I don't think OTT would accept this. This barely saves them cap over buying out Korpi, which they would prefer to giving up a 2nd rounder to a divisional rival.

Dubas effect. Marner's dad would love for Kyle to overpay his son again.

True, but retain is only 4 years while a buyout would be 8 years of dead salary cap.

Buyout has the owner handing over $10+ million for nothing, retain at least only cost the owner $4 million.

I think there'd probably be more pieces going to OTT in the Korpi trade.

There's no way the Sens trade him right now, his trade stock is as close to negative as you can get.

They'll hope he has a bounce back year and then dump him for a positive gain.

Yeah I'd say they're gonna be forced to get rid of Forsy instead.

Forsberg being a 1 year rental for sure has trade bait written on him.

I only picked Korpi because of his longer contract and playoff success where he stonewalled the Leafs as the BJ's upset the Leafs.

Pens may not have the cap to take on Marner
No thanks for Korpisalo even at 3m, for four years.

I think Dubas found an organization which allow him to go full rebuild, so he'll move out contracts he doesn't like.

PIT isn't a trade partner for TOR.
Pens aren't going to pay a guy 12+ million as a bottom feeder team.
Marner isn't going to change that teams future so that 1st round pick is more valuable than he his.
As it stands right now I project that pick to be a top 5 pick. Hell they almost finished 8th this year, and the team will be 2 years older.
That pick would be a chance at a generational player. They aren't trading it for Marner.
