Note: Reports prior to Sept 2023 were originally graded out of ten, and also included additional categories that have been merged into the current categories.
This likely results in the overall ratings prior to 2023 being decreased in comparison to reports since Sept 2023.

For an `Apples to Apples` comparison between players, we recommend only comparing reports before, or after, Sept 2023.
Results will average out accordingly as more data is accumulated.

2-way forward who, at times, appears capable of producing more offense than his yearly stats display. Good pace. Has some bump to his game. Willing to push back along the wall and around the crease. Hockey sense to be deployed in all situations. Best described as an above average 2-way forward who provides better than secondary offense. At times streaky offensively. 80GP - 19G - 21A (+4) Averaged 17:00 TOI - Deployed in all situations. 183 shots on goal 108 hits - 48 shot blocks Expiring contract that counted $4.0M against the cap in 23/24May 2, 2024May 4, 2024

Swayman continues to platoon with Ullmark in Boston - BUT - heading into series versus Toronto in first round of 2024 playoffs he has a save percentage north of .950 and GAA below 1.40 versus the Leafs. He could be the goalie of choice in versus the Leafs. Boston has a very structured penalty killing unit. They ended the regular season with one of the top units in the entire league - killing off an average of 82.5% when a man short. Swayman's last ten game segment produced .904 save percentage - 2.50 GAA He faced, on average, 26.1 shots on goal per game. Good size. Athletic. Quick pads. Competes to make second saves. Engaged. Reliable. Apr. 16, 2024Apr. 19, 2024

ML
Bavaro has signed a one-year entry level contract with the Boston Bruins. He's a big, right-shot, defenceman who was used in all situations at the college level with Notre Dame. In 35GP (23/24 season) he produced 10G-10A. It was a breakout year for him offensively. He logged over 20 minutes per game. Bavaro handles the puck well. He distributes responsibly, and joins the rush as an extra layer offensively on occasion. Defensively he displays sound 'spatial awareness'. In order to find a role at the NHL level he will have to react / jump to space quicker on the perimeter to kill plays - especially on the PK. Leans 2-way 'D' who has the size, sense, and compete for an NHL bottom pairing / recall role in time.Mar. 9, 2024Mar. 23, 2024

One of the most obvious Blue Jacket players who looks like, both he and the team, could benefit from a change of scenery. In his most recent 10 game segment (January-February 2024) he averaged between 11:00 - 19:00 TOI. His primary ice time comes at even strength and the penalty kill. Good size and range. Gets in the shooting lane to block shots and has some physical push back. Limited offensively. Third pairing 'D'. Credited with 2 assists - 16 hits - 20 shot blocks in the segment. Overall, only 20GP on the season - average TOI 15:40 - and a (-4) defensively. Signed through 25/26 season. Cap hit $2.75M. 2-way / Leaning defensive 'D'. Feb. 20, 2024Feb. 23, 2024

Closes his gaps. Willing to push back / play with some jam. Doesn't bring much offensively. Overall detail ranges some nights. His contain game / read and react can be somewhat unpredictable. L4
Veteran fourth line winger who plays a heavy / power style Averages around 13:00 TOI - deployed at even strength and second unit power-play Best work comes from the hash marks down in the offensive zone and working off the cycle Difficult to defend net front in the offensive zone. Good mitts. Extends plays. Through his first 49GP - he scored 4G-12A - secondary scorer who does the majority of his scoring at even strength - only one assist on the PP Pace is barely adequate for speed of NHL game. Tracking back / late offensive zone exits can be a challenge. Expiring contract that carries an $800K AAV - carries a 16 team no trade listJan. 27, 2024Feb. 6, 2024

Suffered a lower body injury in his 21st game of the year (20th start) vs Arizona At the time he had posted a .915 save percentage and 2.75 GAA His save percentage was top five for goalies with over twenty starts. Big body. Not overly active. Allows the puck to come to him. Plays between his posts. Fronts the play. Squares up. Sits tall in his butterfly. Hard to beat in tight due to stature. Less = more. Not the kind of goaltender that is at his best when scrambling to make stops.Jan. 11, 2024Jan. 13, 2024

