Jarry + Graves for Marner and I'd do it.

I agree, on Pittsburghs side I would not take this trade. Yes the trade would involve a Marner resigning. I can argue a Jarry and Peterson because there is more leverage than is shown as leafs can choose to keep Marner with salary cap increasing and Tavares either leaving or accepting a big pay cut.
That being said, the article in question involved two firsts, I changed it to 1 first and and 2nd. And I still think it would be an overpay on Pittsburgh side. If a draft pick was added to my above trade, I would think like a future second to Toronto for a future 4 going back.
As you said, leafs do lack leverage with Marners no trade, and thus there is big context needed with any trade.
I personally don't see the leafs trading Marner because I don't see teams wanting to trade what the leafs want/need and thus the core will continue.

MacT at the moment is not as good as Marner but still great provides and thus on paper the trade is on value for a projected yearly 100 points player. But on paper is where it ends. MacT is a leader and younger and showing year after year great improvement and quite possible could be an even player than Marner. Even if he doesn't his style of play is way different and all teams would benefited for a player like MacT. Thus as many said. MacT is fully untouchable by the ducks.
On the leafs side, Gibsons play has been slowly deteriorating. He is not the same as he was. This using him as a starter could very well be a repeat of Sammy. He will have his good and his bad weeks of play. Because of Wolls injury history we need a much more consistent 1b-1a goalie. So leafs have no need for Gibson. Add in that Gibson may not still want to go to Toronto proves a big no go by players and/or management by such a trade.

That's exactly what I am doing, I am entertaining the thought to think of a potential lineup based on the idea the writer only presented what he thought could be 4 different Marner trades. This is fantasy GM site for playing with thoughts and opinions.

Whole heartedly agree. I forget where but I saw one article whom projected Roy between 5.5 and 6.5, Pesce at 6.5-7.5 and Skjej at 7-8. Ironically the Dobber hockey had Skjej at 5.5 if I remember.
All I say is I wish Dobber Hockey is the actual salaries and that the original teams somehow magically refuse to resign as than our defense can actually improve quite easily lol!

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>palhal</b></div><div>It's such a bad trade Seattle. They take on so much cap, all that for rental. Why do Leaf fans keep on repeating the same nonsensical trades. Even worse they always show the Leaf side of the trade, not the 7m extra cap that Seattle takes on. Can Seattle even afford such the trade?</div></div>
I was merely looking at the idea as was presented by a writer off of Sportsnet. The viability of such a trade so both sides is and always will be a big hindrance. The writer explained his reasoning while it made sense there is a big problem which is also always presented on here. It is of the opinion of one guy and his thoughts. That does not mean that Seattle of Treliving thinks the same. As was mentioned by other commenters would Francis do such a trade... That I cannot answer and agree where they argue he may not even consider it. His values on said players are different than the writers. For the Leafs same thing, what does Tre value for Marner.
Of course it's needless to be said all trades are hypothetical upon Marner resigning so a sign and trade type of deal.

I personally like Montour. He is exactly the type of defenseman that all analysts have said leafs are missing. It's the same reason we signed klingberg. Aside from Reilly and Timmins and sometimes Liljegren we have no puck moving defenseman that can help drive the offense. We played heavy this year and the defense looked better but once again had trouble bringing the puck out. Montour can be a huge help for that as he is also right handed.
That being said, at 9 million, I am scared of that being a major overpay. I would look at 6.75 to 7.5 million max.

I agree, I had thought about that. But this also allows Ottawa to look at trading chychrun.
Forsberg could be a good 1b option for us as he has shown some good starter moments for Ottawa.

Jarnkrok is a salary add in to give the flames a good solid middle 6 forward that they liked before. For one year a player very capable on penalty kill and scoring 15-20 goals. If anything, he helps with experience and gives an asset to trade at the deadline for a 2 or 3 round draft pick.

Leafs are't trading for 6m goalie. Just sign a UFA.</div></div>
I played around with a potential trade and yes while they don't save a lot of cap space, they can still resign marchessault and create a scary lineup where marchessault, hertl, Marner is a 2nd line. In terms of the goalie trades AI was able to make the money work for what is a #1 goalie and only 2 years. A Markstrom/woll tandem will be way better than this past year.
That being said, it is highly unlikely. If Vegas looks to clear salary it will most likely not be with Petri. Karlsson maybe but most likely not petri.

