They also insisted on Suzuki over Glass too, AWFUL
Who knows what would of happened if they traded Glass instead, probably don't trade for Eichel

(CGY/FLA) - Tkachuk for Huberdeau, Weegar, Schwindt
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ship</b></div><div>hard disagree that at the time it was an easy calgary win. Tkachuk had a game that easily translated to other teams. And with both Weegar and Huberdeau expiring soon, the value of those players was not what it would be had they been locked up. Tkachuk extension being part of the deal helped tip this towards florida. I guess with Tkachuk not wanting to resign in CGY, you could say CGY did a good job to maximize their value in picking up two pieces who would resign as well as a first, but whoever gets the better player in the deal tends to win.</div></div>
Tkachuk not wanting to sign in Calgary and only for a few teams limited them. And getting a 100 point scorer, a top 4 dman and a 1st was amazing for the Flames. In terms of value you take that everyday of the week. At first many including myself thought Calgary came on top, but after the intial shock wore down I understood Florida perspective:
Hubby was older and due for a raise so was Weegs, that 1st was a few years away and is most likely going to be very late. They were most likely going to lose one of them anyway. Calgary mistake came from giving them those extensions and signing Kadri and dumping Monahan. In an alternate time line Calgary trades Hubby and Weegs for:
1st
Top prospect/good roster player with cap
Mid round pick/prospect/player with cap

(CGY/VAN) - Lindholm for Kuzmenko, Brzustewicz, Jurmo, 2024 1st (VAN), 2024 4th (VAN)
This has to be the definition of: "We're not paying for this guy to be impactful in the RS, we only care about the playoffs"
This guys' been great for Vancouver! 7 points in 9 playoff games, 5 of which were goals, as the team's shutdown centre

Every year, playoff teams give away futures for a playoff run. 15 teams will be disappointed, wasting their futures, and just one the Cup winners will have "won" the TDL trades</div></div>
Depends. If you get a guy with term for a couple runs you can win a deadline deal.

(CGY/PHI/VGK) - Hanifin for for Miromanov, 2024 5th (VGK), 2025 1st (VGK), 2025 3rd (VGK)
Now that the season's over for all three teams, I think the Flyers are the only ones who didn't win this trade.
Noah Hanifin played better than most Vegas players, even if his defensive numbers were weak.
Calgary got a 1st, a 3rd, and a warm body, which is better average for a rental.
Flyers for just a 5th for $2.5 million in cap space. Should have gotten more.

(NSH/TBL) - Jeannot for Foote, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TheWolfe</b></div><div>Pretty safe to say Brisebois has buyers remorse on this deal. That many picks for a bottom 6 winger with less than 40 points over THREE seasons is an oof.</div></div>
Just to add. Playoff contenders trade away picks for a long playoff run. End of the playoff.....15 teams that were buyers get no value, but only Cup winners do.
For example the Leaf have made so many TDL trades in previous seasons, and still don't have many top picks in the 24, 25, 26 drafts...for what, one playoff round win.

(NSH/TBL) - Jeannot for Foote, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th
I just checked...
Cal Foote scored 1 goal and added 3 assists while being a +3 in 24 games with Nashville.
Jeannot scored 1 goal and added 3 assists while being a -8 in 23 games with Tampa Bay, including playoffs.
If it were a 1 for 1 trade, it would be even right now.
Nashville getting a player and 5 draft picks in criminal.

(WSH/TOR) - Edmundson for 2024 3rd (NYI), 2025 5th (CHI)
The trouble with TDL deals, the only "buyers" that are winners are the Cup Champs and maybe the other Conference finalists
Did buyers who didn't make the playoffs benefit? No
Did the eight teams that lost in the first round benefit. No.
Did the four teams that lost in the second round benefit. I would say no
Did the two teams that lost in the third round benefit. I would say no
Did the two teams two that played in the Cup final. Yes.
Maybe I'm just jaded. But the Leafs traded away so many futures.....1st, 2nd and 3rd, 4th round picks for one playoff round victory in 2023
Plus the Leafs don't have any picks in the first four round in 2025
Plus the Leafs are don't have all their picks in 2026.
Terrible asset management by Dubas especially. Trevling, and Lou. I won't even mention the three worse GMs this century, Nonis, Burke and Ferguson.

(WSH/CAR) - Kuznetsov for 2025 3rd (CAR)
I figured people would actually know hockey on this site. I guess not.
This is what we call poaching.
Playoff #'s:
Kuznetsov: 5GP, 2G, 2A, 4 Points, +2 - Carolina paid a 2025 3rd round pick. Carolina also gets Kuznetsov for ALL of next year, playoffs included, at half of his salary.
Carolina is moving on to the 2nd Round of the Playoffs, so he's probably going to add to these numbers.
Winnipeg, and people defending adding Monahan.
Playoff #'s:
Monahan: 5GP, 0G, 1A, 1 Point, -1 - Winnipeg paid a 2024 1st round pick, and had conditions on a 2027 3rd round pick (Montreal would get this 3rd round pick if Winnipeg won the 2024 Stanley Cup).
I think most people knew that these conditions would not be met.
Winnipeg is now out of the Playoffs and Monahan is a pending Free Agent.
What is your definition of a rental?
Do people just look at a stat line during the year and have an opinion based on that?
Maybe you should take into consideration the factors contributing to a situation. Maybe some people should spend more time watching hockey and less time on CapFriendly.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Saskleaf</b></div><div>Berube to Toronto?!?!
I did call it lol. I’m happy with that hire, I think he’s a great fit for the leafs. My only concern is that the team is going to think he’s too harsh or something and want to quit on him. But at this point I hope they’re beyond that</div></div>
I think you’ll be be pleasantly surprised.
IMO he’s a huge players coach.
He does adjust opportunity based on effort, but I never saw him like pick on somebody, repeatedly punish anybody. Kyrou was the most “in his doghouse” which meant his icetime went down for a game. Then you’d see a social media post where he’s working with Kyrou at practice, and that was it.
I think the main benefit of him as a coach is that he keeps it very simple. Offense and defense can be advanced and complex - that’s on those coaches - but from the team perspective he seems to be able to compress things down to simple terms. Probably a major benefit of being an ex player.
There were great times while he was the head coach and there were awful times, and in both extremes, and the middle, he was very chill, very direct and simple. He’s an easy guy to root for and it’s seemed players really responded to him. I mean we won a cup so it did happen at least for some amount of time.

He just fit the system Brad wants this team to play and him not being afraid to calling out the big players for underperformances is just what the doctor ordered.

You certainly don't understand the structure of these leagues

Yes. This is 100% what is occurring. The nhl exists to make money not be fair. Cross check the face of the guy responsible for 500,000 eyeballs on tv you’re getting a sussy. McDavid will make the nhl hundreds of millions of dollars during his career. The rules apply differently for those hundred of millions of reasons. This isn’t the Olympics, is private enterprise.
There’s a simple path forward: Don’t break the great players and you’re fine, or find a way you can draw half a million viewers, earn the league hundreds of millions yourself.
