Don't pretend your snarky reply was constructive criticism either, because there was nothing constructive or informative about it.
Go take a look at the returns for "rentals" like Meier, PLD, giroux, etc., and then take a second to remember what marner has done in the league so you can put some respect on his name. None of those players are cap dumps, so this isn't "criticism", it's just plain ignorance.
I purposely tried to make these as unbiased as possible, you're just too simple to see that. Try picking an easier target next time you pretender!</div></div>
no actually Dubas doesn't want him. You can delete your account when he doesn't trade for him.
They don't need some weak middle 6 LW. They already have Bunting and DOC in those rolls.
There is 0 chance he trades for him.
No one is giving you that on marner. No one. He's a rental, who expects an massive 12 12.5 mil extension. Good luck with that, he's not worth it.
He's not even worth the 11 mil he makes now. Good lucking finding anyone giving you up anything for taking on an 11 mil cap hit on a guy with a no trade clause in a rental year.
You have 0 leverage. Only in your imaginary head do you think you are getting some huge return.
Here is some real facts. He'll be playing in TOR next year, probably walk out a FA.

He already bet on himself. He had the contract on the table in front of him, he didn't sign it. Now he's paying the price on it.
Because these ideas people have where teams hand him 7-8 mil.... not happening.
His play was bad on 2 teams this year. He's not going to get paid big bucks on that. His playoffs are ok. Against NSH he had 2 goals and 1 assist for 3 points in 6 games.
It wasn't till he hit EDM who has a garbage goalie that he produced anything significant.
So I'm not sold on that performance.
If someone hands him a big 7 year deal, it has such a high probability of being a trash deal. Why would any GM do that, they wouldn't. While signing 2 year deal isn't idea, if he plays better he can get paid.
It might not be a 7 year deal, it might be a 5 year deal or whatever, but getting paid more those 5 years is worth it.

yeah it's so well thought out it ignores like 30 penguins fans on here all telling TOR they aren't trading and don't want Järnkrok.
Absolutely clueless.
Maybe try taking criticism without being so touchy eh?
You aren't the first one to propose this. Every time it's shot down. Try getting the point.
No one is trading for your cap dumps. No one.
They aren't worth nearly what your "well thought out" head thinks.
Just like your not getting a large return on rental Marner.

wow what bold statements :tearsofjoy
he won't make less... than the 4.8 he made this year. So yeah maybe he hits 5 like I said before.
Given his 42 point year. He might get a bump for playing Center.
As far as he won't sign a 2 year deal. You really think he wants to sign a 7 year deal at 5?
How much money is he leaving on the table there if he plays well?
Kind of the funny thing about sports. When you don't play well, you don't get paid. So you might want to bet on yourself after not playing well and try again.

It's really embarrassing how bad this is.
I love how TOR fans desperately want EDM fans to have the same issues they have. Their ego always viewed EDM as the "incompetent" tire fire organization.
But it turns out it was the other way around the whole time eh?

who cares what he wants. He was a 40 point player this year. Only a stupid GM would give him some huge contract. That contract above is about right on his AVA, maybe he hits 5.
He should probably work on a 1-2 year deal though. So he can bet on himself.
The real contract problem here is Monahan. He put up 60 points this year. He's not signing for 2.75 mil. He earned the 5.5 he'll probably get.
I don't know why he signed him to begin with. DOC is too good to be sitting 4th line. So they have no need for Monahan.
Could probably play any number of young players in the 4LW spot and sign a better 3LD.

What If We Were Bold After 2nd Cup
this is so unrealistic.
It's not even worth going past the EDM trade that was never going to happen.
While this team did make mistakes after the 2nd cup, those were more due to an arrogant coach who's head got sooooo big because Crosby and crew dragged him along on a cup.
The team fell apart at the trading of the defense and Kessel. Both Sully chased out.
That's all there really is to it.
Not only did he chase good players out the room, but he also lost the room.
The boldest move they could have made, was to side with the players and not Sully and fired him.
The team would have been better off.
But hey, we will all get to see how poor a team USA hockey will be with Sully as coach.

Taking on 3 big contracts
so the penguins take on 3 really bad contracts and get nothing back for it?
I mean Dubois I wouldn't touch that with a 10 foot pole. He'll never be happy here anyway so I can only imagine the toxicity that will entail.
Norris contract is nothing but a head ache. Every year he's on IR due to his shoulder and you can never use that massive cap hit of his to build a real team knowing he'll just be back next year messing up the cap again. Why even go through that head ache.
Both Smith and Acciari's contracts end this year....stop extending the pain. There is no need to.
The CAR trade is the only one here that is "reasonable" but that depends on what other options we have to get rid of Rakell. If this is the only option I would consider it. But I think it's a crap deal either way.
I'd really like to trade Rakell for Elvis in CBJ and let him back up Blom

I don't think they are going to give him a say if they move him. But when they do, they will give the other team a chance to talk to him.
Thing is, there is no reason for them to A. trade him, and B. there is no reason for him to agree on taking a contract.
Just like Guentzel wouldn't agree to it.
Guys want to pick their path.... not let a trade pick it for them.
As they can earn more and pick a place they want to play.
But none of that matters because he's most likely getting resigned.

