I think it could certainly be out bid but it's the most I would want to see given up. I got a real crush on Coronato to so this package would hurt my heart.

Realistic Offseason - Few Changes

The Pelletier situation is weird here. I see it similar to how Dube came in. May not even start on the team but I hope he makes it out of camp. Personally i would swap him and Dube on their respective lines. As I said in the description I think the 2nd through 4th line are very interchangeable.
The only thing i whole heartedly disagree with you here is separating 11 and 20. There synergy is spectacular.
I could totally see this though
13-28-19
88-23-73 (this line actually had excellent numbers)

Fair enough, I guess the lines all depend on who you see making that line click. Coleman and Backlund are great together but I think the pairing of Mangiapane and Backlund are more of a threat and work better. Strictly the eye test, either or is a good option really. This team has no problems in the middle 6 if Monahan half returns to form.

Probalby pretty realistic for what this management has always done, nothing wrong with that. I think Valimaki is moved and I think Gudbranson gets a bit of a raise from what you have here, I have seen your argument for it I just think that 1.5 is too low.
Do you think that they bring Pelletier in on the 4th line? Especially with Ruzicka. With Monahan being a bit of an unknown, and I fully expect him to start next season as the 3C for the Flames I think they put him with Coleman, tough to break up that second line but Toffoli and Monahan don't work for the same reason Monahan and Tkachuk were never a thing, borderline slowest line in hockey. If we are working with the roster about I think you're looking at

He nearly retired at the start of the 2020-21 season, his body is beat and he's won everything there is to win. It's not likely but certainly a possibility. He's owed next to nothing after July 1st, it's exactly the kind of contract teams looking to reach the cap floor are looking for.

Draft Slaf Sign Johnny Clean up the depth Win Finally
Gaudreau is going max term regardless of where. If he signs for 6 he is 35 at the end of that contract. Unlikely he gets another deal north of 9M at that point leaving nearly 20M in career earnings on the table. Makes Calgary's 8 years very attractive at 9.75M but on a 7 year deal you have to think he's north of 10 at least.

I think they put a rule in after Orpik, I could be completely wrong. Flames had some issues with it as well when they bought out Stone at 3.5M then re signed him a month later to the league minimum so really none of it makes sense. Only reason I think it's a problem is because I asked if the same could be done for a guy like Monahan but it was shut down pretty quick due to cap rules.

I mean if you pay them all appropriately then it's as simple as moving Dube or Valimaki. 3 of those guys on the roster won't be in the NHL, Monahan will be playing so that's another roster spot. There's really no cap hell at all. It's tight but it's veeeerrry far from a cap hell.

For sure, Pelletier was great this season, likely ready to come up but there was no where to put him. If he came up the only open spot was 4LW which would be a horrible spot for an undersized rookie. If he plays middle six with one of Coleman or Backlund on his line he's in great shape to start the year in the line up. Gaudreau for sure gets 10+ without the 8th year, he gets Panarin money on the open market, on an 8 year deal he will be 10 or under I think.

I would drop Sandford move Coleman to his spot and put Pelletier on that 3rd line, I don't think both Johnny and Tkachuk come in at 10M but I also think you're low on Mangiapane, it all probably works out in the wash.
Valimaki will be very interesting to watch, I think Mackey has passed him in the depth chart and I think the Flames priorotize Mackey's game over Valimaki, wouldn't be shocked to see him shipped out this off season, he has a year long tiff eith Darryl Sutter's kind in the AHL.

Flames only have to move one of Lucic or Monahan to fit all their guys in, Dube, Valimaki could also move if there's a surprisingly big contract. The Flames move picks with Lucic before getting bent over on a Monahan trade. He likely stays in Calgary and starts the year at 3C

Honest Question Here
Because that's how prospects are valued. If Slafkovsky has a 10% chance of being better than Anderson he's doing it for 925K for the first 3 years then probably under 3M for the next few until then when he's paid like Anderson to be better or equal to than Anderson. Also moving the 2nd overall for a guy with 5 years at 5.5M as opposed to at least 7 years of control with a lower cap hit for most of those years is where a lot of the value is derived from. Teams like to have control of their prospects and develop them their own way, there's a ton of value in that.

I personally think 1 year $1.75 - $2 ish. He had a good season but there are still flaws in his game for sure. Prove he can do it again and then lock him up.

Islanders could help themselves with the cap by signing Kylington to a 1 year under $2M deal. 2 years walks him right to UFA, if you're going to go with that kind of cap hit it should be 3-4 years.

Keep the core and add some pieces to contend
Moving Tanev is a non starter for the Flames. Monahan likely stays with the team and they use assets to move Lucic instead. I also don't think anyone waives to Arizona so you'd have to find a Detroit like team that could take on that hit.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jacobla</b></div><div>why is a team paying you to take on an awful contract when you have cap problems?</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Drshnuckels91</b></div><div>Edmonton will take it but arizona laughs at u and blocks ur phone number</div></div>
Take a look at Detroit posts, there's a lot of good back and forth about Monahan there, the thought that Calgary will need to spend an astronomical amount to move him is just silly at this point.

Whats the Cost on These Guys
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ledge_And_Dairy</b></div><div>Why not give Mackey or Valimaki a shot? Same thing with bringing back Gudbranson over Mayfield, I bet we could easily sign him to that same contract to fill the exact same role. Just feels like the wrong focus on needs. tbh Stanley is the only one that I would really want of that group</div></div>
Completely unbased, in my own head only opinion but I think Valimaki has fallen completely out of favour in Calgary since his little Sutter feud in the AHL this season. It shouldn't effect the player and development but I think they jumped on signing Mackey to fill the bottom pairing this coming season. I think he's the first piece moved this off season.
I do think Gudbranson comes in at more than Mayfield, statistically that's a career year for him analytically and standard stats. I think a team desperate on the right could pay him more than Calgary would be willing to. I would love to have him back between 1.5 and 2 for two years if it lowers the cap hit but look at what Edmonton has in terms of cap issues this year because of 1 year too many on deals. Keith, Foegele, Ryan, Smith all off the books would pay for Evander Kane.
Stanley is one of my favourite targets this off season, low cost, replaces Zadorov's edge with less mind blowingly strange pinches in the neutral zone.
