Yeah, Andersen may not be the perfect fix, but I think he'd make a great tandem with Skinner. EDM just can't really afford to add him without sending salary back which I imagine kinda negates some of the point of CAR moving him.

I don't imagine they're unaware of the future Dmen, just that you only listed 5 names and adding a solid veteran for the 3rd pairing seems like a pretty wise plan when breaking in a rookie or two. Also, isn't Nikishin staying in Russia for one more year?

I've seen him being traded for 3rds and 5ths on here so I figured it was worth exploring, especially given all of CAR's pending UFAs. In your eyes, are those trading him for mid-round picks simply overreacting to CAR losing in the playoffs again?

Who could fill the last two spots
Given that you've set up a forward group with a maximum of 2 defensively responsible forwards (Nuge and Carrick), probably some damn PKers that can also hold their own 5-on-5 :tearsofjoy
All-in-all, I'm not enthused by your choices. You made the team slower (McLeod, Janmark, and Brown out) and more mistake-prone, but at least you made them younger and more physical. I think there's a better balance to strike than what you've done here. I also don't think EDM should have to pay an extra pick in that trade with SJ. Ceci for Kostin straight up. If I'm gonna pay a pick, I want a clean disposition of Ceci's full 3.25mil so I can use it for better players than Kostin.

Draisaitl era
These offers for Draisaitl are somehow getting worse. This one isn't the worst I've seen but y'all really gotta think this through more. Take whatever package you'd require for Pastrnak and then an extra high pick worth of value because Leon is a C. That's the kind of return you'd need to offer.

A serious conversation is needed about this team
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GMBL</b></div><div>A lot of contenders have trouble balancing giving opportunities to young talent, but what confuses me with the Oilers is that they don't really trust their bottom-6 guys, might as well give some rookies a shot, or trade them for proven talent. There are of course the cap obstacles but after/as he's clearing out Chiarelli's mess, Holland shoots himself in the foot with the Nurse contract during the flat cap.</div></div>
What gets me about the Nurse contract is that it was set in motion by his choice to give Kassian that very ill-advised 3.25mil contract to and to pay Chiasson the 2.15mil he chose to. Had he not done even just one of those two, he'd have had an extra 1.15 to 2.25mil in cap to offer Nurse in exchange for more term while replacing either of the other two (or both) with a player of similar capacities at ~1mil. Does anyone think Nurse would've refused between 6.75 and 7.85mil on a long-term deal during the 2019-20 season?
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GMBL</b></div><div>Honestly, I think Draisaitl will be done with this team if they go out in round 2. He might stay out the year though, and give it one last go before he tests free agency which is when things would likely spiral downwards from there. If he requests a trade maybe they can do something but considering that he's making only 8.5M, if they can't move someone they are only going to be able to replace him with one, maybe two, roster player(s) unless they get an ELC. Chances are the impact brought by those players won't be sufficient. They'll have to convince Nurse to waive and try to pawn him off elsewhere. They'll have next year and the one following to convince McDavid to stay.</div></div>
If I were the new GM, I'd have a very forthright discussion with both McDavid and Draisaitl this summer about the future and the team's path forward. If either (or both) aren't convinced by the direction laid out and 100% resolved to stick around and make themselves Oilers legends, then I strongly consider moving on from both of them. Build a team with Hyman as the captain embodying the team's new identity.

Zero chance EDM is paying a 2nd to move Kulak. Might be able to get him for free due to the cap situation, but I imagine he'd still return a late round pick.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GMBL</b></div><div>Since McDavid, none of the skater prospects have panned out/made much of an impact except Bouchard.</div></div>
I don't think there's enough noise made about this among Oilers fans. I think failing to give Lavoie any sort of chance at playing with top-6 talent this year and now not even having him among the black aces (despite Bourgault getting both) is a missed opportunity. I think the unwillingness to even try Broberg alongside Nurse while that pairing has struggled is another example and in past years there've been other examples. While veteran players are a very valuable and stabilising asset, team's also need the energy & unpredictability brought by young players.
The new management team needs to correct this in order for McDavid and Draisaitl to see a future on this team. Sure, they should want to push for a Cup but if the team around them is crumbling without any reinforcements on the horizon, do you really think they'll be willing to commit to re-signing with the team?

