<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Haymaker26</b></div><div>I actually thought Poulin looked good during his stint in the NHL. We played with a 4th line of Gruden-Poulin-Puljujarvi for all of one game and it looked like the injection of speed, grit, and youth that we'd been missing, and then we never saw it again. I think Yager gets his 9 games, and maybe stick around if he does well in them. Koivunen was a top Liiga scorer as well, and could make the team as well.
Between Stephenson, Lindholm, and Roslovic, I'd take Ross. I think both Stephenson and Lindholm would ask for a longer term deal, wheras Roslovic would be the most likely to take less term. In 2-3 years, one of Yager, Poulin, or Ponomarev should be a middle 6 C, and we don't need a longer-term veteran in their way.
On the back end, Dillon or Ekman-Larsson are decent bets on a short term deal to see if they can keep up their defensive play from this season. Winnipeg's defensive collapse vs the Avs makes me lean towards betting on OEL keeping up his renaissance for a couple more years, but there still is the risk that it was a product of Florida's system being excellent.</div></div>
Thats an interesting take and one I should maybe consider with Poulin as well with the talent he was playing with... I think that is fair. I did think about Koivunen but Id like to see him in AHL for a little longer maybe half a season? Plus with new changes in AHL system coming might do some help but OEL would look pretty sweet in a Pens jersey

I'm not saying you made any bad moves at all - I just think the team could use a little more help. Which you obviously have the cap space for. This could be a solid team as is - I just think if you have the money to make it better, which you do, might as well go for it. It doesn't necessarily have to be LD, I was just throwing out some possibilities</div></div>
I think Grzelyck or Skjei would be solid options to short term deals may have a bit higher $ but with 11 million yeah agree

Turcotte's Qualifying Offer is $874,125, so the Kings will tender him $900,000 and he'll be happy to take it. His is the sort of minimum-level contract that Haymaker points out the Kings need.</div></div>
Now if not him... What is the vibe around Akil Thomas? Just curious

I think I'd spend on a 2LD, another forward, or add to Debrusks money and go after Guentzel/Reinhart</div></div>
Who is another LD to spend $$ on!

No updates from LAK Matt Roy and Viktor Arvidsson on contract extensions.
Minimal or no conversations with their agents and team management so far.
Roy would love to return but understands team cap situation.
Arvidsson said injuries prevented any talks.
This was just posted on twitter.

That means a big raise for Byfield, replacements/re-signings for Arvidsson and Roy, and figuring out their goaltending again. How much space are they going to be left with for giving Turcotte over $1M if he's not even become an NHL regular? I agree that I think they'll find a way, but I could see teams trying to take a swing at him and see if they can't nickel and dime Turcotte out of LA.</div></div>

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Haymaker26</b></div><div>The ideas here aren't bad, but I'd like to see a little more oomph, so to speak. I agree with you that the bottom 6 is boom or bust, and I'd like a little more certainty there. I'd also want to take a shot at an upgrade to the LHD. POJ looked better when the team got hot down the stretch and I think Valimaki is underrated, but we have the cap space here to improve the roster. Why not bring in a 3C or 2LD on a short term deal?</div></div>
I deleted some ideas I had I thought maybe Kylington as a guy to bring in. I also debated the idea of Chandler Stevenson but that is also why I left some cap space maybe comes via a trade another idea debated for the bottom 6 Lindholm or Roslovic. I think Pens will give Ponomarev a chance I don't think Poulin makes team I think he is not NHL caliber. Any other ideas to bottom 6?

Oh it wouldnt shock me if they did I wrote that Turcotte I am not sure if LA has given up on him? In this scenario Turcotte is not RFA'd by LA and Pens sign him cheap hoping to turn him into player he was projected to be. Idk though maybe LA signs him or doesn't want to get rid of him for nothing but wasn't sure his value." Maybe this comes with trade? I don't know either was just an idea.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TJTwolf</b></div><div>You'd need to retain more for the Avs to have an interest there I reckon and that's unlikely to happen for that length of time. Also, what makes you think he'd fair better behind Colorado's D? They don't actually have one if the last few weeks have been anything to go by!!!</div></div>
Well personally you have the best defenceman in the NHL with Makar Toews is solid, I dont know your thoughts on Girard and Mason but thats a good top 4. If you compare it to the Penguins you have Karlsson, Letang, Petterson, and Joseph. Karlsson is a liability on D, Letang is great and then other times really bad, Joseph is very inexperienced, Petterson is a solid top dman. I just think with the Avs structure and stability he'd fair better. I agree that if its more it be tough to retain more salary on that type of term but the Pens will likely start Ned for his 13th straight game I think Jarry's writing is on the wall. You could up it to 1-1.8 million but then the Pens will have to shed salary. If it is between trading Jarry and Graves and retaining salary... I think Pens opt to trade Graves but didn't think value was off maybe just $ retained.

figured Dallas makes that move at the deadline 2023-2024 season adds some depth if they think they can go all the way. Figured adds to their already good PK and Eller can produce bottom 6 scoring I think better then Steel. More responsible defensively and has won a stanley cup. That veteran presence could serve nicely for Dallas and Faska has been meh IMO

Oh I 100 agree. I think resigning him is ass but it wouldn't shock me. Penguins like their older Defencemen we have seen that time and time again since all of our younger guys we had are gone. Some of those champions teams grizzled veterans on the D side. But I think Rutta should leave and Kulikov I just don't know what the value is set at Rutta and who you bring in if you also want to improve bottom 6. So many holes.

Alright lets look at this scenario sign Domi and Anthansiou and build a better bottom 6 but now no cap space and handcuff ourselves. Is this realistic? Frick who knows but fun ideas. I think that offence would be good enough to deal with a shakier D core.

I wouldn't mind Domi. I think that adds some grit as well to the bottom 6 along with scoring ability that I do not think that the others bring. I don't really think O'Reilly makes sense if we are already the oldest team why get older? I like Athanasiou and his speed he brings as well. Depends on price to who knows what these guys do for? I think Compher IMO gets more $$ then Domi

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JSEB93</b></div><div>Realistically they are stuck with Granlund I agree - although the buyout is 100% the right move. Jarry isn't staying for a 1 year deal and a pay cut. He has nothing to prove. I like Blueger, but they got rid of him for a reason. If they're going to re-sign him there's no way it's for more money.
I would say the top 6 is slightly worse, bottom 6 maybe slightly better. Defense maybe slightly better, but if POJ has to play his off side on the second pair then I would say about even. Goaltending is obviously the same. Overall I don't think it's enough for this team finish much better.</div></div>
Which I do not disagree with you... on the Granlund part especially. I do think Jarry does have something to prove. I think he hasn't proven he can stay healthy he has been inconsistent. Hasn't won in playoffs and in 8 games has a 891 save %. Wait am I talking myself out of Jarry right now? lol.
Blueger maybe you pay him less but I think it was a mistake to let him go.
Personally the finishing better part...
Do we expect the Penguins to be nothing more if they make playoffs but a wild card team? I don't think they could finish top 3 in the Metro and with making these teams I feel like any move to try to get them into the top 3 is unrealistic in my opinion! But I like your thoughts. Thoughts more on bottom 6 additions?

Ight bet. What would you do? I thought Markstrom just at less salary 3 years had some playoff experience less of a load for him maybe plays a bit better. Just looking for established goalie I guess? Just spitballing would love to here what you would do. Stick with Desmith? Go somewhere else? You tell me!