Maybe A 3C Trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Play_Party_Hard</b></div><div>- It would be nice to get a mid-round pick for Smith, but we shall see. I beg to differ on Gourde, he is the type of player this bottom-six needs. Would be a great 3C in Sullivan's system with both PK and PP ability. He only comes with one year as well - right up the GM's alley. With his hands somewhat tied, I find it more likely that Dubas will need to swap a contract at some point this summer.
- I understand there is some risk with Kylington, thus the one-year contract. He probably can come a little bit cheaper. I look at the Bruins' model this past offseason. They got criticized for signing what were deemed "irrelevant players." They contended for their division and won a playoff round. I can see Dubas using this methodology. The Pro Scouts have to get to work. Like I said, his hands are slightly tied and sending substantial futures should be off the table.
- In UFA, most contracts tend to be unfavorable. IF Dubas does get to move out Smith, he will have a little bit of luxury to spend where he should: the bottom-six and LHD. Sometimes a player's breakout year comes a little later in their career. Joshua would be a fine add for a bottom-six that needs more goals.
- These Penguins ACGMs with 5 or 6 trades just aren't realistic. Dubas is going to dig into the UFA market and make some fans go "huh?" Maybe there will be one splash signing at most. I get this website is fun, but the fanbase has to come down to Earth a little bit.</div></div>
I think their spending is going to be different than you think. They will make 1 big move. It will be a 1LW. I'm almost certain of that.
Instead of spending 4 on Joshua they will spend 6 or 6.5 on Teräväinen. Which is better use of cap.
You are too worried about bottom 6 forwards. Gourde isn't some great replacement contract to Smith.
He's a small forward who's old, and frankly that's not really keen for a bottom 6 role.
I have no problem keeping Smith rather than swapping him out for a player like that who is more expensive. At some point you are just digging deeper in the hole for lost treasure. Forget that.
This team is loaded with young centers. Poulin, Broz, Ponomarev that's not even including Yager.
So looking to swap Smith out just to bring in another bad contract doesn't even make sense.
If they move him it should be for a pick and don't retain. Otherwise, just play it out. The grass isn't always greener.

big offseason
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Marcsnack</b></div><div>Although I agree, the only reason we may not get more is because there will be a decent amount of goalies on the market.
Gibson, Markstrom, Gustavsson, Saros, Binnington/Hofer, Vejmelka, Merzlikins & Ullmark are all guys who have been mentioned in trade talks.
The teams who could have interest in acquiring a goalie would/could be EDM, LAK, COL, NJD, PHI, BUF, DET, OTT & TOR, and some of these are stretches, so because there are so many available goalies, and only some of these teams really need to starter, it might drop values overall.</div></div>
In almost every case there the team that moves out a goalie is going to need to replace one. Look at Markstrom who is going to fill the spot? Wolf, He had a .893 save% last year at the NHL level. He's not ready for a full time role yet. That same is true with Saros, who replaces him?
The same is true down the line. Almost every case there is the same. You look at Merzlikins, he struggled worse than Jarry last year. That's a hard contract to move because of it, even CBJ fans know that.
The one guy on there you can count is Ullmark.
There are just more holes than there goalies. The teams who are looking don't want to fill with the likes of Merzlikins as most of them are trying to be playoff teams. I mean EDM, LAK, COL, NJ, DET, and TOR were either in or were close and wanted to be in last year. They will be looking for a better goalie than guys like Merzlikins and Givson who's fallen off.
So while I agree there are goalies on the Market, it's just musical chairs. The teams who have a guy to move in, need to move a guy out to do it, like the penguins. But a lot of them aren't in a hurry because they don't have to be. Like STL doesn't need to move Binnington because Hofer is on a league min deal. They can wait it out and see what happens and they probably will.
So the market I think is more scarce than you realize.

the penguins aren't paying to take a headache off your hands.
Gonna be hard for you to find a team willing to take Norris.
8 mil for a lot of years on a guy who may or may not play at any given point a time isn't exactly a hot commodity or something anyone wants to construct their cap around.
I mean it's not like he's Mark Stone and knows when to be injured and when not to.

PIT doesn't need to trade EK.
I'm not against them moving him if the return is right, but they are under no pressure to do so.
If they do move him, It's going to cost at least a 1st. They aren't moving him for a 2nd a cap dump, and a cap headache because they are 8 mil per and always on LTIR.
Especially when that guy has less than 40 points in 3 of the last 4 years. No one wants to have to build their cap around that.
To be honest, OTT might be better off convincing him to retire and be perm LTIR. He got his money, he can stop being a constant issue on OTT cap.
Constantly having to build a team around, if he comes back for those 40 games every year, just isn't worth the head ache. OTT can use that cap better.

I think we can do better. I mean the 2nd I think we will both agree is going to be a standard piece.
Here you got a 5'7" center and a 4th liner.
Neither one of which is really appealing. Really it's like scraping the bottom of the barrel as far as return.
I'd rather get back a LDH prospect/young player from a team like NJ or OTT. The penguins don't need any help brining in AHL and replacement level guys.
