2021-2022 NHL Playoffs Discussion Thread #3 - SE7EN
I just noticed CAR has their "C" and "A" letters on the right side of the jersey instead of the left. I always though DET was the only team who put it on the right. Are there any other teams that have letters on the right I dont know about?

Sabres Steal a RHD
Giving up an unprotected 1st in the Bedard draft after finishing bottom 10 the year before is a real risky move. I know they are expected to be better this year but that could come back to haunt them

I don't like the term on Clutterbuck but at 1M at least he can be buried in the AHL with no issues
Kamenev isn't coming back to COL anyway so I think I'd make this trade

+280 for COL to win means that COL is the underdog. Every single betting site has COL as the favourite so if you get COL at + odds that means you can use the arbitrage betting strategy to make guaranteed money. It has to be an error

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Brian2016</b></div><div>I can't believe the odds on Colorado winning this series. They were +280 on Fan Duel this afternoon. Even Moneypuck has them at over 70% favorites (not sure if that's been updated since the game began). This Avs team, albeit improved from last season, lost 4 straight to a mediocre Vegas team. This Blues team is far superior in just about every facet of the game. If the odds were 50/50 I'd take the Avs. But, this series is so primed for a massive upset. And the current odds would make a STL win in the series a massive upset.
Of course, Val scores right as I'm about to post.</div></div>
COL was +280 to win the series??? That cant be right

Weaponized Cap Space
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Shibbal18</b></div><div>They are the weapon</div></div>
Weaponizing cap space usually means taking advantage of other teams by taking cap dumps and gaining assets in the process. Its what ARZ did with Gostisbehere, Stralman, Ladd, etc last year

I wouldnt call this weaponizing cap space. You didnt get any assets for taking on cap dumps

I hope a grudge doesnt prevent Sakic from making a move like that. Stastny is one of the few C options who will sign short term (to not cause any problems with the MacKinnon/Byram.Newhook/etc extensions next offseason) with a low enough AAV and be able to step into a 2C role if needed. I think hes the perfect type of player to have as we transition Newhook into a 2C role

I mean Domingue is 3-3 and Hutchinson was 2-1. Its not exactly the same but it sucks for any team to have to rely on their 3rd string goalie in the playoffs

Wow, Shesty truly carrying the Rangers lol. Now that is 5v5 and doesn't include special teams but Rangers having that low 5v5 impact is bad. Pens having it that high shows either goaltending or special teams are killing them</div></div>
I feel bad for PIT. They are dominating but have had to play with their 3rd string goalie because of injuries. Its similar to what COL had to do with Hutchinson in net vs DAL a couple years ago

What Needs to be Done
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Xqb15a</b></div><div>Yeah that was not suppose to be physical it was suppose to be about his production (sorry). He isn’t a top 6 player, He doesn’t take face offs, the majority of his starts are in the offensive zone, and maybe most importantly he doesn’t produce in the playoffs, I mean literally the last 4 playoffs 0,1,5,0 points. Way better ways to spend $3.1M.</div></div>
He isnt supposed to be a top 6 player. I think 3RW is a good spot for him.
His oZS% was 51.9%, pretty much even
Playoff production history for depth players isnt as important as it is for star players + goalies imo. Each year is usually such a small sample size and it varies a lot year to year - look at Kadri in TOR - the narrative was that he could never be a playoff performer and would always get suspended and now hes scoring over a point per game in the postseason in COL. A lot of UFAs this year actually have poor histories of playoff production: Trocheck, Rust, Jarnkrok, Domi, Mikheyev, Niederreiter, Copp, etc (with some of them actually producing this year which just shows how playoff production varies)
There are definitely other ways to spend that $ (probably better ways tbh) but I dont think Smith is a bad option at all

Size, experience, scores half a point per game, good on offense and defense
How is he non physical? Averages over a hit per game. 3.1M is fair for what he provides imo
