Necas could be decent upgrade for driving the offense with Dach line for sure.
For Laine, we are not in win now mode. No need to give away a ton of assets for two years of a high risk forward who hasn't played a full season since 2018- 2019.

I agree with your comment about them needing to draft defenseman and i do think all the top defenseman will be gone when they pick 14 but will smith looks too good to be traded away, i was going to post actually today a question to sharks fans who would they be willing to trade for some of Montreals D prospects

Marner deal that can work
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>habitantlecolon</b></div><div>As a dire and hard Habs fan, it's a huge NOPE. We do not need losers and cry babies. We had Hoffman it was enough.</div></div>
This Habs homer thing is frustrating at times. He is nothing like Hoffman. Hoffman was one of the worst defensive players every year. Marner is one of the best. He does it like Caufield is learning to do it, with an active stick and excellent skating.
Marner distributes the puck, Hoffman did not.
Marner creates offensive opportunities with his skating and vision, Hoffman would stand still and wait for the puck.
Marner is a leader on the penalty kill, Hoffman never sniffed a penalty kill until he played for a desperately injured Montreal team.
Marner is a PPG player in the playoffs.
This Marner hate is irrational and makes Habs fans look petty.

agreed, unfortunately most habs fans are either way too impatient or near-sighted to realize that simple fact

I think if they can lay hands on a player who is "as good" as Iginla will be in 3-4 years starting next season and all they need to do is add a LHD or another late 1st, they would be crazy to not do it.
The Habs want to be good ASAP and not in 3-4 years when lots of players are going to be on new very expensive deals.</div></div>
Look around the league, the habs don't want/should not want to be good asap... they are rebuilding the right way and playing the long game. Starting in 2026-27 once most of the powerhouses of the east are on the decline, they will be ready to start competing at the highest level for at least a decade

Leafs fans what would you want for Marner
I don't think the Habs should do the trade.
But as Leafs GM, the most important thing would be to get limited cap back in a trade, so $$$$ could be spend on UFAs this summer.
I would take two of three pieces of Beck, Mailoux and Matheson from your list.

MONTREAL MARNER
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TheFastAndTheFleuryous</b></div><div>Sensing a variety of opinions in this comment section. FWIW, as an outside observer, I think it’s pretty fair — Marner, despite his flaws, is still really good, and for a in-division deal, a 2D, 3C, 4-6D, 25-32 (or thereabouts) first rounder and a 50-64 second isn’t a terrible price to pay. It’s also probably not a price the Habs are willing to pay.</div></div>
I would say the deal has to lose both Savard and Reaves for any hope of going through. Habs need Savard as a mentor to our young RD and Leafs aren't gonna want to lose what little toughness they have

c'mon, in MTL with the group he would do well, did well last year. This year is just a **** show synergy wise for the Leafs.
MArner is still a TOP 5 RW in the league and with him our top 6 is insane.
Ghule also helps Toronto a lot on their TOP 4 + Gallagher who will fight every night and a top 5 pick for a good ELC player, which they need.
I think its a win/win

Holtz+Schmid+NJDs next 2 1sts would be what I'd offer approximately in a more realistic offer for both sides.
10th overall for Guhle
2025 1st+Schmid is a slight overpay for Monty imo.
Holtz for Newhook is a slight underpay imo.

Well, I think that you're guaranteed to get one of them because Celebrini, Levshunov and Demidov are almost certain to be three of the first four. Now, if you get Lindstrom at #5, you'll have to go talk to Ron Francis about Iginla . . .

Matheson Guhle
IMO it's very unlikely they keep both beyond next year and right now it's 50/50 on which of the two they decide to move. On the one hand you have Guhle, a big mobile D man that is rarely caught out of position (Weber type but way better skater) on the other hand you have Matheson a big mobile veteran D who puts up massive points. The question is will Hutson and Mailloux put up enough points to alleviate the loss of Matheson or can we find another Guhle type of RD to offset the loss of him. Both will be hard to replace and both will be missed when/if they get moved.

No, he's not, the reason Ottawa got shafted on value was that he had a 9 million dollar QO, refused to sign with Ottawa for term, and gave a VERY short list he would sign longer than his QO, Otyawas hands were tied, and they got a significantly depressed return. Those factors aren't in play with Zegras.

I think Habs management really, really really want Iginla to compete a 2nd line of Roy-Dach -Iginla in 2 years time. Combine that with Caufield-Suzuki-Slafkovsky and that a really strong top 6

This is fair value <strong>IF</strong> Trevor Zegras is on the market, which I doubt. If Anaheim would accept pure futures, this should get it done.

Not even remotely close.
Why are the habs giving up picks when they are giving up multiple good assets AND tak8ng on campbell.
Getting bouchard for eating campbells full hit would be barely worth it and lavoie was waived a few weeks ago
