Note: Reports prior to Sept 2023 were originally graded out of ten, and also included additional categories that have been merged into the current categories.
This likely results in the overall ratings prior to 2023 being decreased in comparison to reports since Sept 2023.

For an `Apples to Apples` comparison between players, we recommend only comparing reports before, or after, Sept 2023.
Results will average out accordingly as more data is accumulated.

Carrier is undersize but he's competitive in the hard areas of the ice. The '2-way D' is in the last year of his contract. His cap hit is $2.5M. Through 57 games he's averaged 18:26 TOI. His ice time breaks down as follows: 15:45 ES - 0:26 PP - 2:14 PK He's been credited with 52 hits and 114 shot blocks. Shot blocking is an asset when killing penalties. He's quick to space and his read/react game is generally sound. An interesting name to keep an eye on at trade deadline. Also provides some secondary offense (4G-15AFeb. 22, 2024Mar. 5, 2024

P3
The Preds and Barrie are on a collision course for a divorce. Barrie would like a change of scenery, especially since he has been a consistent healthy scratch in Nashville. Barrie is a veteran - '2-way / Transitional' defenceman who can quarterback a PP unit. He's an average defender who plays the game with a minimal amount of physical push back. Best described as an 'area' defender. When his 'routes' are off, in his zone, he has a difficult time containing his check to the perimeter. Barrie has played 35 games for Nashville in 23/24 He's averaged 18:26 TOI - with 99% of his ice time coming at even strength and PP - he rarely sees time on the PK 1G - 11A and (-10) defensively. Leans bottom pairing at even strength. Distributor on the PP. Cap hit = $4.5M Expiring deal - pending UFAFeb. 22, 2024Mar. 5, 2024

After suffering through some ups and downs, earlier in the season, he's back playing to the best of his ability Workhorse. Has appeared in 49 games as of March 5th His last five starts - from February 22nd - March 2nd - he posted outstanding numbers - 1.20 GAA / .955 save percentage Butterfly athletic goalie. Competes to keep pucks out of the net. At times he gets outside his posts and has to travel a long way back to regain his crease - making him smaller in the net in the process Great feet. Good low net coverage for his stature. One more year left on a contract that pays $5.0 million but doesn't have trade protection. Many high end years ahead. Only 28 years young. #1A NHL starter.Feb. 22, 2024Mar. 5, 2024

Report updated March 5th - 2024 The Calgary Flames MVP so far in 23/24. Huge bounce back season compared to last. At the 39 game mark he had posted a 2.61 GAA and .912 save percentage. Signed through 25/26 to a contract that counts $6.0M against the cap. Full 'no move clause' There are nights he gives up goal he would like to have back … but he has proven, this year, that he digs in to make the next save and beyond. If he goes to market, he is the top goalie target for this deadline cycle. 33 years young but a #1A puck stopper.Feb. 19, 2024Mar. 5, 2024

There are instances he could dial it back a bit and not get involved in every scrum - during the play and after the whistle - but it's part of his DNA and what makes him such a valuable young leader. When called upon he wins 54% of his draws Hard to defend along the wall and out front the net - especially on the PP -Feb. 27, 2024Mar. 4, 2024

Chychrun has contributed offensively for the Senators. He produced 9G-22A in his first 59GP Continues to average north of 23 minutes per game TOI. All of his ice time comes at even strength and the power-play. Defensive detail ranges - his (-15) rating is the worst of any defenceman on the Sens roster. There are times, in games, he has difficulty timing his gaps and keeping opponents outside the dots in his zone. Best described as a '2-way D' who isn't shy about directing pucks on net in the offensive zone. He's been credited with 145 shots on goal and contributes offense on the power-play (4G-8A) Plenty strong - 50 hits - 107 shot blocks Excellent skater One more year on his current contract that's armed with a 10 team no trade clause. Arguably the Senators MVP this season - certainly their most consistent defenceman on a nightly basis. Logs around 21:00 TOI per game. All of his ice time comes at ES and the PK. Matches up versus top forward groups every shift. Tied for the team lead, on defense, with 20 even strength points although he missed time with injury and had only played 46 games as of March 3rd. 97 hits - 80 shot blocks and a (+10) defensively Moves well - thinks the game - competes every night - reliable Signed to a great contract - $4.6M AAV through 26/27 season.Feb. 27, 2024Mar. 4, 2024