Swayman generally splits the net with partner Linus Ullmark. Through his first 22GP, Swayman posted .920 save percentage and 2.47GAA His save percentage is top five for goalies who have played more than twenty games. Good size. Athletic. Quick feet. Good gloves. At times active in his crease, but his athletic ability takes over and allows him to recover effectively. Read / React is sound. Strong focus. Always in the game. Has struggled to find a slot in the CBJ lineup. '2-way / Leaning Defensive D' At this stage he's an in / out 7D / 6D for the Blue Jackets Good size. Right shot. Moves well. Adequate puck mover. Not flash to his game offensively. Bodies up. Willing to close on opponents and block shots. Comes down to timing his reads and reacting accordingly. There are nights his routes are off and he struggles to defend the middle of his zone consistently. Change of scenery might be good for the player and organization. Off to another strong start in 23/24 Splitting time with Swayman Through his first seven starts he has posted a 2.26 GAA and .926 save % Continues to play 'big in the net' No unnecessary movement. Good feet / but doesn't possess outstanding agility. Relies heavily on making first saves, and directing pucks out of danger or limiting second chances. Not a great scrambler. Composed. Focused. Dialed in. Monitor his fatigue factor as the season rolls along. Is he capable of more than 50% of the games?Nov. 9, 2023Nov. 11, 2023
Jeremy SwaymanLogo of the Boston BruinsG242 of 4

His game appears to be trending towards #1A starter ... but ... the Bruins are fortunate that they can play both their goalies and trust their game and results. Swayman, predictably, is splitting time with Linus Ullmark to start the season. In his first 6 starts he has a 6-0 record, a 1.49 GAA - .952 save % - and one shutout Swayman continues to play with sound crease composure and rarely gets too active in his crease. One of his biggest strengths is his read / react game and the fact he plays between his post - which makes him big in the net. On pace for 41 games ... trending like a goalie who could play 55 (+) if required. Boston plays a structured team game, but having a steady, composed, netminder like Swayman makes everyone better defensively.Nov. 9, 2023Nov. 11, 2023

Recently signed by the Bruins to his entry-level contract. 7th round pick in 2022 (200th overall) His added more strength to his frame. Projects as a '2-way D' / ES / PK as a pro. Solid skater. Better than average puck skill. Provides second layer of scoring at the OHL level with the London Knights. Majority of his TOI comes at ES and PK. Some PP. Competes and pushes back physically. Opponents need to be aware of Jackson closing the gap in the neutral or finishing his checks down low in his zone. Understated edge to his game. Oct. 27, 2023Oct. 31, 2023

Young, developing, skill forward with junior eligibility Earned a roster spot with the Bruins after a superb training camp in (23/24) Excellent skater. Fantastic vision and puck touch. Leans play maker more than shooter. Can be dangerous on the PP. Has the ability to almost QB a PP unit from the half wall / rotating up top in the zone. Makes plays through seems. Has to be respected off the rush. Defensive detail ranges at times but he has improved his three zone game a great deal over the last year of his development. Leans 2F. Lysell stood out for the Bruins in Buffalo at the Prospects Showcase He played quick and fast. Up ice, tracking the play at ES and on the PK, he created turnovers that led to scoring chances. Off the rush he also used his speed to back opponents off their blue lines. He isn't a heavy player but he plays fast and showed he has the ability to get places before opponents and let his skill takeover from there. More playmaker than shooter.Sep. 16, 2022Sep. 27, 2022

