foegele can replace him and help you compete for a playoff spot now, why not take him and a 3rd or 4th round pick for your trouble?

The signing bonuses can’t be bought out and make his contract buyout proof. His cap hit will actually be around 7.5M for 4 years and then have a penalty of 850k for 4 years after. There’s a buyout calculator on this website, just set the date to 2026.

Just like every other fan of hockey, I love the thought of P. Kane dishing the puck to McDavid or Draisaitl. But I also don’t like giving up 2 first round picks for a rental forward when Edmonton’s obvious flaw Is defence. Does P. Kane win them an extra round in the playoffs? I think they lose their next series because of goals against, so they’d be better off spending those assets on a defenceman with term in more of a hockey trade.

Top 5 c all time heres some controvers
I just don’t see how Gretzky is behind Lemieux. The 2 quick things I’d like to point out that highlight just how dominant he was over everyone else are:
1) the second fastest player to 1000 career points is actually Gretzky again when he went from 1000 points to 2000.
2) when Lemieux won the 1986 Lester B. Pearson Trophy for best NHL player, he had 141 points, which was less than 2/3 of Gretzky’s points. Gretzky’s 215 point season somehow went overlooked because it was his 4th 200 point campaign, something no one else has accomplished.

(TOR/COL) - Kadri, Rosén 2020 3rd for Kerfoot, Barrie 2020 6th
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>aadoyle</b></div><div>Nobody has won this trade. If you cant figure that out from a logical perspective rather than "this guy is getting more points so we win" I'm sorry I cant help you
To sum things up
Kadri has not helped the Avs have better post season success in fact he hurt them getting suspended
Kerfoot meanwhile has not helped Toronto either with their playoff issues
So in the end it does not matter whose doing better. Neither side has accomplished anything new in the post season. Kadri could get 100 points and get suspended in the playoffs like he always does or not help Colorado to get out of round 2. While Kerfoot could get 40 points but help the Leafs win a cup or go to the Finals. Will people care about Kadri having more points...No what will matter is the end game results.
Then again if you factor in Kadri is a UFA and could be playing his way out of Colorado as if he gets 100 points doubt they can afford him meanwhile Kerfoot is probs a Leaf for 2020-2023 technically making them the winner should this happen. But anyways thats the summed up version.</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>aadoyle</b></div><div>I can tell you dont understand so I will re-iterate
It does not matter how well player A does vs. player B what matters is the end result
What if Kadri gets 100 points but Colorado gets eliminated in Round 2 again meanwhile Toronto wins the Cup with Kerfoot being a factor. Who then wins this trade?
People wont be saying Colorado
So in the end its about the end results for the team including the post season and beyond. Kadri can get 100 points but not help the team get out of round 2 while Kerfoot could get 40 and get the Leafs a cup.
In general you can think what you want but the Majority of people on this site agree rn its a Draw.
Heck could become a Leafs win if Kadri leaves via FA as its not gonna be easy for Avs to afford him especially if he does get 100 points.
Anyways if you cant understand after this I cant help you</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>DirtyDangle</b></div><div>always was.
lots of people here got some ass kissin to do.</div></div>
Do you understand now Mr. leaf fan? As it turns out, trading worse players for better ones makes your team better. I’m surprised “you couldn’t figure that out from a logical perspective”.
You ready to eat your own words yet?

Puljujarvi Trade in and out at Deadline - Cap Space Luxury
Let me propose an alternate scenario for you (not saying the Oilers do this one either)
Edmonton trades JP with 50% retained to NJD for 2nd round pick
Edmonton trades NJD 2nd round pick to CHI for Domi with 50% retained.
JP has out performed Domi on a per game basis the last two years, and has the same cap hit/amount of retained salary, but let’s just say their values are about the same (JP is more valuable imo). Now notice how in both scenario’s, both EDM and NJD get the same players at the same cap hit, so why in your scenario do you get an extra 2nd from Edmonton???