Tarasenko, arguably, has been one of the Senators forwards who has generally played to his identity and strengths this season. He's a pending UFA who carries a cap hit of $5M His contract is armed with a full no move clause - meaning he can chose his destination at the trade deadline Continues to average 16 minutes per game TOI - deployed at even strength and the power-play. Through 57GP he contributed 17G - 24A 15G - 18A at even strength. Generally responsible defensively - certainly average at worst - a (+13) on the season Pace remains NHL caliber. Still enough game to play in top six if required Clearly not done producing offense. Could add a secondary layer for a contending team.Feb. 27, 2024Mar. 4, 2024
Dominik KubalikLogo of the Ottawa SenatorsLW284 of 4

Kubalik is a pending UFA. His contract carries a cap hit of $2.5M. He's a shell of the player he once was offensively and he brings very little attention to detail defensively. In his first 55 games, this season, he contributed 9G-4A He averages 12:30 TOI at even strength and the power play. A team looking to take on the risk of acquiring Kubalik is banking on him contributing more offense than he has - especially on the power-play. Shooter more than distributor - but only credited with 68 shots on goal - also doesn't play with much push back physically - only credited with 38 hits and 15 shot blocks Risk/Reward acquisition.Feb. 27, 2024Mar. 4, 2024

Has only played five games since December 27th. Mixed results overall ... but last two games (Feb 17 / 25th) were both solid starts ... two wins ... one via shutout vs Calgary ... stopped 72 of 74 shots he faced Veteran back-up at this stage of his career Butterfly style. Mid-range athleticism. There are times he makes himself 'small' when fronting the shooter and dropping / leans forward or sits 'down' in the butterfly - exposes room over his shoulders. Still has enough game to steal some points for his team on occasion. Expiring contract. Pending UFA. 35 years old. Ty Henry-LD172 of 2

P3
NOTE: Updated height and weight = 6'3 1/4 200lbs Ty has to be watched closely to be appreciated. He does a lot of subtle things very well. Small area plays that contribute to defensive zone exits, killing plays when gapping up and fronting shooters to block shots. Good size. Plenty strong. Pushes back in the hard areas. Solid skater - especially on straight lines - up and down the ice. Good edges. Pivots and generally maintains his pace. There are times, occasionally, that Ty could push harder out of the blocks - exiting offensive zone from a dead stop / skating backwards ... and jumping from net front / corner to position himself quicker defensively. Despite the fact he doesn't produce a lot of offense, he is capable with the puck. Ty can move the play from his zone / launch the attack via outlets. When things break down he chips pucks to neutral ice. On occasion he walks the offensive blue line and directs pucks on net from range ... looks capable of doing it more often in fact. Hockey sense / skating / compete are all in place. Leans 'Defensive D' but could trend 2-way / Defensive D as he maturesFeb. 25, 2024Mar. 1, 2024

Bobrovsky ran hot in playoffs, last spring, for the Panthers and he's continued his stellar play in to this season. Through 42GP he posted a 2.36 GAA and .916 save percentage. Athletic. Great feet. His average TOI = 21:11 - 16:27 ES - 3:45 PP - 0:56 PK Through the first 54GP he's produced 19G - 33A - 52PTS - (-12) 11 goals at even strength - 8 goals on the PP - 15 even strength assists - 18 PP assists Wins 53% of his draws Matches up against top opponents every night. No easy shifts. Only 123 shots on goal. More of a distributor than shooter generally. Mid-range bump to his game. Absorbs contact. Works to extend plays. Smart in all three zones. Solid skater. Not a pure #1 center. A high end #2 when the Canadiens turn the corner as a group and become a playoff team. Leads by example.Feb. 15, 2024Feb. 17, 2024

Captain of Team USA's USNTDP U18 team. Infectious approach. Plays the game fast. Creates offense at even strength and on the power-play. Equal parts shooter / distributor. Strong core / foundation. Adequate battle. Has the hockey sense to be used in a variety of roles but his element is on display at ES and especially the power-play. Quick stick. Sees the ice.Feb. 7, 2024Feb. 11, 2024

