Both of these trades are frankly horrendous, but the Philly one is especially heinous to give away Zegras for a problem contract and a throw away pick.

Justice for what? Your front office are the ones who screwed the pooch with Gauthier and they got the best deal available for him.

For the millionth and first time, Anaheim not moving Zegras for a quantity return that just turns into a bunch of middle 6 pieces, if that.
You want Zegras, offer Reinbacher or 5OA as the base of the trade.

I think after that playoff run you're going to have trouble getting Mitts to sign that deal, guy was fumbling his bag in the regular season but came up big time in the post season, and it's be pretty easy to write his slow start off to his new team as adapting to the system and altitude for his new home.

1Cs don't grow on trees, and they don't come cheap either. A middle 6 LW is a long way off from Zegras, and the gap isn't closed by Brink whom were not at all interested in.

That's going to be a no from Anaheim. You lot need to let your McTavish fantasies go, we went off board for him at 3OA for a reason.

Retention spot is a retention spot. Besides that, McGinn is a positive asset at 1.3 so yeah, the least you can do is offer a 4th.

terrible trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>svfsdv</b></div><div>To be fair, Marner is worth way more than any single pick, as he is already established as the guy you hope any pick might become. And it has to be assumed by anyone who knows hockey that a Marner trade would come with an extension attached. I dont think anyone believe any team is taking Marner as a rental. Marner would not waive to be rental. And obviously the Leafs are not trading Marner for an old UFA player who never plays full seasons of hockey. The 3OA pick plus is a reasonable price for Marner with and extension attached. Problem is, ANA doesnt really have any valueable plus's lol Leaf want D and they dont have any that they would want</div></div>
He's shown he can't run his own line when it matters most, but he demands to be compensated like a guy who can, and he refuses to change his game when it isn't working, and can't elevate himself when he needs to.
Now, the question is, had Mitch been drafted by a different team, would he be paid his worth instead of overpaid, and thus not be a problem for his team? Hard to know, but at his salary, Ducks aren't going to touch him.

10th overall pick for a goalie
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NHLfan10506</b></div><div>Even for three years…retaining $2.4m would be worth it if there was a guy they liked at #10 (even retaining 50%). It always depends on how the draft goes. Unless Ducks try to push up their window.</div></div>
If Verbeeks making a push to fight for a wildcard spot, moving Gibson goes against that stated goal. There weren't any games this season where the team was playing great but he threw the win away, games he got pummeled the rest of the team didn't show up either, yet there are wins he still steals for us.
Moving him means we need to go get a tandem for Dostal who is still showing to be very streaky despite his skill, and the UFA market is incredibly weak for goalies this year. We'd have to burn draft capital to go acquire a goalie instead.
I figure the best case scenario for NJ is to grab a young goalie that has promise to pair with Allen as a veteran mentor and solid backup. Gus, Knight, and maybe Hill are those guys. Nashville probably isn't moving on from Askarov yet.

Younger upfront and Dman changes
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>DubasJr</b></div><div>Marner can drive his own line though. Maybe not in playoffs but in the regular season he defiantly can. He jumped around between Matthews and JT this year and he is often the guy with the puck on his stick when something amazing happens. Even dating back to the Babcock days when he played with Bozak and JVR, he was the guy making the plays, creating space and setting up his teammates. He made JVR close to a 40 goal scorer. He elevates players around him (in the regular season, which is where Anaheim needs success, as of right now.)
NMC is a good point but there will be suitors and probably a handful of them. It’s often very common where a player of Marner’s ability gets traded with an extension or with the intention of signing where he’s waiving to go, which will increase the value for the Leafs, as well. I think people may be blowing the NMC thing out of proportion because it’s the leafs, we’ve seen players moves for hauls before with them.
Maybe I was wrong to assume Anaheim would trade McTavish but a “McTavish” level player and some picks isn’t outrageous by any means. And honestly, I would be happy with a PLD return, vilardi, Iafallo (type players) + picks and prospects would be great for the leafs.
But I defiantly see where you’re coming from. McTavish is your young stud and you wanna see him grow along with all the other guys the ducks have drafted.</div></div>
You kind of just pointed out the problem, when he's bouncing between Tavares and Matthews he's great. Yeah, a highly skilled playmaker bouncing between a superstar center and a generational talent center is going to have a ton of success. It's when he was given a lesser line to lead that he fell flat when he needed to elevate his game. Zegras and Carlson are both high IQ playmakers as well, we need guys who can shoot. Nylander was a target for us, he fits what the team lacks and Verbeek covets, Mariners just not that guy for us.

LaCombe cost Anaheim fans
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>StDetroitBlueWings</b></div><div>Robertsson most likely considering Sylvegard was just signed. Doubt we would sign him just to immediately trade him away.
I'd even do a 2nd + 3rd for LaCombe if that was interesting. Although I'd rather a lower pick than a 3rd to hopefully still have our 1st, 2nd, and 3rd to attempt to move up to around 10/11</div></div>
Robertson is a pretty uninteresting piece as a 21 year old that got demoted from the SHL to the second league, seems like he'll never play in the show, and at that point we'd be giving LaCombe away, at least Sylvegard looks like he'll play in the NHL with some success.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>DubasJr</b></div><div>Ya I mean fair he hasn’t won anything in T.O but he’s still an all star player on both sides of the puck. Something I personally think ANA is missing.
I called him mr glass bc I had him in fantasy this year and even tho he played 60 something games it felt like he was always hurt. Solid 2 months of the season where he was in and out of the lineup.</div></div>
Players miss time, made of glass is a designation that can be given to Kirby Dach or Patrik Laine, McTavish is by and large healthy all year, but there was no point pushing him to stay in the lineup for a lost season when he was banged up, it's better to let those injuries heal.
The allure of an all star level player is that they should be able to drive their own line, that's usually the center's job, but it's great when a wing can, and if they can, they can demand huge salaries. That's why Kane got the first 8 digit cap hit for a winger, he could drive his own line, and he could do it in the playoffs. Marner has shown he can't drive his own line, elite as he may be, he's just a support player, and you don't give support players Marner kind of money if you expect to have a team that works. Add to that McTavish is the kind of player Verbeek covets, Marner is not, and unless you can get a 31 team bidding war going with a full waiving of his NMC, you cant even ask for a player of McTavish's status coming the other way. You'll get a PLD return of a late first and some prospects that had high hopes but we're blocked from rising up in their current orgs.

A later 2nd is probably right at reasonable value, maybe a minor sweetener to get it done, but not much needed. Question comes down to is that a deal Anaheim interested in doing, to which I say it's probably not. There's not really any need for us to keep stacking lotto tickets we've got a pretty good base already.
The trade up option is appealing to us since many of us have our sights set on MBD in the draft. Other options would be to trade him for a middle 6 Right shot forward of appropriate age range, or a middle pairing potential RHD of appropriate age. Sylvegard might be an interesting option.
