Time to tank and hopefully get another Hughes
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TheAlien</b></div><div>I'd look to see if you can move Sutter and Edler with some retention too.</div></div>
I could see Sutter w/retention being moved for a pick, but I don't think Edler will waive. If he would it would be great because they could probably get a decent return on him at the deadline.

Why not let Heinola get some games instead of trading for Murphy? The kid looks like he might be ready for the big league.

Canucks 2021
I don't see a multi-year deal for any more UFA's unless they can dump a significant contract or two. There's just not enough cap space available for 2021 in this scenario. I think VAN will be looking at a one-year UFA for the 3rd pair D.

Which makes it all the more troubling for VAN, because they'll definitely need to move one or two next offseason.

You might be right, but that’s a little disappointing as it doesn’t clear all that much space this year and adds a bit next year.

Foudy and the 1st are the main pieces. I doubt CHI takes a sniff without them in the deal.

That will work too, but I'm betting they don't want to run with less than 23 players, especially if Ferland is one of them.

Adding Kane
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ajp_18</b></div><div>That truly gives us a 2 year window. Not sure we really are a team he would waive to... that’s also an awful lot for us to give up for a 2 year rental.</div></div>
Kane has three years left on his deal, all of which he should still be an elite producer. I understand you're also taking into account the expiry of contracts like Jones, Werensky, the goalies, and Domi when you say a 2 year window, but that window is wide open IMO. With the way this team can shut down defensively, adding a guy like Kane would be amazing.

Year 2 Shed Cap
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Canucks33</b></div><div>I was thinking that there would be better goalies with more terms available either through the Expansion draft itself, trade or Free Agency. Myers is a decent player, just overpaid. If Seattle goes defense heavy like Vegas did, I could see him being of interest. They can move him with retention if they want.</div></div>
True, I just think Seattle won't be doing the Canucks any cap favors by selecting Myers unless VAN pays them to do it, like you've laid out here.

Year 1 Stopgap
I've got my fingers crossed that Hoglander earns a spot on the roster and that Ferland is actually 100% healthy if he's going to play. Both would make a huge difference to the forward group.

Year 2 Shed Cap
Nice work, I like it. Although I take issue with one thing you've outlined regarding the expansion draft; Holtby will likely be the best selection option for Seattle, not Myers. He's a better player, on a cheaper, shorter contract. The one thing that may work in the Canucks favor on this is the amount of other good goalies that will be available to Seattle, but Holtby would be a very low-risk pick for them.
But I do like the idea of sending the Kraken some draft capital to make Myers the selection instead if they don't mind taking his contract.

Even a stopped watch is right twice a day
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Canucks33</b></div><div>But we need another defenseman, not a winger. Myers is not a good fit with Hughes.</div></div>
Both Myers and Hughes actually had pretty good possession stats when playing as a pair last year, and Myers is probably better utilized with more OZ starts as he's not a real shutdown Dman. And ideally the team would get another Dman and top 6 forward, but there just isn't cap room for both. IMO the bigger need is a top 6 winger after they acquired Schmidt.

Gaudette and Hawryluk changes things
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jim_Benning_Almost</b></div><div>Hawryluk was signed on a 2 way deal because they could. I believe there is every intention of him taking the role that Roussel occupies right now...for $2.2 million cheaper. Never a question that Gaudette was coming back, but I haven't seen many in this ACGM area putting him in for such a low amount. $950k is a bargain for him.</div></div>
Definitely is a bargain, but it's a shame they couldn't do a 2 year deal for a slightly higher AAV.

If he signs long term he’ll likely get around 10, but I was working with a bridge deal here in hopes that the price would come down a bit. If a bridge costs 8+ then it’s almost not worth it to do a shorter deal.

At the moment I don't think the Canucks would entertain trading Demko at all, but a lot can change by next season. If Holtby regains his form, DiPietro continues to develop well and a team offered up a good player or pick then maybe they'd consider it.

All of these other teams pass. I’ve ‘cap dumped’ Eriksson in many a Canucks ACGM with a 1st + another pick or good player, and often get fans of the other teams happily accepting. 2x 1sts is madness.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>sedin33</b></div><div>How do you think Eriksson would like a season albeit abbreviated in the minors?</div></div>
I think he'd probably be upset by it, but the reality is that the team saves a little more on the cap if he's sent down, and he really hasn't earned a roster spot on the big club based on this past season.

I disagree, Myers is definitely way overpaid for what he contributes, but he still does fill a role of need on the team. He was actually pretty good last year when paired with Hughes.

No. At this point I predict that they'd protect Schmidt, Juolevi and Rafferty. Edler will be a UFA, Hughes and Rathbone exempt. Leaving Myers exposed, but Seattle won't want his contract.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TMLBRIAN</b></div><div>Yea agreed. Picks could/would need to be added as I stated in the description.
As for Sergy, I agree Ottawa should look at him also. They should look at Cirelli, Sergy and Stamkos. I can see Tampa and Ottawa making a big trade together, soon. For one or multiple of those pieces. In this AGM I focused on Stamkos.</div></div>
Fair enough, I just think with his age and injury history Stamkos makes a lot less sense for Ottawa. Getting either of the other guys would be an awesome fit though.

(Maybe if Vancouver retained some on Ericsson and offered ELC player instead of Virtanen)</div></div>
You might be right, but I picked NJD because their roster is fairly short on NHL'ers at the moment and they still have tons of cap space. If there was interest in Virtanen on their side this is a good value for them.
