For a team that "everybody wants to play for" they sure seem like they have to pay people a lot of money to play for them.

Clearly they like him. I'm not totally convinced myself though.
Edit: I think I'm going to vote yes for the same reason I voted No on Miro's deal.
OTT sucks, so there is little opportunity cost lost by locking him up compared to bridging.
Still don't see how he could have gotten much more if they waited a year though, and that would have helped lower the risk a tad</div></div>
You voted no on the Miro deal? Miro Heiskanen? That deal was a bargain before the ink was even dry.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Brian2016</b></div><div>To answer that question: No, of course not. But those suspensions had nothing to do with him getting bought out. And that's my point. If the mistakes he made as a junior player weren't enough of a reason to keep him from getting signed, they certainly weren't the reasons he was waived.</div></div>
You're the one that said he was labelled a racist because of his political views and called it a witch hunt. I brought up that he has been suspended TWICE for using slurs towards opponents and teammates. He was waived/bought out by NY for being a piece of **** and had disciplinary issues when on other teams as well.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>vmark</b></div><div>The way he was portrayed in the media, as racist and whatnot, was a witch hunt scenario due to his political beliefs. I didn't say the Rangers bought him out because of his political views, but they were also under pressure from the media after it came out that he made fun of Georgiev, or whatever.
The Rangers suck though. Let's not forget Trouba is their captain and both Kakko and Lafreniere are busts.
Plenty of his teammates have gone on record saying he is a good teammate. Carolina just signed him again... not at 5M a year though.
I see nothing wrong here and I think he gets too much hate from people on the internet who have no idea what they're talking about.</div></div>
So, were his two suspensions while with Sarnia for using slurs also a "witch hunt" due to his political views?

When. you (not you personally) attack someone's character, there should be specific evidence, no? The only thing I remember from NY was a fight with Georgiev and an internet hoax involving K'Andre Miller. Nothing I've seen or heard tells me the Phi buyout had anything to do with off-ice issues. It seemed to be a hockey decision. Seems to. me like he has a history of underperformance, not character issues.</div></div>
He was suspended from his junior team for calling a teammate a slur.

As for whether he deserved the award, that's different conversation altogether. Imo he didn't. Frankly, I find it absolutely flabbergasting he won the award. He overpaid for a UFA player (Marchment), traded a first for a player that didn't fit to the lineup, and was in general very conservative in his work.
Just about only good deal he did last season was the Domi trade.</div></div>
He managed to sign 3 members of our young core to team friendly contracts.

Top 9 Centers: Hintz, Johnston, Faksa
Top 9 LW: Robertson, Benn, Marchment
Top 9 RW: Pavelski, Seguin, Dadonov, and now Duchene.
Does this mean Faksa gets dealt and Seguin goes back to center?</div></div>
Faksa is a 4th line center.

32 players are drafted in the 5th round. I don't see 32 players 5'8 getting drafted simply because there aren't as many 5'8 players. It's almost as though ratios have something to do with the numbers. Being 5'8 hasn't stopped quite a few players from having excellent careers, even HoF worthy careers.