Plays with a presence. Good size. Pushes back physically. Easily identified - a 'shut down / defensive defenceman' who takes a regular shift at even strength and on the penalty kill. No frills with the puck. Sees what's available and moves the play out of danger from his zone via outlets or chips to open ice. Skating is average and will have to go to another level for the NHL game. Recognizes what he is and doesn't stray from his skill set.Feb. 10, 2024Feb. 11, 2024

Undersize offensive talent who does his best work on the power-play. Rips pucks from the weak side flank. Never shy about trying to direct the play on net. Crafty in small areas. Thinks the game offensively. Doesn't PK. Impact at even strength ranges at times. Element is offense - goal scoring - play making Power play specialist (?Feb. 10, 2024Feb. 11, 2024

Transitional 'D' Bulk of his ice time comes at even strength and the power-play. Quarterbacks one of the PP units for Sweden's national U18 team. Beautiful skater. Great jump. On his toes all the time - exploding to take away space or pounce on a puck / outlet / and join the rush offensively. Average plus defender. Not overly physical. Elite elements are pace and puck moving. Needs to be paired with a 'stay at home' / more physical 'D' partner.Feb. 10, 2024Feb. 11, 2024

One of the top prospects for the 2025 NHL Entry Draft Could challenge for top draft slot. Good size. Moves well. Extends plays with his reach and compete in the hard areas. Shields pucks effectively. Creates off the rush. Displays a absolute 'rocket' from the weak side flank on power-play. Elite shooter. Wastes no time getting pucks on net. Combination of compete and skill is noteworthy. Highly motivated offensive threat every time he hits the ice.Feb. 10, 2024Feb. 11, 2024

Pettersson brings more to his team than just offense. His role with Team Sweden's National team finds him land in all situations. Responsible defensively. Rotates very well on the PK. Gets in shooting lanes. Jumps to the perimeter to disrupt opponents. Offensively he's best described as equal parts distributor and shooter. Strong pace off the rush. Creative thinker. Involved every shift. Jack of all trades.Feb. 10, 2024Feb. 11, 2024

A big, strong, physical presence. Defensive 'D' who doesn't project to provide offense. Very simple with the puck. Almost never joins the rush offensively. His job is to assist with keeping the puck out of his net - plain and simple Generally hard to play against. Average skater who needs to find another gear - especially in small areas.Feb. 10, 2024Feb. 11, 2024

Mid-size '2-way / Transitional D' Excellent skater. Ability to escape pressure in his defensive zone and lead the rush on his own. Average plus defender with adequate push back physically. Power-Play Quarterback / leans distributor more than shooter. There are times he needs to identify his options more quickly and move pucks - to avoid pressure and turnovers. Not elite offensively but certainly capable. Could end up more defined as a 2-way D who gets places ahead of opponents / moves pucks / joins as an extra layer offensively / provides secondary offense. Feb. 10, 2024Feb. 11, 2024

Continues to play to his identity as a goal scorer - but working to make more plays and check better defensively. Has a long way to go with his detail off the puck / identifying who his check is and how to lock into a defensive mindset. Playing with more and more quickness. Making plays from below the goal line to his line mates. Elite element is his shot - and will always be his ability to score goals - especially off the weak side flank on the power-play. Work in progress outside of his natural element.Feb. 10, 2024Feb. 11, 2024

A bit of a throwback style. Power forward. Hard to play against in the trenches - along the boards and out front the net. Extends plays by using his frame as an advantage / pushing opponents of the puck. Empties the tank every shift. Average skater. Average skill. No frills Easily identified. Struggles to find a role on any special teams at the USNTDP - but has the kind of skill set that could be used as a net front presence on the PPFeb. 10, 2024Feb. 11, 2024

There's a ton to like about Skahan's game. He's big. He skates well. He takes away time and space in the defensive zone. He's willing to body up and make life difficult on opponents. Puck play ranges. Executing / making plays has - at times - been inconsistent. Leans 2-way 'D' - potentially shut down 'D' as he establishes himself. Primary ice time comes at even strength and penalty kill at the USNTDP. Not likely to produce much offense.Feb. 10, 2024Feb. 11, 2024

Plays on the top line at the USNTDP - his off-side / right wing Motion player. Plays fast. Has the pace to make opponents back off and give up their blue line when he's on the attack. Understated puck touch and vision. Sees the ice in the offensive zone and moves pucks quickly and efficiently - especially on the PP. Leans distributor more than shooter.
