Next Year with Tanev
I love it, but doubt it happens. Hanifin doesn't strike me as a guy who wants to keep playing in Canada, nvm TO. Cowan & Minten both being ready for full time duty nest year is also a stretch I'd think, but who knows.

Ya I think that's maybe most likely, but Lindholm has all the leverage right now and assuming he's going to a contender, might want to wait for the summer to max $$$ after a potential playoff run. Kind of get the feeling that Calgary will get the best offer from a team that needs them to retain some salary this year and the extension/UFA signing will come in the summer.

People forget how little rental players can get sometimes. Not saying Lindholm will go for scraps, but it's definitely more likely he's dealt for far less than his value if he doesn't have an extension in place. Myers being in this makes it unlikely, but I'd bet a 1st and a decent prospect is probably close to the final price they get unless he agrees to sign.

Term. UFAs don't have their peak value, not close.</div></div>
Nylander comes with an extension ... and I think the rivalry just gains so much with a trade like that. I think it makes the Sens better and the Leafs grittier, and two players like that playing against their former clubs add a huge element to any rivalry.

I mean you're objectively wrong about Savard, so I doubt any discussion will get us anywhere there. Maybe McCabe has been a bit better than the start (where he was one of the worst players in the league) but he's still struggling mightily.

It's difficult to respond to both of these comments with one sentence lol but I will try
McCabe has been bad this year (REAL BAD, Savard could do plenty more than hold his jock), but he's shown pretty well in previous seasons, is 3+ years younger than Savard, and on a relatively cheap contract for next year, where he could play meaningful minutes and be traded at the deadline. I didn't realize Savard was signed for next year so the trade needs something else (probably a 2nd or 3rd+4th) for that additional retention.

Ya I said I think Flyers fans would want more. Probably have to upgrade a pick from Leafs, remove a pick from PHI, and swap two of Robertson/Minten/Cowan for Abru/Hirv combo. That said, Hart is an RFA who they might not want to pay, and Kone only have 1 year to UFA so maybe it doesn't take that much if they're committing to a rebuild.

What are you doing? Quite literally none of those players are worth a 1st round pick. Walker would be the closest if some team desperately wants to over pay for him with retention.
Never mind throwing in two of our best prospects, two roster players and more picks. Yikes 😬

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>evelutions2</b></div><div>Svech isn’t getting moved. Period. And it’s quite delusional to think that Nylander pulls that much. Of course Svech isn’t playing up to expectations right now, I mean, he just came back from a major injury. And frankly, with that in mind, he is still putting up a respectable amount of points given the circumstances, and that’s without mentioning that the majority of the team isn’t playing up to expectations.</div></div>
Am I overvaluing Nylander a bit? Sure, but based on their stats he's worth about 4.4M more per season than Svech atm, and I'm talking about a very specific set of circumstances that would need to happen for this kind of a trade to go down. Admittedly, it's very unlikely, but I don't think the value is that far off.
Would you prefer Marner?

Fair argument for sure. I probably wouldn't do it if I was Don, but maybe he feels it's time they finally get that superstar player, and if Pesce isn't going to resign, Svech maybe not living up to expectations, Nylander having a huge year, could all add up to a decision like this.

Ya this is only if it's obvious they can't come to an agreement with Willy in season and decide it's best to move him then.
Canadiens trade was just to show they'd potentially have the flexibility to make a move like that. I think McCabe is pretty valuable to a rebuilding team (he'd play top 4 minutes and get a good return at the deadline, could retain again), but less so to the Leafs (I think Leafs have decent internal/cheaper options for the 3rd pair next year).

You'll need to add from the leafs.
Maybe Nylander for Svech 1v1 is more likely to happen.
Then Pesce with an extension in place cost at least a 1st rd pick.</div></div>
Sorry I should have clarified ... I think Pesce only signs extension in the summer after he gets a taste of TO (wins the cup 😉). A trade like this would probably require a few things to happen first:
1) Canes start to think internally that this isn't their year, but they still want to compete for playoffs and make larger changes for next year.
2) Pesce & Nylander extensions look like long shots for their respective clubs.
3) Svech isn't playing up to expectations.
4) NTC's waived.

I mean, sure, maybe Tkachuk's style is more valuable in your eyes, but objectively (based on measurable stats), Nylander is more responsible for adding wins to his team than Tkachuk right now. Everything else you said is correct and probably why this would never happen. Never mind the fact that Tkachuk is the beloved captain, but you never know. We've seen stranger things haha

I disagree, at best Tkachuk and Nylander are about equal in terms of value. This year it's actually not close so far ... Nylander >> Tkachuk, but some consideration must be made for their respective ages and salaries (also, don't forget Nylander is cheaper than Brady this year). Sens could maybe even fit in Pinto after this deal and after he's done serving.

Leafs - Canes - Flyers
Gotta say, this is one of the more creative proposals I've seen. I'd bet Flyers fans would want to get more in return, but i don't think that's far off. They may refuse to retain that much, but by making a trade like that they'd be officially diving into a more significant rebuild and the retention might not matter much. If that's the case, they likely refuse to add one of the 2nds.
Canes only do this if Willy comes with an extension around $10M which I think is unlikely.
Overall though, I think the Leafs are a much better balanced team after this so I'm on board if it could ever happen.

When you give out the 8x8 contract to young guys, you're gonna miss sometimes (not saying Norris a miss, he's still young and returning from sever injury). I think on the whole though, PD seemed to have a wicked young core locked up on what's looking to be mostly amazing contracts by years 3,4,5. I'm confused as to why the team isn't winning, but like I said, I don't watch too many of their games. Coach?

Man this is downright awful.
1. Nylander AND Liljegren AND picks for a accurately paid 32 year old 2C, and a replacement level defenceman ... What?
2. Fine, but why?
3. Seth Jones is no longer worth half of that contract. Chicago would have to add sweeteners for a team to take on that albatross contract.

Zadorov could fetch anything from a 3rd to a 1st, IMO. Objectively, a player of his type hasn't been worth more than a 2nd with some retention, but there could be a team (and likely is) that values him within their structure at a 1st with some retention. Flames fans clamouring about Chiarot and other big defensive dmen 'comparables' who fetched a 1st always seem to forget Big Z is playing on the third pair and isn't even killing penalties.

Marner and Tkachuk Reunited
I know Marner's NMC is the main issue, but if he's being traded, I think they are waiting until he has an extension in place to get full value. i.e. trading him next summer for a top pairing D + (would Columbus trade Werenski?), and then signing a competent 2C and top 4 D with his money (Lindholm & Hanifin/Forsling?). I think that's the play.