A decent trade for Marner. I would prefer a 2025/2026 1st more. Problem with the trade though is the hard high salary of Tkachuk and Stutzle. I am not sure if Ottawa will be willing to give the contract demands of 10.5-12.5 million mariners camp will want which negates any possible idea.

This is a good lineup and a trade I can maybe wrap my head around for Marner if he waives. It's not a pure win for toronto but a trade where some of his offense is replaced and we get a good potential young defender in luneau. Overall a good job and a revamp I can see potential with.

And that is his right. Which Anaheim is right to value. The idea is maybe Fowler says I want another crack and if you get a decent worthwhile deal, you can trade me..then I can see Toronto a good team with great high end talent and an obvious hole on defense for good minutes as an option. If as you said he wants to remain a duck, then he remains a duck.

I won't repeat my opinion on the Jarnkrok value...I will let Ducks fans comment on that one.</div></div>
Robertson was actually second on 5v5 goals percentage on the leafs second to only Matthews. Many insiders and advanced stats analysts have stated how Robertson has actually played very deserving of a role on the leafs. The problem is yea he is still developing defensively. But guess guess what he is actually still young and learning. The ceiling for a high end top 6 scorer is still there. Not a fringe guy. As for Jarnkrok, as mentioned before, his production and defensive value speaks for itself when much apose player end up getting 3rds, 2nds, and even 1sts. The off-season I can see a hesitancy but in a deal like Jarnkrok is a middle six forward capable of all positions to help. For a team like Anaheim at a low contract is very valuable. As for the deal Fowler is on his back end so a deal like this is very valuable. It all depends based on another commenter. Does Fowler want to stay which is his right. Or does he say he wants one more crack at a another cup and say he is willing to trade is Anaheim has decent value.

Jarnkrok is a hard player to justify. On play alone when he is capable of scoring 15-20 goals easily every year, great defensively and capable of moving anywhere in the lineup a 2nd round pick is justifiable easily on a decently good contract. That being said, he is a UFA after this year, so during the off-season, this will either hurt or hinder the value. As a deadline move, I can see a team spending a 2nd, over the off-season though, they may want to spend less unless they can guarantee a resign. So while I can argue the value, I cannot argue with the fact that he can easily command less.

If walker wants more, there are other options to help replace. Domi and Bertuzzi for me is a toss up both had great flashes. Main reason why I look at Domi is that he is great of switching from wing to center when needed which can help greatly depth wise. I would not argue debrusk at about 5 million. It is a risk but most free agency is a big risk and I can see debrusk helping he leafs.

Can we stop kidding ourselves with Marner
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Carleton</b></div><div>Matthews, Marner, Mo, Tavares. Woll. (and our prospects)
That's it. Everyone else is fair game. If we lose this series clear the house.</div></div>
Even then I view as fair game problem is, Matthews needs an upgrade. Then who Mcdavid, ummm yep Matthews stays. Reilly, who will give an defense upgrade for him... Yep probably stays. Marner the odds of extracting the value needed then yea probably stays. Nylander was signed to a deal that all GMs agreed was on par with what they would sign making him a potential deal but its he same reason as Marner where the odds of extracting the value we need is slim.
So yea it makes it hard to just blow it up and clear the house when you think that ownership will continue to rack in the profits. They lose this series, I can see Keefe and all coaching purged. Shanahan I can see staying but only for 1 year to see if he along with Treliving can right the ship as shanahan just signed Treliving. But both will be on the hot seat big time. Tavares will be offered a take it of leave it deal that is low. Woll, I don't see a better young goalie whom we can extract for him and thus yea we try him as our goalie and I am all for it. I believe he struggled because it is hard to come back from a high ankle sprain but his overall play has consistently been very solid.
It's too bad we drafted Scott instead of Swayman but no regrets before the injuries it was all woll and Scott for us in the minor leagues proving they were both great prospects. Scott just couldnt overcome him injuries. There was no way to predict the career paths of both goalies but man what could a been.