Despite leading the Bruins in scoring at the Prospects Challenge in Buffalo, Beecher went through long stretches of barely average effort and detail. His best shift showed speed and tenacity. He scored from around the crease. He battled along the wall. But he didn't play to the identity every time he hit the ice. In fact, he looked moody at times and lacked the three zone detail required for the NHL game. He has the size, speed, and push back to be an NHL player. It was a struggle to start the season, at the Buffalo Sabres Prospect Challenge, for Dyck His areas of weakness were exposed by the more seasoned young pros Too active in his crease. He gave up far too many second chances off his active pads. Tracking the play and squaring up was also an issue. There is much to like about his upside. He's big, athletic, and quick. Finishes his year with a bit of an up and down week at the U18 Worlds representing Canada A trend has developed with Reid's game. A butterfly goalie with decent gloves. He does have habit of back handing pucks which lead to some bobbles at times. He moves side to side fluidly. At times he shows he has the ability to steal a game. Other times he seems to lose his focus and allow a poor goal at the wrong time. For today's NHL he has the frame and mechanics to be an NHL goalie but his consistency will have to improve.Apr. 23, 2022Jul. 1, 2022

On a deep American U18 Team Cole provided a secondary layer of offense Considering he was used in a limited role on the PP and deployed mostly at ES his stats for the year are above average. Skates fine. Has reliable IQ and overall compete. He doesn't move the needle as an elite high end prospect but there is a reliability to his game that should make teams consider him later in the 2022 draft. 2-way forward who leans offense. Competes but not overly physical.Apr. 23, 2022May 3, 2022

His element is his potential to create offense He's creative with the puck on his stick. He makes plays. Especially on the PP. More strength required. Needs to find an extra gear. Tracking back and in his zone he leaves much to be desired. His overall attention to detail and battle can be frustrating at times. If he goes to another level with his compete and detail his offensive element becomes even more attractive.Apr. 3, 2022Apr. 8, 2022

The top goalie at The Prospects Game. Time will tell if his performance translates. Lateral push was excellent. Tracked the play in front of him and below the goal line. Side to side he made some outstanding pad saves. Displayed quick reflexes. A 3 stop sequence (2 pad stops followed by a glove save) showed he can make a series of reaction saves and catch pucks clean. Good size. A butterfly goalie who has some (athletic) and (hybrid) in his style.Feb. 2, 2022Mar. 25, 2022

AVG TOI (16:56) Being used primarily at ES and on the PP. His role in NJ ranges. Some nights he does see time on the PK. Averaging (0.76) ppg. On the PP he leads zone entries via neutral zone drop pass. Once in the offensive zone he is most comfortable on the right flank as a shooter / distributor. Big body. Skates very well. Not a heavy player. Active stick more than physical contact. Opponents have to respect his speed through the neutral zone. His off the puck detail and read/reacts in his zone have room for improvement. He can leave you wanting some nights.Mar. 8, 2022Mar. 11, 2022

Good size south paw Older junior college goalie who is having his best year to date Average playing the puck. Average gloves. Low net coverage ranges. Crease composure can improve When tracking pucks laterally he has habit of extending beyond his crease to challenge which leads to being caught too far out of position to make initial stops and at times second stops Gives his team a chance to win at this level. Big body defender who moves very well and has the ability to lead the rush and transition pucks on his own Used RS and PP. Does not PK at the college level. QB on the PP as a distributor more than a shooter Shields pucks very well under pressure and shows ability to escape Capable defender but not a player who can be relied upon to shut down top opponents Some risky decisions down low in his zone when he tries to get too creative but not a huge concern as the rest of his game outweighs his mistakes Solid prospect with NHL upsideDec. 3, 2021Jan. 4, 2022

Is starting to round back into form after missing substantial time with injury recovery. Big. Strong, Competes and plays pretty quick and fast. Solid in the face off circle. The kind of player the coach can roll over the boards in defensive zone starts. Not naturally gifted with the puck on his stick. His playmaking generally comes off hard work and extending plays with his energy and physicality RS and PK at Michigan.Nov. 27, 2021Jan. 2, 2022

Character player. Competes. Not shy. Finishes his checks. Leans on opponents. Pressures pucks and creates turnovers. More than willing to get his nose dirty and stir the pot along the wall and in the hard areas. His battle leads to chances in traffic in the offensive zone. 2-way player who brings a mix of tenacity and skill. Valuable prospect with above average skill across the board.Oct. 30, 2021Jan. 1, 2022
