Cooley
Makes bigger holes on Utah than it fills, Utah has 6th oa, and a ridiculous amount of cap, to go buy who they want, they want Cooley top 2 centers for a decade.

Looking to re-structure a team by using UFAs isn't a good idea.
First it's expensive.
Second it's aging your team.
Third there is an unknown factor.
Fourth it takes time to build chemistry.
Fifth it can disrupt the locker room.

I agree but I am playing the ACGM game...and respecting the guy who posted this by doing so vs just saying NO or THIS WONT HAPPEN.

Knies: drafted in 2021, played a lot of EV time with Matthews and Marner, 15 goals and 35 points in his rookie year, winger = "maturing into dream winger"
Okay dude</div></div>
Do you actually watch games?
...what has he done? Wow points...he is a small skilled center....Ok maybe Rossi is 25 cents a dozen?
Knies is huge and tough and can drive to the net and create havoc for opposing D...he may never get 30 goals but I see a future playoff guy, if he wasn't already this year

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Bc44</b></div><div>Bottom line is the team isnt very good. This year Matthews taveres marner willy are all 1st line players as expected. Knies , Bertuzzi Domi and Jarnkrok are all putting up 4th line numbers most nights and everyone else is basically NHL/AHL bubble players. The Defence has Rielly top pair and everyone else is a number 4/5/6/7 on any given night. Its hard to coach an island of misfit Toys and even harder to Build the team u want as a gm with barley an offseason under his belt. In my opion the Leafs need to keep assets this year, add veteran inexpensive players on expireing deals, make the playoffs and see what happens. Then give Treliving an offseason to build his team.</div></div>
I think a new coach could go a long way at getting the best out of this team as it is currently constructed. Though, I also fear it might be too late. They've been playing together so long under Keefe that there might be culture conflicts that are hard to break. But they don't suck, they just aren't playing the right way.

Offseason 3
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>newballcoach</b></div><div>I'm not sure I agree with your thought on Aho>Marner, but I definitely agree this isn't the trade. That also leaves Toronto with four high-profile UFA's next season and the chances of keeping everyone are tough. Maybe they would look at something like this if Matthews and/or Nylander already had extensions signed so they knew what they were working with. But I don't see them backing themselves into a corner like this.
Carolina and Toronto are in very similar situations this offseason with needing cap flexibility for 2024 while needing to improve in the short-term. Should be fascinating to watch both teams operate. For this reason alone I don't think they're good trade partners.</div></div>
Im not saying Aho > Marner. Im saying it's incredibly circumstantial and in in general being a center drastically increases your value compared to being a winger. As it stands Carolina absolutely values Aho higher than Marner.
Carolina actually has loads of cap space this summer which is why going after someone like Marner has merit to it. I think a trade that would make significantly more sense would be something around Necas++ would make more sense to me. Necas has the ability to play center and is kind of a Marner lite style player but also younger

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ledge_And_Dairy</b></div><div>Lol. You clearly undervalue centers. They wouldn't trade Aho straight up for Marner. You know why? Because then Kotkaniemi would be their 1C.
There is definitely a world where Marner to Carolina makes sense but I highly doubt it involves either of those players</div></div>
