Gallagher contract is a burden. They could but i figured that the Leafs would like to use the cap flexibility that a Marner trade would offer them to adress some need.

Detroit doesn't need a bottom 6 forward. We need a goalie. Husso, although down year, is projected to be our starter next season. We would then have to add another goalie. This deal doesn't make sense for us.

Marner contract in 2025-26 will be even a bigger burden @13M plus. Trading for Marner means you aren't signing one of Dach, Guhle or Slafkovsky.