I can agree that Binnington may be a worthy target but disagree with how you went about getting him & building out the roster in front of him.
I take issue with the price you paid as you seem to be treating Skinner as a cap dump. Otherwise, giving up a 1st, a younger starting goalie, and two players from the team's already diminished prospect pool is a radical overpayment in my estimation. The highest I'd go is Skinner and a '26 2nd (maybe add a condition that it becomes a 1st if EDM wins the Cup before then).
Next is that your solution occupies an extra 3.4mil of space that I'd rather see used for other purposes. My solution would start by getting Nurse an actual top-4 RD as a partner. One that can skate, defend well, and hopefully can even make a decent breakout pass. The past 5 years has seen him play primarily top pairing minutes with either Ceci, Barrie, and Bear- each of whom suffers from two of three particularly limiting defensive deficiencies: below average skating, poor positioning, or being smaller than average. My main target for that is A. Carrier but there are a decent number of RD upgrades available this offseason who could such a role (one of whom you sign, so we agree there).
Lastly, I take some issue with the particulars of the moves you made. Your choices end up leaving the forward corps both lacking in scoring punch and (somehow) even older than before and it's seemingly because of the extra money you put towards the goaltending. That's the last thing this team needs more of. What they need is an infusion of speed & prime-aged players in the 24-29 range. Players that are both mature and still have the capacity to infuse energy & pace.

Craziest hockey trade
So that's a soon-to-be-UFA elite goalie, a 31 year old 1C, a substantial cap dump with 2 years left, an RFA LD, three 1sts and a couple of middling prospects. For an offer for McDavid alone to be even remotely serious it would need to have a centerpiece with more long-term appeal than what you've offered. The fact that your proposal also includes the other pieces only makes it much worse. You somehow even have EDM taking on more cap which would be a non-starter.

Certainly fair to ask :) Re: Broberg, he'll be 23 by next season. That's not a late start to a full-time NHL career for a Dman, especially not when he's behind a strong and remarkably healthy LD group.

EDM likely won't have interest in moving either Holloway or Broberg as they need young, cheap roster players. Both are on-track to break into the league full-time next year and neither is likely to be on more than a 1mil cap hit.

It just isn't happening. The best offer you can make is Ullmark, Carlo, Poitras, and that 1st in 2026 and that would likely be beaten. Unless Drai comes out and demands a trade and says he'll only go to BOS at which point all common sense collapses.

At some point you guys will have to grasp that BOS simply doesn't have the assets (that they'd move) to get a deal done for Drai. There's no combination of Ullmark, Carlo, prospects & picks that gets such a deal done.

An Outsiders Vision - CBJ
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hockey_Soul</b></div><div>Pretty solid. I would just switch Sillinger and Jenner.
I think they absolutely have to add a vet dman like Tinordi on a one year deal this year to support the young guys and provide some depth.
My one (or two) wish(es) would be finding an upgrade for Laine and/or Merzlikins.</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dopplsan</b></div><div>I like these…CBJ are at a weird place with the rebuild. A roster full of mostly young guys who just need the development and opportunity. Not really a lot of worthwhile vets who can be moved. Provorov will get moved, Laine as well (assuming he comes back healthy and can get back to the PPG player he showed flashes of), and I could see an Elvis buy-out either this off-season or next.
The G situation will need another year since Greaves is still waivers exempt, and has looked great in the AHL and limited NHL time (considering the team in front of him). Maybe Ivanov ends up being the real deal (he’s been a stud in the KHL), but he’s still best-case a few years away.
My only issue is the Marchy and Chinny contracts. I’d like to see M’s longer, and C’s shorter. He had a great breakout-season, but still had some injury problems, and I’d want to see him replicate it.</div></div>
Okay, thanks for the input! I decided to keep Merzi because I figured there wasn't a huge press to solve the problem this year and, since I don't really see a great candidate to swap with (apart from maybe Husso in Detroit), I figured it wise to leave it until next year. I feel similarly about Laine.
As for the Marchinny contracts, I can see what you mean, but I think they're well positioned to gamble a bit on Chinakhov. If you were to adjust them, would you think something like 4 * 3 for Chinakhov and 5.5 * 5 for Marchenko? Or would your aim to go long-term for Marchenko even if it costs upwards of 7mil?

The cap penalties are included by default already (see 'Overages' in the bar with roster size & cap hit).
Apart from that, you've <strong>aggressively</strong> overpaid Desharnais, gotten too much in return for both Kulak & Ceci, targeted a goalie that's similarly liable to crumble in the postseason as Skinner, and done so while dressing a variety of players that either aren't ready or who've fallen below replacement level.
